it true why you think they were in the back you will surprise will you it a lot to tell when people not telling the truth these are my group forever god love you
Miss Mary simply awesome in this beautiful ballad. I just bought the "Let Yourself Go" box which includes this song and the last 3 LPs by The Supremes. It all sounds like it was recorded today and the box is gorgeous, full of goodies... Don't miss it.
I agree, I didn't like the idea of the Supremes being in the background like that with no light on them so you could see their faces. they appear as almost shadows, making them seem unimportant, but there wouldn't be that great sound without all three members of the group. I don't think it was Mary Wilsons idea to do it though, she isn't the type of hog the spotlight like Diana Ross did.
Dam, I forgot about this! Mary looks very fine, as usual!! Cherri Payne, Freda's sister is beautiful. Freda is still performing but I don't know about her sister. Check out PBS with Lou Rawls to see Ms. Payne (your blood preasure will rise) also Thelma Houston, Aretha, and Mary all sing and strut their beautiful selfs!
@binstence That is great. I had heard that before. Dionne and Mary Wilson are best friends. I met Dionne one night in New York after one of Mary's concerts.
"Mary Wilson looks FLAWLESS here and is singing the type of torch song ballard that suits her sexy voice" a quote from Tony Turner writer of ALL THAT GLITTERED MY LIFE WITH THE SUPREMES . She remains a living legend.
This is one of the greatest songs The Supremes ever recorded and one of the few times Mary's voice was used properly. I'll never forget it because when it came out on that LP I was 15 and madly in love with a boy that was 17. You Are The Heart Of Me became our "theme." Oh what a wonderful time!
@bellachelito beautiful story. I was 16 and my girlfriend at the time gave me this album for Christmas. This song quickly became my favorite as well and now is probably one of my all time songs by the Supremes. Thank you bellachelito for sharing you memories.
@asl126-MAry's husband. He was ruining the group and Cindy had enough. For those wondering why the two are in the background instead of the front with Mary its cause Berry instigated another civil in the group which is what really caused them to end the group in 1977.
Thanks Detroit for letting me be aware of this. I love me some Mary Wilson so I was hoping this wasn't her doing. Overall this song is one of my favorite by the last grouping of the Supremes. The dividing of the vocals was great with this grouping for outside of Scherrie's powerful voice and Susaye's many octaves Mary's vocals blended in so well in between the two with her soothing sound.
There was a division in the group all along with the Supremes I just didn't like this performance shadowing the other two. Since Mary had spoken out about the way the Original Supremes had been treated and how she and Flo/Cindy felt like backups to Diana, she repeated the same crap in this performance. So she sort of made it known here that she was doing what Berry did to Diana.
Vincent, Mary didn't do this. Mike Douglas, Motown and Mr. Ferrer were responsible for this staging of this last song of Mary Wilson with the Supremes.
@Vincent50 I saw how you said that Mary made it known here that she was doing what Berry did to Diana. I beg to differ because Mary deserved every last bit of this song. She was the only original supreme that stayed to the very very end. She earned to sing lead for their last song. I am pretty sure that none of the replacements can feel as much as should could for the Supremes, from going through all of the groups sorrow, to overcoming every obstacle.
I loved this song but I do not like them having Scherrie and Susaye in the shadows. This wasn't Mary Wilson being a solo act or maybe this was what was going to happen soon from that performance. Mary looked radiant and was going to be a mama soon that year with her second child.
Jag, the reason why so much real talent was in the background was because Diana Ross had Berry Gordy nose wide open. If those other artists including Mary, Flo, Brenda Holloway, to name only a few wasn't talented then Berry wouldn't signed them in the first place, as we can see from this song that Mary Wilson is singing. Gladys Knight & The Pips as well as others was fortune enough to get contracts where they were treated fairly and not cheated out of their royalties. Thanks for a lovely song!

this song needed a better hook. After 'you're everything to me....' it falls off.

@bellachelito i have a question for you if you can answer it for me, why did cindy birdsong leave the supremes a second time?

@asl126 I have no idea. I guess she was tired. She probably felt Motown's lack of support for the 70s Supremes and decided to call it quits?

This is the first time I heard this song. I agree that this should have had airplay.
One question--why do you think the other two were kept in the background--in the shadows--in the dark...?

Diana Ross had that nasal sound when she sing
Florence Ballard had that booming voice
Mary Wilson had that jazzy style in her sound.
She keeps the Supremes alive today and she is a living legend. This ballad should've been on the charts and should've recieved radio airplay.
