I am wondering, are students of the US taught that the Lusitania was an American ship simply minding its own business and being sunk by cowardly and aggressive German U-Boats?

Nations join in wars due to agreements or treaties which they sign, America had none. America simply chose to ignore the German blockade at its own risk, that and it heavily invested in the allies. A defeated allies would mean no money coming back to those in the US who invested in them. Like always, greed and personal interest ruled America, not honor or principal.

Americans typically have an interesting perspective from wars which they fight in. Lusitania deserved to be sunk, it carried weapons. Britain had a blockade going on Germany, and as such, Germany had a blockade on Britain, don't act surprised.

First, you are forgetting the large number of Africans that were brought in as slaves in colonial times. next you are forgetting large scale refugees (which, yes, germans are included in) like the Irish. b) it was a British ship kid...
c) although it was classified as an Armed Merchant Cruiser it had never been fitted with any weapons.
