  • reminds me of the Contortionist

  • Could do without the blast beats...

  • makes me think of pink floyd.. in the best way that you can interpret.

  • i don't get the appeal of screaming vocals. it's just so grating and obnoxious. Especially with such a musically talented group like this.

  • @Ignore14 i think it's because it is very anti establishment. U ever seen these guys on any lateshow or heard them on popular radio? THAT is the appeal, and it sounds fucking great!

  • @Ignore14 I agree about screaming, but this is growling; very different.

  • @Ignore14 Screamed vocals carry a lot of energy and aggression, useful in punk bands or bands that otherwise have punk influence like this one. They can also convey a pained or harsh feeling, very useful in genres like black metal.

  • Intro curiously similar to First Commandment by Soulfly... I knew I'd heard it somewhere before. Took me about half an hour to figure out.

  • heard this 3 months ago, hated it. seasoned up, came back - now I'm obsessed.

  • @TAYGUNOV haha that happens man

  • I'm going to state the obvious to everyone who is not already gay for this band. THEY WOULD BE BETTER INSTRUMENTAL! They're influences are obviously way more diversified than the pigeonhole they put themselves in with the vocals. I would bet a lot of money if they made an instrumental album as brilliant as this they would double sales. This is why everyone wonders why they're not more popular. Why take bandwidth away from that kind of mastery?

  • @mammalspod They are doing exactly what they want, and have achieved endless success because of it. If they didn't want screaming vocals im sure they would have dropped them a a long time ago hahaha. Who the hell are you to make judgements like that? what a laughably foolish post

  • @mammalspod i would guess that they didnt want to unbalance the harmony of the notes in the instruments by adding pitched vocalists all the time (since most people naturally listen to someone saying something a little more than instruments) but still accepted the fact that people rarely follow or even hear of purely instrumental bands that always were vocalists-lacking

  • @mammalspod not everyone cares about greed. They can progress just fucking fine without money they don't already have.

  • nice

  • the intro part sounds like neurosis.

  • the chorus... omfg... love it

  • I like the oriental element here :)

  • This is the first time listening to this band. Not bad, not bat, anyone recommend me a starting CD? Or songs?

  • @chuckawobbly Start with Colors. Can't go wrong with Colors.

  • lol the last tags are "Why Are You Reading These Tags" anyone who reads it is a fag

  • @Highlandtuna so you're a fag? Cos you're obviously reading them?

  • NEEDS MOAR COWBELL

  • Okay,so the first part was good but why do so many heavy bands like to do this type of part in their songs like at around 1:53 where all the sudden it's like the cocaine kicked in.The drummer gets turrets and starts beating his feet and then his snare hand tries to keep up while the guitar plays one string 100x faster, and it sounds like shit, every time. please someone tell me what type of heavy music style this is called so I can try to outlaw it.I really tried to like this band... im sorry

  • @AweAttack ure ears just accustomed to such sounds. metal is an acquired taste, if u spent more time listening u can start to appreciate it more, but by no means does it sounds like shit ure ears are just pussies

  • @Kamahl777666 well buddy, i think we have different views on what "metal" is. If you consider Meshuggah, or Slipknot, or Karnivool, or Fair to Midland, or Sevendust "metal", then that is basically all I listen to. Don't sound so elitist when you say metal is an acquired taste. It just makes you sound arrogant like it's the music for "smart" people or something. Trust me, I spend a lot of time listening to metal, and I cannot appreciate the SPECIFIC part I was talking about. Address that!

  • @AweAttack Each to their own taste, respect eachother!

  • @AweAttack maybe you should try and listen to the whole album in one go. After all, the album is basically one hour-long song. Or read the music sheets. You will see the true depth of the knowledge of music they have. Each to their own, anyway, I say big ups to you for giving them a try at least. I'll grant it's not for everyone.

  • There. I made it through the entire fucking 6 + minutes. Somebody give me a fucking gold star or something. There are waaay too many better bands making better music for me to waste another 6 minutes of my life on this shit. I tried though...

  • wow this is amazing.

  • I only listen to this for the chorus to be honest. It's a cool song overall, though.

  • i like BTBAM but im sorry but i cant help but think that they steal waayyy too much from dream theater. This song is basically Home with some changed rhythms

  • @Nabster98 The beginnings are similar but you're quite naive if you think Dream Theater was the first band to play an Eastern-sounding groove at the beginning of a song

  • @Nabster98 Not true at all. You know nothing.

  • @Nabster98 yeah and Home sounds just like 46 and 2 by tool. everything has been done under the sun, shut up and enjoy the music

  • @tylervaillant actually 46 and 2 sounds like Home. just sayin

  • @Shotgunmerc TOOL doesn't sound like anybody. tool is the best band in the world. dream theater is kinda lame. i like the music and everything, but the words and vocals have no soul whatsoever

  • @tylervaillant you're an idiot. tool is good. they were influenced by Dream Theater. saying dream theater is lame makes you simply ignorant. plus you can't deny that, on the sole basis of both songs sounding middle eastern, they sound similar.

  • @tylervaillant Tool sucks.

  • @tylervaillant wow ure one of those morons who love tool soo much u think it makes u special just to even know about them, yea there ok but trust me there not the best but ure entitled to ure opinion

  • @tylervaillant Stop giving us Tool fans a bad rep you elitist prick.

  • @tylervaillant Bud, I'm a Tool fan and I don't go around preaching how other bands suck. The Irony in mainstream Tool fans is ridiculous. Half the time most Tool fans are, infact, "Tool's" themselves by sucking Maynard's dick, and taking his messages WAY to literal, while acting like they're on some higher conscious level than everyone. Get yo head outta yo ass, boy. There's fan's, and then there's mindless followers.

  • @ElectricTurkey1 I'm a Tool fan too and I agree a 100%.

  • i remember hearing this song when the album first came out and hearing the "feed me fear" part. i think i died and went to heaven from just how beautiful it sounded. now listening to this again a few years later, its still the same feeling all over.

  • The solo shreds my face off

  • The beggining of this song reminds me of egypt aha.

  • @TheBradenShow middle eastern, oh yea

  • @TheBradenShow The key remind's you of Egypt ;)

  • GAAAAH

I'm so fucking stoked to see them on Friday in Toledo!

with Job For A Cowboy :D

    FUCK YEAH

  • What's wrong with Avenged Sevenfold?? At any rate this song is badass. One of the better ones from colors in my opinion

  • this song is good but it could have used a little more cowbell..

  • @XS0780 always more cowbell. LOLOLOL

  • The beginning of this song kind of reminds of music they'd play back in the day in like Jerusalem or something.

  • @DMarie0824 middle eastern, oh yea

  • @XS0780 wat does this evn mean???

  • @XS0780 what cowbells? :O I cant hear them ..

  • @XS0780 yeah it needs MOAR COWBELL!!!!

  • man i hear such an influence from mastodon at 1:35 i know that dustie is like best friends with all the dudes from mastodon and their a huge influence on his writing abilities

  • the beginning makes me feel like I'm in Ancient Egypt. sweet!

  • the best type of music, mixed with the other best type of music. freakin awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • @HiPPoKryPtiC LOL. fag.

  • BTBAM is like..if Muse, Rush, Avenged Sevenfold, Mastodon, and Metallica all had a baby...

And then that baby killed Chuck Norris and ate his soul...

And learned how to play sick metal.

  • @Dancolehawk well played, BTBAM is like the Rush of harder metal :)

  • @Dancolehawk Avenged Sevenfold? LMFAO please...

  • @benjaminkinkaidiris Whats wrong with them?

  • @Dancolehawk Wow, your tastes are so mainstream and kinda shitty.

  • This makes me happy, I'm glad this exists.

  • That sound in the background during the drumming part at the beginning is from the game halflife?

  • @moket123 Sounds like Jak And Daxter lol.

  • This is very good. It's sad that scenekids like this band, they give it a bad name.

  • @SaturnineXTS i don't think i have EVER met a scene kid that liked this band. i would love to keep it that way.

  • @SaturnineXTS lol @ the troll

  • @SaturnineXTS so you're saying that all scene kids ruin everything. think before you steriotype.

  • i couldn't really get into them at first..but i think they're starting to grow on me

  • 2:46-3:04

  • 2:46-2:04 :)

  • god whoever clicked dislike, you can go suck a fat dick you don't know what you're talking about.

if i ever pop a baby out, i want this song to be playing to mask my pained screams. (:

  • BTBAM Dillinger Escape Plan MESHUGGAH and Veil of Maya for the Win!

  • @Hamgammy BTBAM, Cynic, Mastodon, Baroness :)

  • This song is earth shattering

  • @CylusFox04

explaing the shattering in the world.... of warcraft.

  • To me, BTBAM was a band I could have liked, but from what I'd heard, wasn't worth it. Then, I bought this album, this song played, and my mind was blown. This song made me warm up to BTBAM, now they're in my top modern metal bands \m/

  • @ZombicidalMan

Same, except for The Great Misdirect. I head Obfuscation on liquid metal and fell in love with it. and I moved to earlier albums and fell in love with the band.

  • this album is, along with alaska and silent circus, one of the best releases of this entire decade.

  • 3:46 - 4:27

  • This is the song that proved to me BTBAM does not fuck around. They make killer music with astounding variety. Impressive.

  • well i fuckin love these hard riffs and progressive stuff from btbam and also abr etc. but the part from 5:05 is just heavenly and almost brings tears to my eyes. great!

  • i really wanted to like these guys but im just not feeling it...its a shame because everyone talks so highly of them...any song suggestions?

  • @YDG777 try mordecai on for size......white walls is good too, and viridian is spectacular.... ummm....ants of the sky is good as well, and selkies: the endless obssession... hope that helped mate....but BtBAM is an acquired taste.....it grows on you after a while.... it grew on me, thats for sure, but im not a hardcore fan, i just really really like em. love the technical stuff and the overall epicness of it

  • @YDG777 i know what you mean about the whole wanting to like

  • badass song fuck yeah

  • best song ever.

  • @RyanK3mp meh, debatable, all thoiugh this is definatley an amazing and orgasmic song id have to say that selkies and white walls are better songs

  • these guys are amzing and should tour with Tool and The faceless :o

  • I was wondering if you could help me, i'm a guitar player and although i'm not into this kind of music (yes, i'm sorry) I still think i should learn something by BTBAM. But here's my problem. I only play music i like to hear, and to be honest, this song is not what i'm looking for. Do you know songs from BTBAM that sound like the solo part from Selkies (starting with the clean guitar sound), because i do like that! But I'm not looking for this

  • @Mabaals hmm the song Mordecai has a soft easy solo in it, you can watch my cover of White Walls, which is a really melodic solo

Ants of the Sky is so sick, theres so many genres in that one song theres gotta be somethni you like in it, and when you lsiten to ants of teh sky, you cant jsut skip around, you have to listen to the whole thing from start to finish, or it jsut isnt the same

if you have no luck in those songs, i hav ea few more you might like

  • @iplayguitar0217 ants of the sky is my favorite song for sure.

  • @Mabaals Laser Speed, guy. That is one you could learn.

  • @Mabaals If you have any love for delay you must check out: breathe in, breathe out

  • @Mabaals i agree with iplayguitar0217, listen to the last like, 3 or so minutes of the song white walls, its very much similar to selkies outro

  • @Mabaals go play some bullshit you like to hear....you're fuckin lame. i wouldn't learn anything I didn't want to hear like punk ass linkin park. lame dude....

  • @negativekind @negativekind I bet your mom dropped you on your head when you were a baby. Sorry... But to anwser your statement: Maybe I am lame. Am I lame for trying to listen to other genres of music? Is it lame when I want to broaden my guitarplaying? No, I think that every guitarist must try to play all types of music, and BTBAM is also a type of music. And you must know by now, saying the word lame is so lame... Thanks everyone for anwsering my question, playing white walls right now!

  • @Mabaals Check out some stuff off of the Great Misdirect. Disease, Injury, Madness has a great modern/hard rock section around the 7 minute mark that lasts for a good 3 minutes. Its an awesome solo too... not too shreddy.

  • @Mabaals swim to the moon you might like its not really like the Selkies solo but its fucking insane

  • @Mabaals any tru guitarist should like this ....cuz its not just rock but blues and jazzie ...

  • @Mabaals I understand what you mean. I used to not like music like this, then one day I was like....HOLY SHIT, I LOVE IT!!! its an acquired taste.

I also have always wanted to like music like this but just couldn't. then around my 25th birthday I just liked it. I also went though a massive personality change suddenly too. Could of also been because of all those hash brownies I ate too. fixed my personality and healed me. I dont do MJ anymore though or hash brownies. Not for a whole at least

  • @Mabaals

    Desert of Song

  • @SOADHEAD666 Or at 9 minutes into Swim To The Moon.

  • @Mabaals I used to not like this either, I was more of a death/thrash guy but one of my friends told me he got a new BTBAM album so I was like "whatever... they suck" (I had only heard 2-3 songs by them at that point). But I got in his car and he played Fossil Genera, I fell in love instantly. They grew on me very fast. Technical music like this is definitely an acquired taste, and when the taste is acquired you'll generally see it is accompanied by a personality change. BTBAM ftw!

  • @Mabaals mirrors is a good one too

  • @Mabaals If you don't like it don't even try to learn it, simple as that. I think everything other than metal sucks, and thats all I learn.

  • @LyndonKJohnson Dont mean to be a pest but I just wanted to say that it would be very dumb of him to only learn music he likes. Corey Taylor from Slipknot said it best. Its very stupid only trying one thing. Hence him being in a variety of different bands. You have to be open minded in order to be great at what you do. You think Dave Mustaine only listens to thrash? Think Kirk only listens to thrash? Of course not. Think Kurt Cobain was open minded? Nope. Thats why he sucked as a guitarist.

  • @Mabaals playing music you only like to hear isn't how you become a good guitarist. be open minded and try to learn everything. you might surprise yourself.

  • @Mabaals

check out the song Laser Speed

  • @Mabaals Hey, up until a week ago I was on your side with this one, but now I love them. Listen to Colors first to last track and give them a chance, don't shoot them down before you even know them, and u obviously don't if ur judging them off of thirty seconds of a song. Just so u know where I'm coming from I listen to Radiohead, Muse, and Pink Floyd heavily. What I'm gonna say to u is listen to the entire Sun of Nothing, its what got me into them. Just 10 minutes nd trust me u'll be changed

  • @Mabaals

As MFCrummey said, you gotta start learning some stuff you don't really care for.

I'm a bass a player and I love metal and punk, but I've learned some pop/hip hop/funk on bass. Even some Beyonce song that was in one of my bass mags. I don't like the songs really but for bass those are songs that make good use of the instruments. Just like BTBAM does with guitar (and every other instrument)

It'll help you grow as a musician.

  • @Mabaals Could suss out scale the summit

  • I saw them at The Cool Tour(:

    Veryyy good preformers, mhm.

  • My friends told me to listen to these guys, I love em already :D

  • not a big fan of carnival music

  • Everything in moderation my mother always said. Then she jumped off a bridge while on Acid.

  • wow, so amazing. going to see em tomorrow.

  • @camren666 in maryland bro?

  • @pawnshopr yeah.

    they were great :)

  • I just listened to this song for the first time (and the whole album for the first time, usually i'd listen to only Prequel to the Sequel,) yesterday and I happened to be traveling.

When I listened to this song, my uncle was driving me on a road in a desert, and I swear, this intro perfectly fit. Best song off of the whole composition, really.

  • I find that each each BTBAM album has it's own unique sound compared to any other albums by them.

  • This is a fucking masterpiece!

  • My favorite track off of Colors and one of my favorite songs overall by BTBAM.

  • best BTBAM me song

  • the only way i see any profit coming from pot being sold off the streets is in extreme bulk, and even at that, it would be hard to compete with a stable business. so in hindsight, just make it legal. the money you spend to keep someone in jail for a year could send 2 kids to college. come now, its all numbers and common sense.

  • @yourcodenameiskevin ehh, just a very typical scale. it isn't so much the entire piece itself.

  • @yourcodenameiskevin go kill yourself bro

  • feed me fear...

  • 3:47 to 4:05 Oh my fucken gosh that part is soooo fucken EPIC his background voices are insane and all of the instruments are going soo fast FUCK!!! BTBAM!!!! YEAAAHHH!!!!

  • Umm, where did the discussion about weed come from?

  • @JJTricksProductions stoners, where else does it ever come from?

  • @RyanK3mp Use your brain, we're on a music video from a kick ass band, I'm asking where the discussion about weed came from considering this is video is about music.

  • @JJTricksProductions calm down, it was a joke

  • legalize weed and tax he shit out of it. there goes the bad economy for you guys in the U.S

  • 6:10-6:23 sounds awesome, wish they played that part longer

  • btw why would your mom be reading the tags? lol

  • one day i was like super fucking stoned out of my mind, and picture scootering to another town when this song comes on. i thought i was in africa i almost died. shit was SO cash

  • @160calories dont do drugs, none of the BTBAM dudes do drugs or drink and theyre obviously doing something right

  • @iplayguitar0217 well they got a reputation on the line. Im just a teenager living my life lol

  • @160calories a life that you're making shorter adn shorter each time you do that shit =P what advantages do you get from doing drugs?

  • @iplayguitar0217 actually, marijuana is misconceived to be harmful. its actually less deadly than coffee, prevents lung cancer, and gives you a fun 2 hours. google that shit, im not kidding

  • @160calories less deadly doesnt mean anything, i could look at it liek this: coffee, wakes up people in teh morning so they can have a safe drive, marijuana leads to bad or quick decisions that havnt been thought out, such as merging into the next lane without checking the mirror, now you crash, get injured, and have a higher chance of death

and idk where you got the prevents lung cancer thing, but it actually increases the chance of getting it by 5.7 times the usual risk, thats if its smoked

  • @iplayguitar0217 no carcinogens(cancer causing agents) found in marijuana smoke= less cancer.

and il give it to you with the merging, but if you didnt have that coffee, wouldnt you be more drowsy and not look into mirrors?

  • Weed has been found less harmful and healthier than tobacco or alcohol

  • @TheBattery124 i know that, which is why i also think if america had to chose, we shud legalize marijuana and outlaw alcohol, alcohol is even more dangerous, legalizing weed would fix our economy but theyre still all dangerous

  • i agree, but weed would eventually go out of control if it was legal

  • @TheBattery124 doubt it, taxes would be put on it and prices would go way upp probably, so not as many people could buy it but the tax money from it would go to our gvmnt

  • @iplayguitar0217 still wrong cause if it cause to high they will just start buying it off the streets again

  • @TheBattery124 thats true, but whose gonna be selling it off the streets if the sellers know they can make way more money by turning it into an actual business, instead of doing it illegally, people might start growing it for themselves, but i doubt people would buy it off the street cuz noone will be selling on the street

  • This kind of thing does not happen unless the person that is stoned is naturally a moron. Marijuana does not make people stupid at all it depends on the person, if a person is stupid then a person is stupid, you cant fix stupid, just like idiots shouldnt drink.

  • @slainatnightfall sorry, i didnt know what message your replying to, is it to something i said? F the new youtube layout =P

  • @slainatnightfall cannabis is a beautiful plant

  • @iplayguitar0217 if you've ever listened to intronaut, those fuckers smoke all the time and there doing shit right too.

  • @CraterLakey i havnt listened to them but i will
