This '57 body was the 3rd body out of McEwen's mold. McEwen kept it in the mold in case his got messed his up, then it got sold when he quit racing the car. It went through three owners before the current owner bought it in 1996 and mounted in on a car for the first time. The car is currently in Oregon.
Yes and no: back in 1988 they pulled several shells off McEwen's '57 plug, and this is one of them. I don't believe McEwen ever ran this particular shell, but I could be wrong.
If I was still in Orange County, there's a chance I could bump into him and ask. He eats at this hole-in-the-wall restaurant called The Hid'a Way. Tom McEwen, Kenny Bernstein and Gary Turner used to go there all the time.
