  • Beautiful. I've never heard this done by a female- and its wonderful. She is beautiful and was an amazing talent at a very young age.

Looks like my kind of movie.

Wish you hadn't cut off the last notes though.

But thanks for posting this- a keeper.

  • I wish I'd NOT read the comments on this page. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it's a negative one, so why respond with such vulgar and obscene comments, especially from people who are purportedly cultured. Is it necessary to drag every disagreement or contention into the gutter with such crude language? If you can speak with such venom, simply because someone has a different opinion, then humanity is doomed. What a pity YOUR remarks are now associated with this fine singer.

  • @onebaud1 ...I agree with you..I am 74 and starting to ove opera and its singers...we have the time now yes? continue to enjoy...magi

  • @FFSray could you do any better???

  • Comment removed

  • @FFSray Being honest to whom? She has the full support of virtually every Opera House and Music Hall she’s played so far. The Pittsburgh Opera, Carnegie Mellon School of music and The Meyerson Symphony hall in Dallas love Jackie. So do the Japanese. Jackie did a “Command Performance” for the Japanese Royal Family after a sold out 13,000 seat performance the night before.

  • Not bad, but here's the real deal. watch?v=ABdBGyezbOE

  • @bugnutsrunnels that video is shit. this women is clearly better. the real deal btw is a spinto tenor singing this, like pavarotti. the role of calaf was supposed to be a spinto tenor. it's not made for women. none the less is the little girl a pain in my ears.

  • @FFSray your rude, hateful remarks are both a disservice to Deanna Durbin and Jackie Evancho. Shame on you.

Sie sind nur ein kleines Schwein in einer Welt der Erwachsenen

  • Мой любимейший фильм!!! Смотрела его бесчисленное количество раз! И еще столько же посмотрю!

  • She was stunning looking and a voice to match, she was my grandfathers secret love my nan used to tell me :-)

  • Hard to believe she's 90 now!

  • wonderful!

  • very pretty :)

  • OMG! this is completly amazing!

  • She was soooooooo good. Its a damn shame that recording equipment was so poor in those days. Thanks OP for posting this....exquisite.

  • @Agreatgeat-

Go to deanna durbin devotees dot com (one word)

Go down the page to None Shall Sleep Tonight

These are the words she is singing.

  • I cried at her wedding. "Me,“ I kept yelling, "it should be MEEE!" Lucky guy!

  • She was a babe!! Gorgeous!!

  • Amo a artista cantora e também a musica!

  • Fabulous clip, marred by that gigantic DEANNA in the corner.

  • She was considered for Dorthy in "the wizard of of" I would've like to seen, and hear her instead of Garland (no disrespect to Ms. Garland)

  • Whattttt?? I can't make out what she's saying.

@1:17 Was that an emaciated Paul Henreid???

  • @agreatgeat No, that is the actor Franchot Tone.

  • and she alas falls into the arms of that scrawny man.

  • @eldrama2 Which proves, that a man does not need to be muscle bound to be a man. Mahatma Gandhi was a srawny man, but what a great man, to mention but one.

  • @SuperDonna888 what does rice have to do with it?

  • @eldrama2 ''Rice''? hahaha. I didn't say anything about rice!

  • @eldrama2 Back in the day, Franchot Tone was considered a romantic leading man. He certainly didn't have the handsome ruggedness of a Clark Gable, but he was popular. I guess we have to take into consideration who the "leading man" types were at that time...and who was under contract to what studio!

  • I was impressed by this... And then I read that she sings this in English and I hadn't noticed... Now I'm BEYOND impressed.

  • Pure merveille

  • Amazing! Although it is known that some arias or songs intended to be sung either by tenor or by soprano (like some of Rachmaninof's art-songs). Thanks for uploading.

  • Oh my god... this makes me cry every time! So beautiful! And when she runs to him! Ah!!! I cry like a baby!

  • Her Silent Night rendition is incredibly beautiful! This also was breathtaking!

  • GORGEOUS!

  • This is an absolutely wonderful rendition of Nessun Dorma. Deanna is magnificent!

  • This is better than most male renditions I've heard.

  • wow.

  • Child Singers today are far out-distanced by Durbin who was taught how to sing, not the nonsense currently marketed.

  • An adorable doll. Thanks for all the lovely music.

  • Funny thing is back then they shot song LIVE not pre-recorded. Like to see some of the singers / actress' give this a shot now......NOT!

  • Wow!. She's absolutely terrific, I had no idea!!

  • great

  • Dam the recording abilities before -__-!

  • Yes, I agree about beautiful voice, and I'd add a very educated voice too, with a good and solid tecnique. Nevertheless for singing Nessun Dorma beyond "piano", "forte" is necessary too. And above all volume on some notes in order to convey the full prince's conviction. You can't ask volume to the very delicate Deanna's singing. Ths is a Nessun Dorma in miniature, It might be nice but it's another thing.

  • @panenrico I suspect you are asking for the classical interpretation where it is neither required or even appropriate. This is a woman singing to a man in a completely different context and language. I believe your complaints , while not wrong, are off point. She sounds lovely and conveys the emotion quite well.

  • @panenrico I've heard quite a few of the worlds great tenors sing this song and her version is every bit as good as theirs were. She has a beautiful voice and she does justice to this aria.

  • Deanna Durbin is heaven on earth.. so beautiful, so wonderful, so gracious with such remarkable talent. Listening to her spreads great joy. Her voice is enchanting!

  • @performingsys . I fully agree with every word you say about Deanna.

In the late forties about 14y old, i for the first time saw a Deanna Durbin movie. It was this movie, after she sang

Nessun Dorma she rushed at last in the arms of her lover. I was ashamed that i left the bios with wet eyes.

I remained a fan of her up till now. Playing her movies over and over again.

  • not bad

  • She has lived in France since the 1940's. A rare talent...but not in this song. "Nessun Dorma" is best sung by a tenor.

  • Goodness gracious. She was wonderful. Absolutely first class.

  • I dont have the word's to describe how watching this made me feel.Only that I will never forget it.Such a warm and heart felt delivery.

    Most perfect.

    Thank you,

    Henry

  • what beauty, what talent, what tears!!!!!!

  • Thank you Deanna, your parents, and God.

  • i wonder if anyone reolizes that this december it will be missdurbins 90 thbirthday

  • My God! I am crying. What a beautiful women and what a beautiful voice!

  • @iCraved I think so.

  • Since the 60's the heart of America has been torn to shreds. She brings back great memories and beautiful music. We were a great people and we could get so much done but now politic's is destroying us. Music is where we hide from the events of the day. Thanks to the computer we can listen to yesteryear and Deanna and Jeanette MacDonald and all the other great artist.

  • @iCraved -- You should take into consideration the fact that the recording techniques were so much less sophisticated than today's. You are not hearing the full depth of the timbre of the voice and the vibrato is slightly exaggerated. What you can still hear is the evenness from top to bottom and the sheer beauty of a beautifully supported vocal sound that is perfectly placed. Listen again keeping that in mind.

  • @jaubrey00 I can't imagine how even more beautiful her voice could get...

  • She's like a violin

  • His butlers sister, love this film and she is mmmmmmmmmm lovely

  • I think of Pavarotti when I hear this song but I had not heard Deanna's version of this song before, it is very beautiful :)

  • L'hanno cantata (e la cantano) talmente in tanti che avrebbero dovuto fare altro nella vita che... perché no?

  • My late father liked her so much and he is just one year older than Deanna, born in 1921. Thanks to the dream technology like YouTube with such great people to share all the great world cultural heritage, I am here to celebrate a beautiful rendition of that special song. My father must be weeping in heaven now like I am here on earth. Eijiro Odagiri

  • WOW!!! I've heard hundreds of recording of Nessun Dorma, but never this one! What a voice. Thank you for extending my musical education.

  • Best version of this ever

  • I can hear a Nightingale singing,..Deanna Durbin !!! a most beautifull and gifted soul was she. " _ "

  • @GravitasEntoForte what do me was , SHE is still alive !! she lives in france , her real name is edna may

  • Many people forget that Deanna Durbin was an incredibly versatile singer. Unlike her other movie star soprano contemporaries eg Jeanette MacDonald, Kathryn Grayson, Jane Powell etc she could not only handle a Puccini aria effortlessly, but everything else from jazz to a subdued ballad - and somehow get away with it. Watch her perform 'The Turntable Song' in 'Something In the Wind'; 'Spring Will Be A Little Late This Year' in 'Christmas Holiday' and you'll see what I mean.

  • @misstinsley I was introduced to this beautiful song by my late Nan and my Mother who told me that this amazing actress and singer sung this wonderful song. I loved the film and the song is amazing, Deanna Durbin had a voice like pure crystal and her vocals here are emotive, powerful and so heartfelt, what a joy to find tis hear, thank you :)

  • Someone said they like Sarah Brightman better. Please! Deanna Durbin could wipe the floor with Sarah Brightman!

  • Truly a Classic...standing ovation 5 star performance. Thanks for sharing...

  • Deanna Durbin is the greatest and most beautiful female singer in the world to me! And this movie clip is just one more reason why.

  • Probably the Greatest Female Singer in History.

  • @MrKasey361 I say Maria Callas and her are the greatest female singers in the history

  • WOW WOW WOW!!!!! FANTASTIC. WHAT AN ANGELIC VOICE. BRAVA!!!

  • bravo!!!!she has so amazing voice,brilliant!!!!

  • Everyone who worked with her said she was amazingly matter of fact. She respected the work she was asked to do and was always prepared, focused and disciplined. She wasn't given to temper tantrums or drama. When she'd enough of films and fame, she walked away. That says a lot right there.

  • I remember Deanna Durbin but I did not remember that she had such a beautifl voice. I must have been too young to appreciate such talent!

  • amazing!!

  • @daniel0Naruto why watch it then you retard?

  • @daniel0Naruto Sarah Brightman is the worst pop opera singer EVER...now shut up

  • @daniel0Naruto Probably one of the most stupid things I've read on here so far. Don't talk.

  • Sarah Brightman also sang this, and shame on her for attempting it. :P Deanna Durbin does a *much* better job -- I still prefer it sung by Pavarotti or Domingo, but I must admit that Durbin's expression and the volume she is able to achieve with her voice are quite impressive.

  • Deanna Durbin ou Sarah Brightman? Entre as duas, prefiro a versão de contratenor do Vitas porque é muito melhor do que as duas. Andrea Bocelli que se cuide!

  • @tatiannaraquel I love Vitas. I also love Deanna. It's ok to like more than one singer.

  • @tatiannaraquel Brightman by far.

  • es una ari apara tenor......en cualquier caso y aun siendo amante de lo antiguo......prefiero la version femenina de sarah brightman....aunque adoro a deanna durbin por su trayectoria filmica y por su color de voz.....

  • Wow! What a voice - I remember her from the 40's - theres nothing to touch her today - BARNOLDSWICK - UK

  • An interesting thing. Her mouth is absolutely gorgeous and certainly enhances her appearance as a singer. She was beautiful, had a gorgeous figure and was an actress who projected fun, delight and sincerity. I own all her films. She's always right on target. If you look closely you will see she holds I think it is her left arm a bit strangely and it looks a bit stiff. An aunt of mine who was a Durbin devotee noted that from her first films. The story? I don't know.

  • @waynebrasler joe pasternak knew how to cast her some of her other films as she got older put her in scripts with risky themes (written on the wind) for one

  • @waynebrasler She broke her left arm as a child and it never healed perfectly, so that she couldn't extend it fully.

  • Gorgeous dress, gorgeous scene, gorgeous music. You don't see or hear things like this anymore.

  • @OrchidAkuma this was made when studio's ruled , you could have half a dozen top names in one movie , their saleries and the price of a ticket were under control

THE GOLDEN AGE OF HOLLYWOOD , the shit they make today stinks as bad as the politics that govern us, SAD , she has some voice

  • Wonder why she sings this aria. There are hundred of tenors who sing this perfectly. She better sings arias written for high sopranos. I know some tenthousends of them.....

    Hans NL

  • @qklq42 As long as it's in concert format, why does it matter? It's a beautiful song, and as long as the singer performs it as perfectly as this, I couldn't care less what gender s/he is. (BTW several male roles in opera are routinely played by women....so opera is flexible, I think! lol plus, I'd never want to tell a guy he wasn't allowed to sing "Vissi D'Arte"....that would be cruel!)

  • I loved her old movies and she had a wonderful voice but I think this is a man's song.

  • 21 and beautiful

  • The men are just creepy... dirty old men... the old woman is like a pimp or something so happy to be temping that first guy... kind of crazy for a soprano to sing but what the heck??!! she sang beautifully!!!

  • @mtm650812 IF I had to choose between this and the creepy men in the movie HAVOC that Ann hathaway made I'd choose this , modern movies stink

  • @mtm650812 Why are the men creepy? They're just watching her sing!

  • Fantástico e Deanna Durbin cantando Nessun Dorma que é dificil. E é de arrepiar a ópera Turandot como um todo

  • lol All the guys are mesmorized.

  • wow!! when she rushes through the crows! it's beautiful

  • She sings it well, but it just doesn't sound right in English

  • Beautifully sung and much better than I expected a female Nessun Dorma to be. Even so, it's kind of odd to see a woman singing it (in English) in alternative lyrics about love for a man [eg. "at daybreak he'll be mine," instead of " at dawn I shall win"], when normally it is Prince Calaf singing about wanting to win the hand of Turandot.

  • @orlando098 You are so right :-)

  • Yikes! What a voice! I had no idea that she was a remarkable singer as well as a very successful actress.

  • Deanna Durbin, como era maravilhosa, eu jamais vou esquece-la, sempre fui sua fan.

  • It seems to me that back then they were much more than us in every positive way!

The culture today, if it can be called "culture" at all except in a purely abstract sense, does seem way inferior to me; and most humanoids ... I can't imagine any of my university friends doing anything remotely close to her performance or mere presence. We seem like spoilt brats in comparison.

Shame on the public education for ruining the western civilization that our ancestors created.

  • @PeaceAndGloryMB I'm glad I'm not the only uni student with some taste.

  • @PeaceAndGloryMB Right on!!

  • perfect so beautiful. Bill

  • no wonder my parents named me after her...she awesome!

  • Could some kindly re-write what she is singing? I can barely hear the lyric...

i noticed that the lyric is not a nessun dorma pure translation... it's different

none shall sleep tonight... none shall sleep tonight...

until the dawn....(that's all i can hear)

    best regard...

  • One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.

  • Her tears of overwhelming joy are now transplanted into my eyes, and are sliding without shame down my face. Magnificent most beautiful DEANNA DURBIN, my favorite artist of all time is singing my favorite musical masterpiece. It doesn't get any better than this! Thank you for this timeless memory!

  • After listening 2 & watching several clips of Deanna Durbin, I am surprised that she isn't remembered as the greatest singer of the mid 20th Century. I have worked with such artists as Soprano, Marni Nixon; Soprano Audra McDonald, and Soprano Donna Roll all of these artists have taught me amazing things, and I thank them for what they have done for me as an artist; but, I have yet to find many baritones other than the greats Nathan Gunn, Hvorostovsky,Gobbi, et al who have enspired me. Bravo!

  • The unering musicality is important here ... however , it is her supurb ability to register her EMOTIONS to the audiance that truly makes this version one alone !

I'm fifty four years old and I have had a crush on Miss Durbin since I was about ten ! Some things never change ... :)

  • Mariah Carey has a very rich voice like three in one , she would have made a great opera singer if she followed that training , but you have to love something to be able to put the passion in it to make it bloom , so for Mariah Carey she followed her heart and sings the songs that mover her ,

  • she has such great talent , joe pasternak tried but no one seemed to be able to give her a script worthy of her talent , they saddled her with scripts that dealt with incest , written in the wind, murder on a train that helped cook her career , I should have been her writer , musical comedy of an adult fashion would have been better for her instead of the twisted scripts she was given as an adult

  • @gaemp Scrooge.

  • @notanotheraccount ... too much beer or what..??

  • @gaemp OK, since you obviously don't get the reference to Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol", let me put it in terms an illiterate oaf would understand: how about "grumpy old fart"? Loosen up and enjoy it. Your treasured Italian recordings by dudes will still be around when she's finished.

  • WHAT MOVIE? Please somebody tell me. My Mom loves Deanna Durbin, but we somehow don't have this movie. I need it for her (and for me)!

  • @freetobeme03 This clip is from the movie "His Butler's Sister". One of my favorites! You can watch the whole thing here on youtube.

  • @musicallyspeakings88 GAHH!! THaNK YOu!! I had a feeling that was the one, and that it was good! I had no idea it was all on Youtube either. My mom and I are going to have to set a movie date night to watch it!! Thanks again!

  • Comment removed

  • @freetobeme03 You're welcome!

  • this fill my heart

  • Absolutely lovely, both visually as well as aurally. Let the purists howl about it being in English, I liked it enormously when sung as well as Deanna did.

    Brava!

That was most evocative when she sang the climactic ending and rushed off the stage to embrace him.

    Thank you for posting this!

  • Deanna Durbin, enquanto canta "Nessun Dorma", antecipa o que Sarah Brightman faria com a ária lírica 56 anos mais tarde (1999) - e o que Vitas também faria com ela em 2009.

  • OMG...its the most beautiful, amazing, fantsatic...im actualy lost for words to describe how incredible this was for me.

didnt like to hear it in english though....it shouldve been sang in italian..... im speechless

  • Oh my Christ.... I wept when she ran off the stage.... gripping stuff. Don't make them like they used to... pure classic!

  • Does somebody knows where to find the wordt belonging to this song of Deanna?

  • @HAYTOZED, ive see the Aretha's version, is really good, but her italian is like mine english ..:), just search around for anothers not italian...u can found a lot of good, not like Paravotti maybe, but a Opera Singer is another world :)

  • sorry, but "NESSUN DORMA" from "Turandot" is in Italian, is not the same thing ;)

  • @AndreaSalvi69 Aretha's version would floor her anytime. apart from Pavarotti only Aretha can .

  • @HAYTOZED This is extraordinary even if the purest objects to English. Aretha is a fine singer but she isn't an opera singer and doesn't approach this level of tone, vocal quality or control. Pavarotti is an opera singer and does a good rendition maybe not the best but good.

  • @DdotArt I believe that a lot of vocalists, like Aretha, could had become opera singers, if they had choose to do so, this includes, Whitney Houston, Roberts Flack, Shanice Wilson, and Mariya Carey. But... instead, sung, R&B / Ballads.

  • @MrJeffreydunson Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston.... they couldn't have dedicated their lifes to opera. They lack proper vocal training (Belting is may be ok for the masses, but it's not a proper way of singing), and proper artistry and musicality (especially Carey). Opera is art, REAL art. R&B singers should stay where they are. They are good where they are,

  • @AOG93 I meant no disrespect toward, Ms. Deanna Durbin. I was saying that they have the talent, to perhaps, pursuit of a career in the field in the classics. Yet, it did take years of voice training to get where they are today, which is made clear and reinforced by the respect of their peers as well as, endless awards from around the world. I do believe your right !!! Opera is a real art and serious training of a life's work., while R%B, remains Entertainment for the mass. Thank you for sharing

  • @AOG93 But when is music art? do you mean that only Classical music is art?

  • @gracie164 Certainly classical music is art! But what I meant is that I don't consider the pop trash, that many dedicate themselves to and comsume, art. Music is music... but I'll die before I call.. let's say Britney Spears, an artist!! :)

    PS: love Deanna...

  • @AOG93 Well Britney is kind of an extreme don't you think? ;) What I meant is if you only consider Classical music art. Because for example a lot of music of African origin have another style and tradition, African music is more about the rhythm but that doesn't make it less of an art. I also think that pop musicians can be artists if they are creative, innovative and dedicate their life to what they do, IMO MJ was an artist. My question is when do you consider music to be art?

  • @HAYTOZED Good Lord are you kidding me? Can you hear? This song is way out of Aretha's league.

  • Gewoon fantastisch.

  • english????? omg.............

  • Watch and listen to "Deanna Durbin Grenada"

    It is fabulous!

  • Why she sings in english?

  • @BLOP888 Clever, I thinkLOL!

  • -.- nessum dorma auf ENGLISCH???? nein danke. da kann auch die beste stimme nichts mehr ausrichten. es gibt lieder, die macht man nur kaputt, wenn man sie in andere sprachen üversetzt.

  • she's so beautiful! her voice AND her looks!

  • She has a AMAZING voice! I can't get over how beautiful it is :o
