  • @fandediscussions. Wroooong. A true Calvinist is a follower of Christ or he has completely misunderstood Calvinism. I am a Calvinist by distinction of theology but check this out.... we give glory to God alone! Take just one of the points of the TULIP, and then you've lost the domino effect and misunderstood its purpose.

  • @WorshipInTruth. Yup, sooo true!

  • @surgicalbassist. Used to love Hillsong until i found out that they've done performances with Joel Osteen and other prosperity Gospel preachers.... really?!?!? Uggghh, ewww lost my taste for them.

  • The Bible often uses the marriage relationship as an analogy of the union of Him and his people.

  • Love it, excellent job! I like how your mind works.

  • I have always been able to find the devil within popular culture, but it has only been my recent adventure into the world of calvinism in which I have been able to find the work of God within it.

  • Too bad she's not a song writer so these are not her words

  • @juanidibuja You obviously don't know her, she wrote 17 of her number hits and all of her her songs except for covers,...

  • The doopty doopty dum parts are true Calvinism.

  • Shes a calvinist, in a non-theological way

  • This is hilarious - thanks!

  • Um...

  • Mariah Cary is a Calvinist? That must mean she is a biblical Christian!

  • Loved it :-)

I hope no one minds if I make a serious comment on your very funny video. I say, all good things, ideas, etc. have originated with God, and it's impossible to speak truth that does not sound like something from the Bible somehow in the long run.

    Great vid!

  • LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, AWESOME! FUNNNNNYYYYY! You have great humor!!

  • It's sad that a Christian cannot write something this beautiful about God.

  • @NB3K - Oh they definitely can! -- Check out just about everything written before 1900.

  • @JoelTheCalvinist haha good point

  • @NB3K check out some Hillsong stuff...and David crowder...you just aren't looking in the right places

  • @surgicalbassist I know hillsong. I played alot of their songs when I played bass in the worship team. I really like the CD Let the River Flow from Darrel Evans. I like Paul Wilbur. I love some of the old Hymns. I GREET THEE, WHO MY SURE REDEEMER ART by John Calvin is one of my favorites, Wesley's Amazing Love and can it be is my other favorite.

  • While I hold to Reform Theology, I hate to think of my self as a Calvinist. I think Calvin would hate it also. This video brought streams of tears from my eyes to think God loves me like this. I just hope and pray that we do not make this song an IDOL!

  • Anthem of Calvinism. I found a new song to worship to. Haha

  • Hottest Calvinist ever... lol

  • i couldn't stop laughing at this... this was awesome!

  • Recognizing this as a tongue in cheek video, I'll make a tongue in cheek comment: I suspect that if she knows Jesus, she is a Calvinist. Looking at her life, I sure don't see any compulsion to try to lead others to the Savior...

  • @fandediscussions - Good one :|

  • no, i am not taking this too seriously; in fact i would venture i am not taking it seriously in any degree.

  • anyone can be a Christian and not a calvinist.

  • @roaringwaterbay - anyone can be a runner and not an Olympian :)

  • @JoelTheCalvinist gee your a "wit" too. thanks for your serious response.

  • What's a calvinist?

  • @MsGood2God - Someone who loves God.

  • @JoelTheCalvinist Okay. I'm not a Calvinist but I LOVE God.. More details?

  • @MsGood2God - You must be a Calvinist!

Calvinists believe that God is totally in control and knows everything, man is sinful, and grace through faith is a wonderful thing for people like you and me because it is the only reason we are saved.

Most Christians say they believe that, but I like to think that I actually do. And since I believe those things fully, I am tagged as a Calvinist.

    God bless!

  • @JoelTheCalvinist I love God, but I was a devil-worshipper. I still don't TOTALLY believe God is in control.

  • @MsGood2God - Then who is? Do you love the God of the Bible? or a different god?

  • @JoelTheCalvinist I personally think that some stuff in the Bible is a load of crap. Yes, I read the entire Bible long ago. Took me 4 months. LOL Let's just say I believe there is a man looking after us. HE created us and we are his children, he is our father.

  • @MsGood2God - Sorry that the Bible doesn't meet your standard. I pray that God opens your eyes to the truth.

  • @JoelTheCalvinist The truth? The bible is not the truth.

  • @JoelTheCalvinist

So since is what your doctrine teaches you let us just brush aside Matthew 1:19,Genesis 6:9,Luke 23:50,Mark 6:20, Luke 1:6, 2 Peter 2:7,Luke 2:25, Hebrews 11:4,Job 1:1,1:8,2:3 and finally Matthew 13:17. right? oh and Romans 6;23

  • Funny!! It does make sense Joel!

  • wow!

  • ROFL

    doopty doopty dum

    Would Romans 8:28 apply here?

Rom 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

  • haha! 1:45, "perhaps she is speaking in tongues."

  • damn real talk, you revealed some stuff to me in this song i didnt recognize before. thankyou.

  • this song is a jam!

  • HAha!

  • Come on guys...Learn to laugh a little...don't take things so seriously...you gotta admit that it is a cool link up between the doctrine and the lyrics

  • I'm confused, Simone56--what part of the song is talking about calvinism or Grace? The song is about Mariah's love and affection for her man not about God's unconditional "agape" love for His saints. The song is about Eros (excuse the misspelling) love.

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ah ah ah aha ha ,lol.

You might have too much time on your hands.

  • I was trying to listen to this all seriously and then your video screen comment: "Maybe she is speaking in tongues :) " popped up and I started to laugh

    Thanks for sharing this :D

  • this is great! oh this is great

  • If she were really a calvinist, we wouldn't have used our free will to leave God, he would have been sovereign over that decision all along.

    Just saying.

  • Dude, this is great! Your rock!

  • I sent this to our preacher and maybe we can print this and paste it over "there is a fountain" in our hymnal.

Just Kidding, but this was funny.

  • I can't stop laughing!!

  • get a life

  • thank you!!! this is GREAT!

  • hahaha this is awesome!

  • I swear to you God told me this a month ago. There is no way I can shake him. Praise God.

  • Fantastic video. Never thought I'd enjoy MC's music

  • so funny!

  • That was absolutely hilarious.

  • Joel, you are just too funny. Hilarious...

  • "Perhaps she is speaking in tongues"

    Rofloooool.

  • BRILLIANT!

  • Who would have known? Even MC is a 5 pointer.

  • This is a great video. Seeing how it perfectly matched with God's grace really moved me but I'm not sure that mariah is a christian. I believe that the entertainment industry is run by satanists and that most celebrities are satanists. I want to point out those doopty doopty dum parts. The video says to disregard them but little back ground chants in songs like that are believed by many to be spells or subliminal programming. Is doopty doopty dum code for your doops your doops your dumb.

  • VERY, VERY, VERY FUNNY.

    God Bless

  • Freaking hilarious! Well done. I feel like you could do this with many other songs...

  • Yeah, I've got a Boyz II Men idea in the works...

  • one of the best things ive ever seen on youtube, hands down. awesome! well, done, Joel the Calvinist ::)

  • I like the song. But I never would have thuoght she was a Calvinist.

  • She's not singing about God, and she most CERTAINLY isn't a... *holds back vomit* Calvinist.

  • Go figure.......

  • For some reason, this song always stuck in my head. I think I know why now. :)

  • Grand, just totally grand.

  • actually I would respond to the captions that yes, the "doopty doopty do" is "speaking in tongues" in the same sense that the lyrics are Calvinists.

The more I watch this video, the more I like it. This is a sublime piece of art, both the Carey song and the captions JoeTheCalvinist put on it.

    I'm digging this man.

  • shes trying to relate to all the fat type girls, super sweet lies of nonsense living of a lie,its barbaric. Its str8 out of the book of the ded.

  • It has nothing to do with the rewritten book called the bible book.

  • The Bible has not been re-written

  • many many times. Its even part of the koran.Stories told over and over. Not to say there isnt a human spirit, because there is,i guarantee it.This rich/poor 3rd world world is fkd up,thats all im saying, too.

  • I know my history, Muhammed nicked bits of the bible, and re-told corrupted versions of them in his writing of the quran, the Bible itself has not been corrupted.

  • I found God in "Finding Nemo". So, I completely understand.

  • I think Mariah Carey and Calvinism go well together: godless music and a form of godliness theology.

  • hahaha

    yeah sure

  • says the kjv-only modalist!

    hmmmm. :)

  • I can't stop laughing. That made my evening, thanx.

  • Took me a while to understand the joke...mostly cuz I was reading the comments.

  • Calvin is coming to get you!

  • She is definitley irresistable....

But she brings out my Total Depravity...

  • that's hilarious.

  • I was convinced by the doopty dooop!

  • Oh come on! You can use the doopty doopty dum parts to fill in for all kinds of scripture or writing from J. Calvin, Spurgeon, Pink, etc. :)

  • I really don't care for Mariah's music but this really made my day. Thanks! :)

    Soli Deo Gloria.

  • LOL!! GREAT! that was funny bro God bless ya Soli Deo Gloria!

  • This made my night

  • hahahahahahahaa the highlight of my day definitely :P

  • Dude awesome YES thank you! =)

Now go look for apostleship in Bolt, it's totally everywhere! ;)

  • Aaaahahahahaaaa

    Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

....so that men will be without excuse! (Romans 1:20)

  • She didn't mention Total depravity???

  • lolololol my favorite singer! spell check though - she love's has no apostrophe lol ... great job lol applause hehehehe

  • loves doesn't need an apostrophe... it's a verb.

    :)

  • And I thought I was bad reading into songs! This is classic dude! Good work!

  • LOL Hilarious dude! God Bless

  • it's do do do do dom :D

  • lol

  • lol!!!!!!!!

  • LOL!!! Hilarious!

  • so stupid!

  • Dog this jawn is sooo funny I almost started crying lol

  • Dude,.....now im gonna start like worshipping when i hear this song,..wow lol

  • Ya know, emergent and seeker-sensitive churches love to use secular songs as 'worship'songs. And Mark Driscoll IS Calvinist. This would work perfectly.

  • Grant it that I love this song, and it brings back memories of fun filled summer nights on the beach down in Florida, I think this song is about an old fling of Careys. Maybe I'm wrong, but I love your interpretation.

God Bless ya Joel. You're a good guy!

  • LOL.....I constantly find myself changing contemporary Christian lyrics in my head so they line up with scripture and actually have spiritual value.

  • Wow this too funny. good stuff. but you listening to mariah kinda making me think. lol

  • Oh yeah, and my secular song, that seems "Calvinistic" would be Gomez' "How we operate."

  • I've always found that to be true with many works of art. As Christians that's why we can watch films like Narnia, or LOTR, and see Godly themes. Or, in this case hear them in music. But, try and explain that to an unbeliever and they're like: "uh did we see/hear the same thing?" Not that we should start trying to run to "gutter" art to find the Jesus in it, but I think the Holy Spirit does bring out truth that His people will "see" and unbelievers won't even realize they created in the art.

  • lol, this song actually becomes kind of beautiful when you interpret it like that

  • hey joel ive noticed that in alot of songs too. you should give depeche modes "No good" a listen to aswell tell me what you think

  • Joel, Thank you! This is hilarious!!!

  • Haha, also check out Puff Daddy's "My Best Friend". Whoever wrote that song has a copy of Chosen By God on the shelf.

  • good video, but i am not convinced that she is a calvinist... she only touches on 2 of the 5 points of calvinism (irresistible grace and perseverance of the saints)

    :)

  • Hahaha... this is a cool Video. ^^

So can we also say now that the American Idol who sang this is also a Calvinist?? Love it!!

  • brilliant

  • this is hilarious

  • Many Christians have to interperet love songs such as this one as spiritual because we no how ridiculous it is to believe some of today's "love songs" applying to romantic relationships in a broken world. Very nice video, I was once listening to a bunch of old cheesy love songs one day and it was like I could hear God speak to me through them all.. very emotional experience. Concede by Sister Hazel would be a great video as well.

  • John 10:27

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;"

  • I find myself alays spiritualizing songs also. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

  • John 10:27

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;"

Maybe its God whispering in your ear?

  • Haha.. this was great!

  • This is probably my favorite of all your videos!

  • You're sweet.

  • You cracked me at the tongues part. XD

... Do I suspect more doctrine randomly finding itself in a Mariah Carey song than is in MOST of what the modern American church sings? :P

  • That was funnier than the "I think my wife's a calvinist" video. Thanks for that.

  • Thanks!

  • The tongues joke was DEFINITELY my favorite part. Good job =]

  • That fits surprisingly well with Calvinism ... "Perhaps she is speaking in tongues" LOL

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why would you waste so much time comparing a secular artists lyrics to Bible teachings? Don't you know the Devil himself knows the scriptures thoroughly? Don't be surprised then when you see secular artists speaking truths here and there!

  • This is a stretch. I appreciate your humor, so let me jump in with mine, there are charismatic calvinist, so the doopity doots could very well be tongues!

She might be a calvinist, but she dresses like an arminian!

  • THats nice I meant to type nice

  • wow thats bice bro

  • Funny! Listening to Mariah Carey is truly painful, though. Remember real R & B? Lord, this woman is a waste!

  • you are so weird to think of this haha. Why were you listening to Mariah Carrie anyways? haha

  • HAHAHA!!!

    Thanks for posting =)

    ^__^

  • Prodigal son.

  • Actually I think she is non-denomination you should here her song in her new album E=MC2 "I wish you well" I think. She uses scripture.

  • If a text out of context is a pretext, then it follows that the beginning and end with the too -doo - doo -doo - doo - do bits show the central theme is to doo! Surely! :0)

  • Interesting.

  • hooo!! wow! lol..this is sooo funny!! nice job joelthecalvinist!!

  • I forgot to add: clever idea though!

  • Sounds more like a stalker? maybe doopty, doopty dum is the point!

  • that doopty... means walking away, but is never gonna leave your side.

  • haha. This is funny.

  • Clever!! Nice job!! lmao

  • well played, sir.

  • Hahhahahahahhahah!!! XD This is so hilarious!

... and you are an idle! :p LOL

  • Haha! Hilarious!

  • Boy don't you know you can't escape me (OMNIPRESENCE!)

  • OMG, so funny! :D

  • LOL! This is very clever. Nicely done.

  • Thanks, man.

  • Joel, why did you keep saying to disregard the doopty, doopty dum's? There could be some esoteric meaning there. Unlocking it may reveal the secrets of the universe.

  • I think more research is due here... I think you may be on to something!

  • LOL! Let me know what you come up with.

  • Shes a Christian.

  • Yes, I know. I believe she dedicated her very 1st album to The Lord. Although, I think there is still more to these doopty, dum's than meets the eye. The only thing I came up with is, if you type doopty, dum's in a search engine. Joel's video comes up. Maybe it is just that simple.

  • WHAT IS A CALVINIST???

  • This is kind of a joke... but to answer your question a Calvinist is a christian usually distinguished by their belief in a specific doctrine of Grace, characterized by a list of beliefs making the acronym TULIP.

I see you are a Mariah Carey fan, so don't take this too seriously.

  • yeah ok ;)

  • @teom44 - A Calvinist is a person who chooses to be identified as a follower of John Calvin before being identified as a follower of Christ... Not that all Calvin's points are wrong (depending on what you mean when you say them, I personally ascribe to 4 out of 5 of them), but it's definitely a misguided priority.

  • All this time I thought a Calvinist was a Christian who knows that God is totally sovereign over all His creation, and that salvation was totally by Grace alone. I even thought that the term "Calvinism" was just a nickname for five points of doctrine, and that before the FOLLOWERS of James Arminius came along, we were just Christians! So now we have to put up with boneheads saying, "a person who chooses to be indentified as a follower of Calvin". So, thanks for setting me Straight!
