Still love Martha and this song, and I heard her and her band a few years ago. No dig, but her keyboardist needs to buy/use a synth that can at least come close to emulating the one used in the original recording. Using a Rhodes or Rhodes patch leaves the song sounding thin and less dramatic ... something is definitely lost without that great synth sound.
I heard a really great interview with her about 7 years ago. She said she karaoke'd this song once in a contest, no one in the room knew it was her. She didn't win :(. But she thought it was hilarious. She's a natural entertainer.
i can't believe i'm here! i was over somewhere else when someone mentioned "the ramons", and i suddenly remembered way back about 1976 in a small place that only sat 1,200 people in denver, and i had seen the ramones there. and pat banitar, and i couldn't remember their name (motels) so i thought, and i thought, and finally remembered this song!! and here i am. i gotta tell you i remember her getting down on her knees in front of the sax player and looking very provacative
this is freakin awesome!!! great solo. the guitarist pretty much nailed it. love the way he went through the old sax part. Martha sounded awesome also.
I hate comments like this- because they're true. And yes i know, the mirror- my good friend in the glory days- will become my enemy soon. I can't blame time, i'm still in a good shape considering the circumstances, but what really killed me was the day i realised that my eyes have lost their haughty shine. I guess i'm not the only one who remarked this "small" but so crucial chance. Greetings & salutations from Germany to all the like-minded all over the world.
Ahh yes! A wonderfully made song from Martha Davis & The Motels! Always loved going to The Coachhouse in San Juan Capistrano, CA. She still is an amazing artist!!
she is very talented...i remember her when i was a kid and oh my god was she utterlly stellARLY beautiful...im glad she is still around she sounds just as good as she did 27 years ago
And I've got 2 words for u...point taken! But blathering? In NYC, she said who she supported and it was because she has grandchildren to think about now. That's human enough, isn't it?
Well, I suppose we could liken it to if someone started hawking for their religion.
...And that's why it's stressed in public places to stay away from topics of religion and politics. And to talk about the topic at hand... more The Motels music!
Have you YouTubed "Teeth"? It is CLASSIC Martha Davis vocals!
LOL! At the NYC show, Martha said 2 sentences one was, "Please, I got grandchildren, man." then she took a sip of her drink and played So L.A or Take The "L" or another totally excellent Motels song. Frankly, I liked the tidbit of information about her life! And I voted McCain. There's a tidbit of Godeed information!
Good pause for interesting points of views! BUT what's most important is more of her show that you'll be editing and posting! YAY! I'll be on the lookout! Thanks again!
Just to finish, Bette didn't think twice that oh maybe you paid just to see her sing and do her job. She IS her job.
Sooo, as for consequences for hawking for your candidate onstage if it's an election year at this point for megastars of the 70's/80's Midler, Springsteen, Davis... it won't hurt them. It may hurt CD's sales of the more current Jonas Brothers, MAYBE. But I don't think it would have any effect their either! Her candidate won and she was hawking for her grandchildren's future!
Hmm,I saw Bette Midler at Radio City Music Hall in October 2004 and paid $180.00 to sit in the 2nd to the last row on the floor. Tickets for the front 7 rows were $1000.00. After about the first 4 songs, Bette Midler absolutely paused for a 5 minute insert jokes here about the Republicans political station identification and it made some people squirm and others laughed and agreed.
Like Bruce Springsteen and so many others, she was stating her cause onstage because she could!
Thanks, I kind of questioned whether I should have shown my angst as much as I did, after I sent the one comment. I've had extra aches and pains this whole weekend, and I sometimes feel like I just can't figure the world out, period, in every area of life. But, if you'll allow me to bore you with a brief summing up, here, most days I'm pretty cheerful. I haven't looked over the rest of your y.t. channel, yet, but, based on your musical taste,I bet it's pretty neat. Talk at ya' sometime later on.
I sent the prior comment (different channel), I guess I'm just bummed about finding out about what, to me, are her apparent political delusions, but I should point out I've always really liked her music.
I hate to see any performer shill like a barking seal for a politician, namely one that voted to have the attendants in a "botched abortion" deny medical attention necessary to keep an infant, obviously fighting to live, alive, "medical providers," of which, in fact, evidently will then often outright kill those children. Martha's mystique has left the building, anyone unsoulful enough to get excited about such a concience-less entity, who also reneged on his promise to only take public funding.
@JamaicaMeanOmelette Ok i admit my curiosity has gotten the better of me. So i ask - Just what is the deal about Martha Davis and the issue of politics being mentioned among some of these comments here?. Love this song she sings also love "Suddenly Last Summer".
Thanks for posting this video of Martha and her band! Isn't it great that she still plays LIVE! I saw her performance on 8/30/08 in NYC. Martha's stage presence and voice are EVERGREEN! She is so gracious after the show to come out and greet everyone. Again, appreciate you taking the time to post it for others to view!
Thanks, it was a great show, she is the coolest to make herself so accessible to her fans. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. I'll be editing some more of that show soon, keep an eye out for it in here. Casey [musicucansee]

Great performance...but it is missing that saxophone, isn't it?

If Martha Davis better managed her career, she could have been a lot bigger. Her voice rivals that of 80s best like Benatar.
