I've known Glen when he played with the Russell Brothers at Renfro Valley, I was just a small girl then. LOL. He played on my father's first album he recorded. We love Glen and Glen if you read this, Larry Mckinley and family are praying for you! Stay in touch with us friend!
Glen Duncan is an old time family friend, his first record was on my Dad's record. Saw him play many times at Renfro Valley. For some odd reason Longview replaced him, he has a style all of his own.
Awesome fiddling; cool jam, definitely would call it 'katy hill', but its longer, so even though you don't hear lots of signature tugboat/leather britches/sally johnson stuff, it comes off like that. do I hear a little bit of 'methodist preacher' in there, too?... actually after going back and listening again, there's a WHOLE LOT of methodist preacher. take 3:40 on for one example. good stuff.
Glen Duncan is the best fiddler (IMHO) around today. He has played with numerous bluegrass bands. Many country music stars. Such as Reba McIntyre, The Kendalls, Patty Loveless. Has played on hundreds of recordings for artists. Is one of the preferred fiddlers for TV shows. Yes, as Mike Snyder once said, Poor Glen just can't keep a job. lol
I just ran across your posting today. My name is Jim Ed Hodges and I would hope you're not talking about me and if you are, I don't know why you would be. I can't imagine that there are too many people with my name who play the fiddle.
xms32 was making statements claiming he was jim ed hodges and i can say along with a lot of others that post on here that he was not doing your name any good. i will delete all my comments from the past and i would certainly ask xms32 why he is pretending to be you! sorry !
Glen Duncan great fiddle work on any song he wants to play one of the best if not the best fiddler in bluegrass/country music. I remember him years back with a group called Stoney Creek in Lexington Kentucky. He always done some greaty/wonderfull fiddle playing when he recorded with Larry Sparks. I have to agree they played way to dam long on this tune.
Boy this guy sure can play..Makes it all look so friggin' easy too..Am not a big fan of Bluegrass as much as old-time but this fiddling is something..Great music..
he's really good

This definitely isn't Sally Johnson... I think it's Katy Hill? But yeah, it's an awesome song, and Glen does it justice. = )

Nice fidding and it should be noted that Glen and the band segue into Methodist Preacher at 2:58 in the video.

I cannot believe how awesome Mr Duncan is! He does it so effortlessly! You can tell a true professional, it comes from within, not mechanical. Wow!
