I always thought this movie was about a guy who goes around killing aliens who are disguised as humans. But when I saw this video, and seeing the propaganda signs when he wears the glasses, it convinces me that the world he is living in is something out of 1984, where there is a totalitarian rule and those "aliens" are people in the party while common folk are just peasants who aren't intelligent enough to realize this, just like 1984!

ha i grew up watching this fucking movie!!!! From age 6(first seeing it) to now(25) lol. The MAIN thing I remember was the epic fight scene. My mom recorded it on VHS and I remember I would always fastforward(or rewind)to the fight scene...and keep rewinding it. Eventually the tape broke needless to say :-( it wasn't until i was about 13 till i actually WATCHED the whole movie on tv and realised just how great the film was. Felt guilty for all the years I saw it just for the fight scene :-(

I mean, in the actual movie, does it take only 10 minutes for this character to go from discovering the glasses, to seeing the subliminal messages, to seeing the aliens, to (idiotically!) insulting one of them, to getting found out, to being chased, to being cornered by cops, to shooting the cops, and then to taking over a bank? If so, I think Mr. Carpenter still had a bit of a learning curve ahead of him. Still the concept is terrific.

Definitely the best scene in the movie. I was just lucky enough to actually catch the film on TV (heh) today and when I did, it was the very beginning of this scene.

The whole build up was done right. It starts pretty subtle. The whole time he's getting acquainted to the oppressiveness and unrealness of the real world there's no real sound samples: just everyday ambience. As soon as he looks and sees the ghoul, then the music starts and it equates to his awakening to the horrid truth.
