I have a 08 TL, just bought it 2days ago. I really love the car, but hate that there is no ipod thing. I want to try it , but it's a lease will I be cool to try it?
Make sure you have the latest version of the firmware from Peripheral. It's available from their website for free and you can easily flash your PXAMG via the USB port on the unit by connecting to your laptop.
yo is that little thing near the shifter a usb port?? i was thinking thats what it is, but couldnt get it open.. and where do you get the new updated disc for the nav system (if you know)
Ok i HAVE to find out how you did that. I have a 2005 TL and the dealership had no idea that it was possible...in this day and age ANYTHING is possible...what did you use?
The product is made by Peripheral and is called PXAMG; also labeled the media gateway. It allows you to have ipod integration and keep everything stock - xm, nav, etc.
In a nutshell, you plug the PXAMG into the back of your car's stereo where the XM radio harness plugs in, then you take your original XM harness and plug it into the special connector provided. You get ipod control and you get to keep your XM radio, see the text on screen, and control the ipod from anywhere.
Have you had any issues with your Peripheral adapter?
I picked this up for my 05 TL Navi. I thought it was great at first. Then I realized that my phone wouldn't connect, the AM/FM wouldn't display the correct stations, the voice commands wouldn't work, and the disc am/fm xm buttons. It doesn't happen all the time and it isn't all of those problems at once, but I uninstalled and I am going to return it. Did I maybe get a defective one? As anyone experienced any problems like this?
There are known issues with this product for owners of '04 through '08 TLs. The problems are different for the '04-'06 generation owners than for the '07-'08 generation due to the fact that the newer Acura TLs have XM nav traffic.
The issue I have is common, and that is the unit will freeze the radio for several minutes upon starting the car. The XM won't work, AM/FM won't work, CD player won't work, etc. The problem usually doesn't affect the nav system itself or the hands free link
I have this item for my 05 TL Navi as well. No issues with the phone connecting but did have issues with buttons not working and even navigation voice not working. However, if found out that after turning on the car or radio you must let it cycle through the warning screen without touching anything. Drive about 45 secs. or so and it works fine. I love it and couldn't be happier.

That little area next to the shifter is where you put your key in case you need to shift out of park and you can't get the ignition to turn on.
You can get updated discs for the nav system from Acura or check on ebay.
