I have a 86 735i vert, everything is good until I reach about 3800 rpm's then the engine has a power loss and fire. I have checked the fuel pressure regulator, the full throttle switch the mass air flow sensor crankshaft sensor ,coil spark plug, coil wire, distiboters, no luck so far, any ideas on what I should do next....rep me please thxxx
in situations like that when it is very cold try this...
turn the contact on , wait until heater's signal shut down , turn the contact off , and turn it on again wait for the heater's signal to shut down again , and then start the engine ...
About your problem - check the black rubber part between airbox and air intake - look for holes in it, this may be the problem. And about sparks - do not buy any other sparks than recommended by BMW I do not tell you this because somebody told me that and that - I talk from my own experience. I changed sparks on 316i m43, 318is m42, 320i m52 and 328i m52 and the original parts were always the best optimal parts
Im not saying manuals are better, faster and more fun yes but less stress to the engine. I have an auto M3
Your idle seems to be way too high idk my car idles at 500; assuming thats your problem check air flow sensors, exhaust sensors, could be anything hard to tell with so little info, how does it drive?
An automatic transmission in M3? :-DDD well what M3? E30, E36, E46, E92? in every M3 there is no automatic transmission available man - only:
SMG - Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG I in E36, SMG II in E46, SMG III in E60 M5 and E64 M6)
and
DCT - Double Clutch Transmission in E92
And what do you mean by stress? The only problem with automatic is if you drive on N - that does even no harm to the engine, only to the transmission and if you tow another car - that is bad for both (engine & trans.)
No M3s have autos? Wrong. My car is an E36 M3. The E36 M3 was the only one offered with an automatic transmission. The E36 came in a 5spd, 6spd in europe, SMG I in europe, and an automatic was offered everywhere.
Autos put more stress on an engine because people give throttle through shifts which strains the torque converter, which in itself is a drain and extra load on the engine which, as any additional load would, puts stress on the engine.
I apologize then because I am from Europe and didn't know about automatic transmission in any M series. A almost forgot that for example US version of an E36 M3 3.2 is way too different from Europe version so there could be many more differences.
Yes, we have less powerful engines and much, much else is different between our cars. I actually am quite certain as well that Europe got the automatic transmission on the E36 though I cant find much information on it. Anyways, didnt mean to try to prove you wrong just wanted to let you know we did get automatics! Cheers.
And I am glad that you taught me something new :-) because on E36 I am a Pro :-))))
I mean as I just look on an E36 I can see what year it is built and every other info about it :-) show me the engine - I will tell you which it is (m42, m50 etc) etc. etc. :-)
Anyways, thanx for teaching me something new ;-)
Yes we had (have) autos in E36 but not M3s just normal from 316 to 328
The biggest problem, is that it is a 4 cyl bmw. Buy a 6 cyl bmw, the 4 cyl was crap

maybe it was oil vicocity too thick during cold, may be you use the wrong grade,
it should be 0W40 for cold climate, it was hydraulic lifter sound, oil does not flow well., try to replace the oil filter and new engine oil 0W40.

automatic transmission is for loser and your problem is ROFL read menual man
Rejez72 3 years ago
automatic transmissions are not for loosers.
please next time dont post crap like that.
both manual and automatic are good.
manual is faster, automatic doesnt break .
u spend more money on manual then automatic.
engine lasts longer in an automatic car as the engine changes speed when is required and driver cant rev the shit out of it or miss gears
