I remember going to the Roller Derby in 1966 when the Bombers came into the old Madison Sqare Garden on 49 st to play the Northwest Cardinals with Bob Hein and Bob Woodberry. Charlie O' chased after Woodberry in the 2nd or 4th period with Woodberry jumping over the railing and breaking his arm. Obviously he did not return. I wonder if he really broke his arm, lol,
I remember Mike Snell playing in 1 season only. It was around 1970. I think he played for the Norheast Braves, although back then only the Bombers played home game in the 60's until 1972 when regional teams came into play. Roller Derbey had their best years in the 50's when they were on in prime time on ABC.l,
This is too fuckin' cool! It's great to see footage of the Pioneers v. Cards along with Bombers v. Braves! It's a crying shame ESPN Classic never shown this film on Reel Classics, preceded by The Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame Jerry Seltzer For Folding The Original Roller Derby - not only would I loved to seen that, I would bought the special DVD covering both programs!
Thanks so much for posting this clip! I'm still a die-hard fan of Roller Derby. I started watching it right before they did this movie. Here's to those good old days!
Thanks for posting this. The documentary Derby is out of print and not available on netflix or amazon. This doc features some of Roller Derby's greatest skaters from the late 60s - early 70s.

The underground legend of sports - roller derby - with no sugar coating whatsoever. I like it this way.
