McCain has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from his long time being tortured as a prisoner of war. He is stuck there to a great extent. Campaigning is a stressful trigger for him, stress of Presidency would be worse. He is better off in retirement, healing his PTSD and enjoying his last years.
