I wonder if this is actually the UK. The credits list the host as being Reiner Schwartz, who was a Toronto TV/radio fixture throughout the 70s and 80s (and a radio exec after that). Also, Stew Bull is listed as the gaffer, and he was a Toronto guy, too. Could this be an episode of TVOntario's "Media 77" show?
WOW!! No wonder Neil liked to warm up behind the canvas to Gary McCracken's last couple songs before Max would finish and Rush take stage. Neil talks about that in the "Contents Under Pressure" book.Even though each band has it's individual sound, you can see the common thread running through MW and Rush...the changes, the weird timings, the fills in drum pieces....etc. In US, Rush would get other openers so, although seeing Rush often, never saw MW open for them. Would have LOVED that!!
Damn, I LOVE this band, and have since '77 when I got turned on to them. Brilliant writing, playing, production, vocals. Pye's lyrics grated on my nerves from time to time, but it wouldn't have been Max without 'em. Criminally underrated--
I remember the concert here in London Ontario Canada ....max Webster opened for Rush. That was in 1976 . Kim wore his pajamas that night. Perfect matchup for a concert. Ye Olde London gardens.
Its kinda sad knowing that in total Max Webster only sold around 5,000 albums over here in the UK. :/ Their big break was supporting Rush in 79' but most of us dumb Brits were more interested in the Bar :(
@RuddigerRiptoe I was merely saying that Max Webster didn't get the respect they deserved, not that we English didn't have some good bands crawl out of our tiny island.
@NeedMillionVacations It's a good song about something that sucks. I grew up on this band. Kim Mitchel is the afternoon (3pm) weekday dj on Toronto's radio station Q107.
Wow! Like where the hell did you get this?..I remember this program being on TVO when I was a teenager. I saw Max Webster several times back in the mid 70's. One of the greatest Canadina bands of all time.
And in true Max style, a little comedy relief at 2:05

They were the warm up band for Rush, Starcastle and Styx in like 1977 or 78 when I saw them live In Mpls. Fantastic obscure band.

This might be the best version of hangover known to man. Is there anymore footage from this show?

Greatness can never be mass marketed. While the masses fawn over the "star" of the day - a true searcher must dig deeper for true musical brilliance.
