I read the book "goon" and the author said berube almost quit after being roundly beaten by byers and miller...Don't know if this is true but this could've been that game.

Yes he did beat Kluzac and it was a good fight, but Gord wasn't really a fighter as he only had 38 fights in his entire career. Kyte landed much better in the 2nd half of the fight.
It's a shame Kyte is remembered for getting KO'd by Kocur and Ray though. He was a decent fighter.

You are completely wrong. Byers was 10 months OLDER than Kocur, a year and 4 months OLDER than Probert, and McSorely was 10 months older than Byers. They were ALL close in age. Unfortunately, back in the 80's, the Bruins only played Western conference teams once a year. Thats why they never fought. They hardly ever faced each other.
They only played Detroit once a year, so they hardly ever had the opportunity to go....same with McSorely and Kocur. They played in the Western conference. Byers fought all the top fighters in the east, and beat several of the best including John Kordic, Dave Semenko, Basil Mccrae, Mike Foligno, Clark Gillies, Shayne Corson, Kevin Maguire, Troy Crowder, Everett Sanipass, Glen Cochrane, Todd Ewen, Rob Ray, Tie Domi, Darrin Kimble and Tony Twist. Byers never ducked anyone.
Both were pretty good fighters, though Byers got the nod in this one. Byers beat some pretty tough guys like Ken Baumgartner, while Berube beat the likes of Marty McSorley.
