I believe this is one of the older recordings. Great stuff. Good to see the low brass section is still intact. That french horn player looks like Tim Tebow, lol.
Just a few clicks slow for my taste: the reexpositions are a little clunky at that tempo. I love the stylistic flow of the episodes, though. Hoo! Go CB. =)

i wish they had used more of an echo chamber for this piece, great job overall but it wouldve came out better if they were in a more open room

If I wanted to buy this for my quintet, where would I go to acquire it?

I think brass instruments are ideal for fugues

canadian brass always sounds too brassy- too shrill

@DiVeronica uh.... brass...
losingitrush 1 year ago
@losingitrush you're obviously not a brass player- or even an aficionado if you don't know what I mean.
DiVeronica 1 year ago
@DiVeronica i am a texas allstate french horn player. im part of the top 1.7% of texas or maybe even the country. i think i know my stuff. lol.
what u might have meant was that their tones were all bright.
losingitrush 1 year ago
@losingitrush No- "bright" is definitely not the correct term for it. Shrill works perhaps best, if "brassy" confuses some.

I love the brass when it plays a fugue in g minor like that.
I'd write one for 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones and tuba.

This sounds beautiful. Just a little to slow personally.
Zeke8762 1 year ago
@Zeke8762 Agreed. There's a faster version on the Baroque Brass CD.

You have to love brass renditions of fugues, giving each voice a unique sound creates an extraordinary extra dimension in the music.
