Such a smart guy, would love to have had a conversation with him..Alot of people back than were so smart. Probably cause they didn't have tv's and electronic stuff we have now they actually had a passion to study and read back than, one of reasons why I wish i lived back than!! People loved life and were so smart and brillant just like marc bolan..rip marc bolan
i had to smile to myself readingyour input....you say...back then ...i wish i lived back then...and probably they didnt have tvs and electronic stuff.....like we have now" it was the 70s my dear, not the middle ages..they had lots of electronic stuff and tv. BUT I think i can sort of understand what you mean.....thanks for the smile.:)
As touching watching this now as it was way back then - He knew his destiny was to leave this planet early - must have been so scary for him to live with - he hinted of it so many times, as if from remembering a dream. One thing is - I cant see him sitting on some cloud being quite - I bet his having a ball and driving all the angels crazy ! God bless you Marc - always in my heart.
Watched this interview several times, the ending is really eerie. Not that I think he's being prophetic - I just think, like many people when they are young, he simply couldn't imagine being an elderly man. But of course knowing what happened to him, it makes it sound really mysterious and, of course, very very sad.
WQW!!! Marc's answers were very profound! To understand what Marc was saying, you have to dig deeper and think and listen to the question and the answer very carefully, beyond even what was asked......Marc was very comfortable and confident with the questions. Just the last question unsettled him....I love you Marc ♥
@pawnsacrifice1 yep that last bit was strange, his reaction went dark n scared n then someone from the audiance shouted something cant hear what was said,be interesting to know
I bet a lot of people don't realize just how spiritual and imaginative Marc Bolan was. Before he broke out with Electric Warrior and Glam Rock, he was a hippie guru, writing folk and psychedelic ditties about Tolkien fairytales and the like.
It's a shame he slumped so far by the end of his career. My aunt recalled seeing him playing at the local pub in the late 70s! He was probably due for a comeback as well, as a seminal punk rocker before he died.
LOL when he makes that little beeping noise at 2:35, I awwed and laughed at the same time.
The ending really gets me though. Makes me wonder if he knew somewhat. You know, with his whole fear of dying young, and not learning to drive for fear of dying young in a crash. Veeeeery specific, Boley love.
And he didn't live that long but his memory will carry on forever, I was so heartbroken The day The news came that he was gone.. Your the Prettiest Star Marc. )0( r.i.p
@radwallner1994 That is only a "Heart-breaking" sentence because he died a few years later. It would not be a "Heart breaking" sentence if he was still alive today. Not wrapping his Mini round a tree..... But I am not being nasty as I love Marc Bolan....
Marc Bolan was, and still is amazing!! I wasnt lucky enough to see him as im only 18 but really wish i could have been around at the time he was, he will never be forgotten!! Also, the end of this makes me upset :/
@gracehawtin11 I was lucky to grow up in the 70s and 80s. It was a very awesome time to be a teenager through all the new stuff coming out.We saw it all. *)S was cool when thevideo games hit and MTV was the real deal! Not like it is today. I grew up in the best of times....
Wow, he is soooooo Johnny Rotten/Kurt Cobainish. He questions everything the interviewer says instead of just listening. What he's doing right here is enough to get a modern pop star kicked off their label...and this isnt even bad!!!
All the money that most of the 70`s stars made got lost,it went to pen pushers and waste of timers and the like, lets be honest, that`s another reason why when The Sex Pistols hit the scene, the corparate record labels lost their grip, but lucky for The Pistols, their classic album would never of got out if it weren`t for the top man Richard Branson. Then the indie record scene took off.
so many of his critics accused Marc of being arrogant and a braggart. I have seen so many interviews of him, and I have never gotten this impression. He always seemed matter-of-fact and able to explain himself well. He was a regular person other than being insanely talented.
People say he was egotistical and awful, but I honestly don't notice that at all. He seems to have been a very sweet individual. Maybe he was a little cocky, but so are all rock stars, especially from that era. I can't find too many stories of him where he is spoken of negatively as a person. Could anyone tell me where this misperception of his alleged arrogance comes from?
And yeah, that part where he predicted his early death... very creepy.
The look on his face when he said he would not see 30 says it all, he knew, i remember saying that i wouldn't see 30 probably a lot off people in there 20s have, but i would not have had that look.
Bolans answers are hilarious.. hes jumpin all over the place trying to get away from almost all the questions.. i love how when he gets a question he doesnt want to or doesnt know how to answer he brings up another celebrity and relates to them in some crazy vague answer.. Marc Bolan is my rockfather.
Whatever "it" is, Marc had it in spades. Intelligence, charisma, talent. He did an amazing amount of work in his short life; almost like he knew he didn't have much time. God bless you, Marc.
it was interesting to see him play gigs - back in the early 70's Boland was the king of british rock - his death was such a tragic loss - he has so much more to do and give -
I loved this interview apart from the part about the money. He totally didn't understand how he was in a privelleged position financially! That was quite embarrasing
How was he privileged by money? He had worked hard in music his whole life and was subject unfortunately to the same laws of nature as everyone else. He was tho' a unique and visionary poet/musician in a very ancient tradition which is hardly a privilege. He asked Harty to define his expectation of his/Bolans role which quite embarrassingly Harty, hardly Marc's intellectual match was unable to do. The Royal Family and their ilk are privileged by money, they did not have to work for it. Marc did.
I had the pleasure of meeting Marc in Philadelphia in 73. A truly nice, charismatic, magnetic personality and nice guy. He would give you a two-handed handshake and look right in your eyes. He is missed.
There's never been anyone like Marc Bolan since. When Marc is asked how do you think you'll be in 20 or 30 years time. Look at his expression. He' s absolutely serious when he says he doesn't think he'll live that long. Sadly it was all too true. Marc Bolan - Singer - Musician - Poet.......STAR.
I miss him sooooooooo much all the good ones gone for no reason at all, and when he said he doesn't think he will live to 50 I near passed out. I hope Johnny Depp does his life story they look so much alike I even see a little of MJ in him too it's uncanny when you analyze the his features, and hair. God Bless you Marc you are so loved and never forgotten. L.O.V.E
Very deep, Marc was a very intellegent person, and not like these days people get in to the business to just make money and get famous, Marc didn't, he did it because it was his Art :)
@shinznay he died in a car crash 2 weeks before his 30th birthday he said he was never gonna live till 30 and had a fear of driving due to thinking he was going to die so he never learnt to drive ... some people just have a sense i believe he knew !!
@shinznay He was killed in a tragic auto accident in 1977, his girlfriend was driving because he did not want to learn how to drive, to prevent an early death. His fears were true, He knew...
That's always amazed me about Marc Bolan. The knowing he wouldn't live that long. Fantastic artist. Doing it for all the right reasons. Personal gain as far as self satisfaction goes and not for the fame or money. Brilliant interview and magnetic.
I'm just glad the public library in my town has Electric Warrior ,which got me hooked on everything Marc & T.Rex ever did! What would the world without his original & amazing sound?
really great i watched the whole thing its nice to see quality musicians talk about their work i live outside of the united states or london or anywhere cool so its great for me to be able to get creative with stuff like this
Ugh, makes my stomach hurt when the subject of his living to be 50 or 60 comes up. Truly a legend, gone too soon and not given nearly as much recognition as he's due.
I can't figure out why those idiot RocknRoll Hall of Fame people have inducted mediocre hacks like Jackson Browne but not giants like T.Rex. (to name one in a very long list)
zimzum915. I agree 100%. Marc Bolan(T-Rex) influenced so many rock and rollers. One thing about T-Rex(Marc) is that they(he) didn't get popular in the states till after his death in 1977. What a shame. He was huge in Britain. Without a doubt Marc Bolan(T-Rex) should be in the rock and roll hall of fame.
I saw this interview for the first time 3 months ago.. i hadn't seen it for like 2 months so, I decided to watch it today and I got the same freaky feelings I had the first time I saw Bolan's face when he was asked about his later years..he knew it was coming, I wish he had never died. I love you Marc.. I always remember to keep a little Marc in my heart :')♥
@nayen96 wow 1st time i seen this ...always thought russel harty was ok now hes a nob and the way marc bolan reacted to that question at the end well gave me gooseies
@nayen96 Don't you think it was more a reaction to the thought of getting old ? I was like that when I was in my 20s. The thought of being say 60 never occured to me and when it did it used to send a shiver down my spine.
@marcN19 Well i guess it could've been that way, i don't know, I'm 14 I've never stopped for a second to think if I'll ever make it past tomorrow, I just believe he knew it was coming, some times you just feel it and it's a horrific thought I guess I saw that on his facial expression, the horror of not making it past your 30s, but I think your reasoning is very clever.
@nayen96 Wait till you are in your 20s and living life to the full.... trust me on this you don't ever think you are going to get old. It's like the immortal line from My Generation by The Who, "I would rather die than get old". I don't want to belittle Marc in any way, being that he was a musical genius, but he was very vain. Which is very fitting with him not wanting to get old.... and he did live life in the fast lane.
There's a really good radio interview with him on my Electric Warrior extended version CD. I wish someone would post it on youtube!
There is also another one on the Born to Boogie CD (yes, I said CD, not dvd!), where he mentions that he has joked about certain things like comparing himself to Led Zep,etc, and the newspapers would print them as if he was serious.
Once again, I have to comment on how great his smile is in this video! I love it!

@bondboy104 you said he knew he was going to die? i dont know the full story of his death.. did he commit suicide?
shinznay 1 year ago
@shinznay He was killed in a tragic auto accident in 1977, his girlfriend was driving because he did not want to learn how to drive, to prevent an early death. His fears were true, He knew...

the last part gave me goosebumps... I think people as creative as marc know when their time is about to come subconsciously, example hendrix

God I could swear that question hit him hard, I'm sure Marc knew, like a psychic, that he'd not live too long a life.
PyramidHead2000 1 year ago
That's always amazed me about Marc Bolan. The knowing he wouldn't live that long. Fantastic artist. Doing it for all the right reasons. Personal gain as far as self satisfaction goes and not for the fame or money. Brilliant interview and magnetic.

Marc Bolan was one of the greatest artists this country has ever produced. If not the best.

Ugh, makes my stomach hurt when the subject of his living to be 50 or 60 comes up. Truly a legend, gone too soon and not given nearly as much recognition as he's due.
ZombieHipHop2345 1 year ago
Harty had a hard job taming Marc - he's taken charge of the interview from the start. Bolan knew his literature.

the last thing he says... how poignant.

I can't figure out why those idiot RocknRoll Hall of Fame people have inducted mediocre hacks like Jackson Browne but not giants like T.Rex. (to name one in a very long list)
zimzum915 1 year ago 2

@maximum1954 In high-school '73/'74 Electric Warrior and Slider were some of our favorite albums. Small town in Florida! Miss Marc!

@TampaDrLove Yes, I always come back to those albums, crank them up and let them rip. Michigan.

@maximum1954 They were pretty big here in the US after the release of Get It On. That was THE party song of the early 70's in my neighborhood.

I always remember to keep a little Marc in my heart :')♥
nayen96 1 year ago 31
@nayen96 ...that is the exactly same feeling I got to when I first saw this interview.... He KNEW it all along!!! :( R.I.P we love you!!!!!!!
EvasAngel 1 year ago
@nayen96 wow 1st time i seen this ...always thought russel harty was ok now hes a nob and the way marc bolan reacted to that question at the end well gave me gooseies
covmiss 1 year ago
@nayen96 Don't you think it was more a reaction to the thought of getting old ? I was like that when I was in my 20s. The thought of being say 60 never occured to me and when it did it used to send a shiver down my spine.
marcN19 1 year ago
@marcN19 Well i guess it could've been that way, i don't know, I'm 14 I've never stopped for a second to think if I'll ever make it past tomorrow, I just believe he knew it was coming, some times you just feel it and it's a horrific thought I guess I saw that on his facial expression, the horror of not making it past your 30s, but I think your reasoning is very clever.
nayen96 1 year ago
@nayen96 Wait till you are in your 20s and living life to the full.... trust me on this you don't ever think you are going to get old. It's like the immortal line from My Generation by The Who, "I would rather die than get old". I don't want to belittle Marc in any way, being that he was a musical genius, but he was very vain. Which is very fitting with him not wanting to get old.... and he did live life in the fast lane.
marcN19 1 year ago
Aww. I love you Marc :) He's so adorable. He's so hot too.! Too bad he passed away. MARC BOLAN FOREVER!!!! <3

I love it!
