Just remember this. My Jeep is a "FJ Recovery Vehicle" and yeah my jeep is for the most part stock! For a FJ to get where a stock jeep can go you have to sink money into everything. In other words "you can't fix stupid!"
I love FJ's, I used to sell them. My favorites are the FJ40's. But I have to say I still wouldn't trade my Jeep for one. The visibility when driving it really sucks and you can't take the top off like the old school FJ. Also the body roll is horrible.
It's pretty funny that all the Hummer fans will buy the bottom of the barrell Hummer H3 to try and compete with this Toyota FJ Cruiser. Hummer had to increase the displacement of the H3 last year to compete with the HP of an FJ cruiser, which still doesnt beat it in a straight line or trail. Also the H3 isnt even a true hummer, looks like a GMC Envoy inside. H2? is more a street car than a trails car.
the fj and hummer are two dirrerent cars in the same field, its like how the jaguar xk was designed with a picture of an aston and a piece of tracing paper.
@devinporterfield Oh but it is a copy car. Toyota got their idea for a vehicle of this type from Jeep. That doesn't change the fact that the FJ is a great car though.
I have an 06 H3 and a 76 FJ 40. I've gotten both stuck and broke parts on both. When did wheelin become such a whiney bitch fest. Get what suites you and wheel the shit out of it.
the fj is alright but if you want REAL offroad fun buy a wrangler throw the top back take the doors off and fold the windshield down...now thats fun and the new jk's look better than the fj IMO!
@brandon06wc i cant agree more even though i own an fj i wish i had a wrangler its just so sick what you can do with it i think its gunna be my next suv
You are the douchebag triangle. Even a stock FJ Cruiser will destroy a Hummer off road, not to mention a heavily modded FJ Cruiser...so tired of ignorant fools who don't know a damn thing spouting out garbage like that!
I am not a big Hummer fan, but the H-1 and H-3 alfa would out wheel the FJ any day, the H-3 has not one locker but two real lockers and an optional V-8, The H-3 also has more suspension flex. Again I could dis the Hummers too, The FJ should do something with the limited IFS and include two selectable lockers, then it would be behind the Rubicon still.
i know the h1 could rape the fj..and i own an fj so dont any one think im dissing it , but idk about the h3 ive never tested one off road a wrangler will give it competition but off roading isnt about which is better or nicer looking its about going out there and having fun
the hummers was built to survive hostile offroad conditions, look the bottom of an h1 it is meant to protect all important internals, the tank the motor, the trans even the brakes are slotted next to the rear dif, the pinion on the dif is on the top half to aid in clearance. h1's would have been better if they kept the original Duetz motor. to be on topic fj cruiser looks "cute" but not off road ready as its ancestors.
@MrSalmonhunter the less susceptible to damage the more risks your willing to take, the capability to climb vertical obstacles also helps, im referencing my dislike of new fj's off road worthiness, its not that they are ugly i m fond the portapoty blue color, thats not sarcasm.
Yea they have good power and a good tranny, they are a great vehicle if you want an suv. All I am saying is that they are not what they claim to be, off road was engineering was an afterthought, although I love the rear locker! The suspension is the main downfall here. The suspension may as well be on the Camry.
To be fair I complain about all stock suspensions, amazing for off road? If you say so, Watch an FJ off road and watch how many times the wheels leave the ground, that is not a desirable trait. The only vehicle with great suspension stock will be the Ford F-150 Rapture, now that is a suspension, It's also cheaper to be ignorant on suspensions, A quality suspension can run you $10,000, With metal at $30 dollars a ton why can't they get it right the first time? All the best.
i would agree completly!!! but for guys like me that like rock crawling i wish they would have put the 11 inch travel fox's on the f250!!! im not very interested in a independent suspension (i guess thats why i drive a jeep) but i will say that the toyota has a okay suspension for a stock vehicle with ifs. rti is 500 so i wouldnt say it is poorly designed.
$30 a ton? dude... i scrap steel every day i used to get $135 a ton for steel. thats before recycling and resale to these companies. now im getting $75 a ton with the economy as it is. Where are the $10k suspension setups you speak of? you can get a complete fabtech 6 inch lift kit for around $2500 with shocks and all!
Looks great, too bad it is engineered with such little thought for off road performance. Why would they have such limited wheel travel? It's sad to see these off road, just watch how many times the wheels leave the ground because of poor articulation. I used to love Toyota's.
:03 is my idea of the perfect off road vehicle for what i'd be doing with it. I'm not saying it's better than something with crazy rock-crawler suspension or a huge hummer with lots of money put into it, i'm just saying it's perfect for me.
:08 is my second fav. Not a fan of green, but it still looks sick and would break necks from turning heads.
