I remember this too, initially feeling dissapointment at not hearing one of the dookie songs, but then being totally fulfilled by hearing a new song that rocked just as hard
Billie was only......20......i think here! Not a bad voice, must be said. These days it really is brilliant. And considering the length of the gigs they have.....and the amount.......it's amazing how good shape it's still in. Green Day live 2009 and 2010 were 2 of the best gigs i have ever been to in my life. Just brilliant.
This got me into Green Day. Basket Case had been on MTV Europe all summer and I liked it, but I wasnt totally sold. Then I saw this and I was like "woah". So I bought Dookie, then 1039, then Kerplunk looking for this song. When my search fell short, I assumed it must have been a new song. A year later when I saw the tracklisting of Insomniac. I was pissed. "Lost Inside Myself" as it had been labelled on all bootlegs wasnt on it. On release day when I pressed play I was pretty fucking happy
@kingjd182 They made a lot of money and the 90's ended. I think their next album might actually be cool though because they're recording it to tape with this new thing called the CLASP. The end of tape killed music in my opinion.
i liked green day when i was in high school back then. though i remember "basketcase" being played to death and i think i actually hated green day for a while because of that song. i liked insomniac though.
@MrPrimussucks123 There's an english toiler maker company called "Armitage Shanks" BJ saw that name when Green Day were recording the BBC sessions in June 94. Possibly, they change the name a bit to avoid legal problems.
BJ felt that his life was going to the drain, thats why the name.
I remember watching this live freshman year in college. Everyone was expecting them to play their "new" hit single Basketcase (they even played it during rehearsals) but in true punk fashion, they played not only a song that was not a hit, but a song that was not even released ANYWHERE yet.
@Greenday48078 pffft, lol, you're kidding, right? Yeah..the old bright neon pink pants with neon green shirt ensembles mom used to put me in for school. Side ponytails. Crimping your hair. British Knights soes....what the hell were ppl thinking???
@Greenday48078 I was born in '82 and started listening to Green Day in junior high...they've always been my favorite...as I always say "I grew up with Green Day" BJA is just a mere 10 years older than me to the year...sorry 'bout your luck, damn you missed out on neon clothes too! lol and slap bracelets! and NO DOUBT and BRAD NOWELL ____my song for u "Born Too Late" by The Clarks.
i understand they "matured" when they wrote american idiot, but they lost almost everything i love about them, they have to be my top five bands of all time here, theyre energetic, have the talent and look like they have fun.
Now Tre plays with that stupid set up of 1 rack and 2 floor toms
Mike plays that dumb squire throwback
and to be honest blue has to be the coolest punk rock guitar.
@jimibezwik I have to say, the 21st CB drum kit of Tré is the best that he used. It sounds a lot better than all the previous kits. For the other side, Fender basses sucks. I always will love the old Gibson G-3
@greendepent yeah dude it sounds great, but the fast fills he does, it would've been easier to keep the 2 racks. Now he has that big gap, i mean he plays the kit flawlessly, but the theory behind it is just not logical.
@jimibezwik I guess that is a matter of habit on Tré Cool. From the early days, he used that kind of drum. In dookie era he tries to use 2 racks, but it seems that he didn't like it too much.
@greendepent J.A.R, and Good Riddance was also writen in 1994 as well as many others. Billie said a lot of the songs were released on later albums because at the time they would'nt fit on the particular album at the time, but later the songs seemed like it would fit hence why they were released later.
@Standard420247 Yeah, but nobody can see that performance until the release of GD rock band. And I'm taking about a real performance in a gig, or public performance.
As far I know, the very first song from Insomniac played live was Westbound Sign, in a gig from Lollapalooza 94, 'round June.
@jrd615 Thing is everyone was led to believing they would play Basket Case. Unlike most bands, they did not go "We're playing a new song tonight" "Green Day's going to play a new song from their next albuim which will come out only a year after" . Nope
@kokegdinsomniac came out in 1995, but billie wrote armatage shanks in 1994 right after dookie came out. so in typical green day fashion, they played it, rather than basket case or whatever else they were supposed to play.
@kokegd they wrote a lot of songs before they came out. Good Riddance came out in like 97 officially. , Billie Joe wrote it in like 94. Same goes for Haushkina which may have been even earlier.
@kokegd GD had a lot of written songs before the release of every single record, that came out years later in other records. Armatage Shanks came out in 1995, not in 1996 and anyway in 1996 they looked completely different than in this show, so this can´t be 1996.This took place during "Dookie Tour"
ah the 90's, the days when everybody and their mother wasn't standing there like zombies video taping a live concert with their damn cell phone. people fuckin rocked out back then.
@dembkomj I know rirght? it's so sad. i went to there concert last year with my frend and we were the only ones jumping the whole time. everyone else was just trying to video-tape. it's stupid to cuz unless you hav a rlly nice fone with good sound quality and ur rlly close u get nothing but lights and static.
@claydongreenday Well, I think that if you can record decently, do it, but if not, please, put your cellphone in your pocket and still frames in your mind.
Anyway, actually just the videocameras and some digicams can record in a good way. All cellphones sucks. All of them
they musta changed the lyrics becasue they keep saying im a loner in a claustrophobic mind and on the album they only say tht thelast time and rest of the time they say I'm a loner in a catastrophic mind
90s music was fucking amazing. I feel sad with all the shit we have to put up with today...the industry is a fucking joke. There's only a select few decent bands.
@1994evol: Probably, if I'm not wrong, Basket case was the single in that time. But in that time, some bands liked to prank MTV, so they play a new song. I wondering how was the faces of the MTV producers, and the crow who expected Basket case xD
