for those jeep think are unreliable... have many one all run great over 300 000km, never need to go too garage exept normal maintenance. ive own 2 toyota... engine knock when more than 250 000km and smoke need 200 000km. lol toyota is an over rated brand.... only good to put gas in floor when the ecu decide :P

Jeeps vs 4x4s vs Rav4's WHO CARES!!!!

I have a Forester modded, friends have Prados and 4x4 utes, we go to places and beaches all up east coast of Aussie, we all go together and NOBODY has been bogged yet and we have been in some hairy positions. Have even rescued so called better machines from stupid situations (correction stupid drivers).

Our cars take us and families where we want to go and we all have fun doing it. Keep exploring, do it right and screw narrow minded comments.

My 2010 ZR6 came standard 210kw and 330lbs of torque before my Motec mod.

140 BPH...try 302kw and 440lbs of torque or 0 - 60 in 4.4

That's impressive that the Rav4 is pretty decent at off-roading. Because I have a 09 Rav4 and I don't think it'll be my first choice for offroad, because it's a bit lightweight-I'd rather have a bigger SUV or a full size truck..

Because it's lightweight the Rav4 tends to not keep itself firmly on the ground, even on-road the tires screech a little with sudden acceleration at a stoplight (not purposely peeling out) or slides a little at a curve in the road.

I own a Rav and a Jeep. Both modified and both go off road regularly, the Jeep lives in the repair shop, the Rav has been the most reliable car I have ever owned..... without question.

Our Rav4 has 3.5-liter V6 that produces 269 hp. Nothing to laugh at. The 4 cylinder engine has 179 hp. Jeeps... people I know that had them had all sorts of problems.

@SPADES6o6 Only the old 4cyl's have that low of an hp rating. My 2008 Rav4 Sport V6 4x4 has 269hp and 246 ft-lbs of torque. Even with 18-inch on-road tires it's still pretty badass in off-road conditions.

Righto can all the Opposite Lock fanboys please take a breath. No one said the RAV4 is the toughest car on the road. What it IS is a cool looking car, that can handle some genuine off roading, and still feels nice to drive around town. I take my '08 to Strad, Moreton, DI and Fraser towing a trailer with 2 bikes and all the gear and have never been bogged. It comes down to how you drive too because I've seen as many Cruisers and Patrols get pulled out as I have so called "soft roaders".

What year is your Rav? I just bought a 2005 used but very good cond. The 2006 is too big (long) with 180kg added to the new bigger shape is a shame because it's trying to be a family tarago or something. So thats why I choose 2005 model and I hope they bring back the shorter chassie one day. Im having trouble finding out just what 4wd the Rav is capable of. Looks like it will do enough for my off roading.

Grand Vitara's are where it's at. This is the toughest terrain you can go over without a locking low transfer case.

No "this" doesn't "even" have a "low range tranfer case". Not that I have heard of such a thing, I have heard of a transfer case and low reange gearing but not what you have mentioned. Does it really matter if it does or doesn't anyway? I posted the vid to show the vehicle is not just a Mum's shopping car... they go pretty good off road too!

Actually, the wife owned a 1998 2 door RAV4 and I was shocked as to what it could do! It went anywhere that I could think to take it one day and we were both suprised! Quite an underestimated little car!

It has a 2" lift with oversize tyres. Overall it is about 2.5' above stock and I didn't mention anything about it having problems! The sound you can here is my front brake pads, nothing to do with the suspension.

I own a stock mitsubishi pajero pinin & it makes me laugh when i see this rav4 struggle with such terrain. Seriously get a pinin or a Grand vitara for cheap, reliable off road fun.

I recently test drove a rav4, pinin, crv. Didnt really take the crv seriously, I was surprised at the how much more capable the Mitsubishi was than the rav. I do go off-roading & can assure you there are places the pinin can go & the rav could not. Thats just my opinion. Does the Rav4 have a low ratio gearbox?

They're OK stock if you're only going to do beack driving but if you want to go harder off road then whack a 2" lift under it and some all terrain tyres and you'lol be keeping up with the rest of the "proper 4x4s".
