I believe the "DarkSide" became "stronger" after Anakin fell. The emperor gained something and that is why Yoda could only draw with Sidious, although, Sidious looked afraid at times. Yoda, was too Old at this point. The Force was not balanced, and only through Anakins return was it brought back into balance.

Against windu he killed 3 or 4 jedis (powerful ones) before being defeated and look what happened to Obi Wan when he and Anakin faced Count Dooku together (the rematch). Sidious could kill Obi Wan before focusing on Yoda. This possibility is just as credible as Sidious being killed.

Well firstly Yoda defeats him more in less in the lightsaber battle. You can see on decent print that Sidious isn't laughing here at all. He is straining and getting frustrated. Yoda is in control and ascendancy at this point. Sidious jumps away and when finally he tries to do Yoda with the Lightning he eventually loses the power. Its yoda offensive move that pushes them both back. In the end its just so close, but sidious hangs on. yoda does not. Neither of them won though.

Quote that from the novelisation if you would then please as I have the script of Sith here and it explicitly says that Yoda disarms Sidious. Yoda did not run away beaten he left as his vision pierced the dark veil and he saw the future was in helping Skywalker (its canon). Its kind of as simple as this though, Mace Windu beat Sidious and Yoda is better than Windu . Also Sidious fails in his lightning attack and the blast is Yoda sending it back. This is all canon. No one won.

Sidious also failed to killed yoda. So probably both failed.
The Novelization of the movie explained it much better - He never had it. He had lost be4 the fight even before he was born. They were fighting the Old Sith, where as the new Sith had evolved, become stronger, mastered Jedi Lore and all aspects of the force. War itself had become a tool to feed the dark side.
Yoda was never gonna beat Sidious, he wasn't strong enough. He may have been on par with him...but that is as far as he was ever gonna get.
@RHX2 yoda was definitely stronger than sidious and i'm sure he did have intentions of defeating sidious here but he was weakened by the the disturbances in the force from the death of the jedi as you remember him falling to his knees. He left the fight because sidious was putting up a solid fight and there was a small army of storm troopers headed to these chambers.

i've just noticed. palpatine's saber fell off from the building, probably thousands of stories down, when mace windu tried to kill him, but he suddenly got it again when he dueled with yoda. weird. o.o

Yoda left because it was a going to be draw (also given the fact that the clone troopers were on their way). Hiding out to prepare for luke was the only option left.
I love this fight. But why does Yoda feel somewhat powerless? To me Yoda is the Bruce Lee of the jedi and whjile Sidious is powerful. He won because Yoda felt the need to run after falling. Come to think of it Yoda and Obi Wan should have fought Anakin together first. Think of how much easier it would have been.

I remember when I was in the cinema watching this and everyone pissed themselves laughing when yoda knocked over the two guys standing lol - Have to say though this is probably one of the best shows I ever watched on the Big Screen, that and the Dark Knight.
In no way shape or form is Palpatine better than Yoda. They are evenly matched. Palpatine probably has more control on the force, where Yoda makes up that small deficit in being slightly better with a lightsaber. The difference is so small that they are essentially evenly matched. Palpatine just happened to win this round.

No offense to any yoda lovers, but you gotta admit yoda really sucks. Yeah he's all powerful and all, but what does he actually accomplish in any of these movies that helps the Jedi in any way? Failed to kill Doku, failed to see the darkness in Anakin's heart, fails to kill Sidious, and hardly does a thing to train Luke. I think they should have shown Yoda defeating Dooku, advising the Jedi more, teaching Luke more and seeing the darkness in Sidious and Anakin. But I think its understandable why Yoda couldnt kill Sidious because Yoda, while he was a match for him, did not truly have the power to defeat him. But I do love Yoda when he teaches and fights but not when hes a clone trooper general and other things.

I love watching Yoda and Palpatine fight but I did have one problem with it. When Yoda and Palpatine fight with the senate pods, why does Yoda struggle when in Attack of the Clones, he effortlessly deflected ALL of Count Dookus attacks, could someone PLEASE tell me. Surely Yoda could have deflected them all back at Palpatine but instead he jumps to avoid them. But I love the other parts of the duel.
@broman178 Palpatine is in a completely different league than Dooku. Keep in mind that Dooku was Palpatine's pupil. If you look at Wookiepedia, it explains how Palpatine was one of the most powerful Sith in history, next to Darth Bane and a few others. So, in that sense, fighting Dooku is nothing compared to Palpatine.
Dooku wasn't his "Pupil". There was nothing Sidious could teach Dooku - other than various aspects of the dark side - because he was already a Jedi that was on par with Yoda, the master of Form II lightsaber form...
@RHX2 Yes, I know Yoda trained him first. And I'm aware that he was on par with Yoda. But, as you can see, Yoda was ultimately defeated by Palpatine. All I'm saying is that Palpatine was more powerful than Dooku. Since Anakin (who is less skilled and experienced than Yoda) was able to kill Dooku, then we can safely say that Palpatine was more powerful than Yoda and Dooku. It may be due to age on Yoda's part that he lost, but he was defeated either way.
Anakin killed him because Dooku couldn't handle the fact that he was younger, far more aggressive - and his age had caught up to him finally in that fight. If he had been younger - I still believe Dooku would have whooped his backside. His fighting style was more like fencing, and relied on his superior footwork...
As for Yoda, it never had anything do with age. THe novel made it clear he had lost even b4 he was born - because the Sith changed, the Jedi hadn't

Well firstly Yoda defeats him more in less in the lightsaber battle. You can see on decent print that Sidious isn't laughing here at all. He is straining and getting frustrated. Yoda is in control and ascendancy at this point. Sidious jumps away and when finally he tries to do Yoda with the Lightning he eventually loses the power. Its yoda offensive move that pushes them both back. In the end its just so close, but sidious hangs on. yoda does not. Neither of them won though.

@jaredneedsalife the sith use their anger in battle that's what sidious was doing it wasn't frustration. but for most of the fight he was just laughing his ass off and in the official novelization it is basically yoda talking about how much of a better fighter sidious is than himself, and how he doesn't stand a chance of beating sidious. and in the film as you can see yoda runs away after getting blasted down so loses by forfeit because he knows he can't beat sidious.

Quote that from the novelisation if you would then please as I have the script of Sith here and it explicitly says that Yoda disarms Sidious. Yoda did not run away beaten he left as his vision pierced the dark veil and he saw the future was in helping Skywalker (its canon). Its kind of as simple as this though, Mace Windu beat Sidious and Yoda is better than Windu . Also Sidious fails in his lightning attack and the blast is Yoda sending it back. This is all canon. No one won.

He beat palpatine in the lightsaber duell and I'm sure if he didn't fall down he also would have won in a pure force battle. (Yoda was just too expierence in the force). But of course it was a part of the prophecy. Yoda knows that. Darth Vader killed Palpatine.

The Novelization of the movie explained it much better - He never had it. He had lost be4 the fight even before he was born. They were fighting the Old Sith, where as the new Sith had evolved, become stronger, mastered Jedi Lore and all aspects of the force. War itself had become a tool to feed the dark side.
Yoda was never gonna beat Sidious, he wasn't strong enough. He may have been on par with him...but that is as far as he was ever gonna get.

@RHX2 yoda was definitely stronger than sidious and i'm sure he did have intentions of defeating sidious here but he was weakened by the the disturbances in the force from the death of the jedi as you remember him falling to his knees. He left the fight because sidious was putting up a solid fight and there was a small army of storm troopers headed to these chambers.

They seemed roughly equal to me, maybe Sidious was slightly stronger, but one must ask why Sidious was trying to run away if he could kill him so easily? Although Sidious didn't laugh at all when he fought Windu, so I suppose Windu gave Sidious a harder time than Yoda did.

i've just noticed. palpatine's saber fell off from the building, probably thousands of stories down, when mace windu tried to kill him, but he suddenly got it again when he dueled with yoda. weird. o.o

@1DPIKI just found out. he had an extra one, ftw. the original golden one dropped along the gutters of the coruscant underworld, never to be retrieved. his extra was a black one, and he used it up until to his death. i found it out here:

I love this fight. But why does Yoda feel somewhat powerless? To me Yoda is the Bruce Lee of the jedi and whjile Sidious is powerful. He won because Yoda felt the need to run after falling. Come to think of it Yoda and Obi Wan should have fought Anakin together first. Think of how much easier it would have been.

In no way shape or form is Palpatine better than Yoda. They are evenly matched. Palpatine probably has more control on the force, where Yoda makes up that small deficit in being slightly better with a lightsaber. The difference is so small that they are essentially evenly matched. Palpatine just happened to win this round.

No offense to any yoda lovers, but you gotta admit yoda really sucks. Yeah he's all powerful and all, but what does he actually accomplish in any of these movies that helps the Jedi in any way? Failed to kill Doku, failed to see the darkness in Anakin's heart, fails to kill Sidious, and hardly does a thing to train Luke. I mean seriously, the little green crap just sits around doing nothing the whole time. And the few times he actually needs to get his hands dirtyhe fails. Worthlessinmyopinion

I think they should have shown Yoda defeating Dooku, advising the Jedi more, teaching Luke more and seeing the darkness in Sidious and Anakin. But I think its understandable why Yoda couldnt kill Sidious because Yoda, while he was a match for him, did not truly have the power to defeat him. But I do love Yoda when he teaches and fights but not when hes a clone trooper general and other things.

I love watching Yoda and Palpatine fight but I did have one problem with it. When Yoda and Palpatine fight with the senate pods, why does Yoda struggle when in Attack of the Clones, he effortlessly deflected ALL of Count Dookus attacks, could someone PLEASE tell me. Surely Yoda could have deflected them all back at Palpatine but instead he jumps to avoid them. But I love the other parts of the duel.

@broman178 Palpatine is in a completely different league than Dooku. Keep in mind that Dooku was Palpatine's pupil. If you look at Wookiepedia, it explains how Palpatine was one of the most powerful Sith in history, next to Darth Bane and a few others. So, in that sense, fighting Dooku is nothing compared to Palpatine.

Dooku wasn't his "Pupil". There was nothing Sidious could teach Dooku - other than various aspects of the dark side - because he was already a Jedi that was on par with Yoda, the master of Form II lightsaber form...

All I'm saying is that Palpatine was more powerful than Dooku. Since Anakin (who is less skilled and experienced than Yoda) was able to kill Dooku, then we can safely say that Palpatine was more powerful than Yoda and Dooku. It may be due to age on Yoda's part that he lost, but he was defeated either way.

Anakin killed him because Dooku couldn't handle the fact that he was younger, far more aggressive - and his age had caught up to him finally in that fight. If he had been younger - I still believe Dooku would have whooped his backside. His fighting style was more like fencing, and relied on his superior footwork...
As for Yoda, it never had anything do with age. THe novel made it clear he had lost even b4 he was born - because the Sith changed, the Jedi hadn't

@RHX2 Palpatine was the most powerful Dark Lord of the Sith. Yoda was only the most powerful Jedi of that era, Rise of the Empire era 32 BBY - 19BBY, not in the history of the Jedi order, making him less powerful than Palpatine. That was my argument.
