  • oh my god EVERY memeber of my family thought it was rintin tin i had to explain it so many times lol!!!

  • you guys have never heard of the tintin comics? they're only some of the most popular and revolutionary comic books in european history

  • @robinthegrape Heh, yeah, but that's like going up to a fourteen-year-old and asking them if they know who Orson Welles is. Not exactly part of their pop-culture.

  • it's actually a based on a Belgian comic.

  • I thought this movie was excellent

  • the characters actually resemble the original comics, but interestingly enough the villian and captain haddock look just like spielberg and jackson so i am sure they just used themselves and got away with it.lol

  • I saw it and it was great. I liked how it had more guns and drunk people than any ph movie I've ever seen. This is not a kids only movie, and it's great. 10X better if you've read the comics.

  • Good review. You guys totally need to read the Tintin comics

  • cowboys and aliens was alright

  • THE HOBBIT trailer! :)

  • my sister and i just saw Tin Tin for free at one of our theaters near us and it is such a great film. the 3D was good but unfortanttly we had to sit right up front so it ws hard to watch but i give it a 4.3 out of 5 schmoes

  • Jonny Quest

  • I vote Jazz hands.

  • I loved this movie! I'm from Belgian so I know the source material well. I read the comics and watched the cartoon as a kid. i'm glad you loved tintin. I was a bit wouried about that. I hope it wins a oscar but I know americans love Rango but I still hope tintin wins :)

    thanks schmoes! great review! :)

  • 4:54. "A World Beyond Imagination" That would be Reality, yes?

  • I did an interview with Peter Jackson a while ago and not long after he invited

me to the premiere of Lord of the Rings- Return of the King in Wellington New Zealand. I got to go on the red carpet and I even had photos with some of the stars like Andy Serkis. They are both really awesome guys and it was a day I've never forgotten.

  • Captain Haddock! I know this comic book is not very known in the States but is a good time (not as good as Asterix though)

  • hahaha.....this movie came out first in europe and i loved it ....happy me :D

  • Tin Tin looks like Chris Nolan

  • now i want to go and this film now.

  • Kuifjeeee

  • Normally movies comes out way before in the US, but in Norway it came out in October :D

  • @dpthomas37 Don't worry, I was only teasing. I'd never boo the schmoes, I love the schmoes.

But I don't know who the hell decides such things because if what you say is true then this movie comes about a month later then in Europe. Ridiculous.

  • Heh, that lull you were talking about takes up about 12 of the 62 pages of the original comic. Plus it's a pretty important part of the story, so I guess it'd have been wrong to scrap it. ;)

  • elli's reaction to kristains schmoe rating was a couple seconds late. lol

  • You guys remind me of the Miguel and Tulio pair from the Road to Eldorado.

  • Written By Steven Moffat. Who writes Doctor Who, which is awesome

  • Motion capture shouldn't be put into the hands of robert zemekis. Characters always looks like zombies.

  • Love you guys!

  • My friend look like tintin he is also half British and he has the hair

  • Dude you look like you've just had a child

  • Is this movie based up on a television series?

  • @teagz1611 no :) it's is based on the Belgian comic of "les Aventure de Tintin"

But they did make some animated movies a few years back :)

  • @kwaikat Oh okay thanks :) i defiantly remember watching something with Tin Tin in the title in french!

  • Boo the review is so damn late boo...

But to all you people yes this movie is awesome. WATCH IT. No! What are you still doing here after this review is finished. Get out there and watch it! NOW!

  • I'm so happy they finally brought Tintin to the states! :) Very good movie~loved it

  • Ill def check it out guys. Sounds just like wha I need right now

  • Excellent review Schmoes! Great to see Kristian back, and Mark, you kept the "ship afloat" well these past few reviews. See what I did there?

  • It was also a cartoon based on the comics, and it was a damn good cartoon, me being a fan and read the books and watched every episode of TinTin. I have to say this movie is definitely epic! 5/5 for me...

  • I knew you guys would love it. The movie was out last month in my country and it was awesome...

  • It is based on a comic! The TinTin comics are huge in Europe. I remember watching the animated series (based on the comics) when I was little.

  • Ok good that scared me. You guys are warriors seeing shitty movies like bucky Larson, FUCKING SHITTY ASS Green Lantern (god I hate that movie), and new years eve. You guys deserve medals lol. But anyway TinTin looks good but I'm seeing Sherlock Holmes 2 this weekend

  • tintin looks so weird with eyes

  • TiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnntttttiiiinNNNNNN!!!!! Sorry, I'm just a huge fan of the comics and can't wait to see it. But I'm especially glad that you guys gave your stamp or approval to this film. Now I really can't wait to see it.

  • Will definitely see this!

Good to see Kristian back with Mark Ellis' flying circus.

  • Nice guys! Completely agree. Serkis can do no wrong.

  • Simpsons showed me about Tin Tin. Great review chums.

  • pan left dammit!

  • @tobylevins Sorry about that...just hard not being the center of attention anymore. -Ellis

  • do you guys think this will be better than War Horse?

  • I saw it, and im not gonna lie, it was sooo boring, too long and pretty dumb. I realize they tried with the character development, but it was literally one pointless action scene after the next and it should've ended a LOT sooner than it did. Good mo-cap, but after the desert scene, that shouldve ended it soon but then we had that nonense with the fat lady singing and the crane at the end I was ready for that movie to be OVER. 2/10 stars not my kinda film and I loved Raiders even transformers 3

  • Great to have Kristian back in an official review but I have to say that the great Mark Ellis did very well in his absence. It is not surprising that Tin Tin has gotten such good reviews since both Spielberg and Jackson are behind the project. Two Academy award winning individuals coming together for a film, there is a good chance it will be good.

  • almost every time I watch a review, there has been 303 views...wierd

  • @deafandstupid6 Haha...some sort of glitch recently. Then all of a sudden it'll jump to a couple thousand. (Unless some sort of pestilence hit Schmoeville...naaa)

  • I couldn't care less. Only 9 days left until something that matters!!!!!

  • @grindhouse141 Hmmm...sounds like someone is anticipating a certain David Fincher flick??

  • Love the Journey shirt there, Mark. Also, TINTIN! I am totally envious that you guys get to watch it way before we do in Australia! :(

  • @nxleepresents Australia will get it soon enough...just don't stop believin' (sorry, couldn't resist!) -Ellis

  • Good review guys and welcome back Kristian!

  • I thought that it was absolutely enchanting. The story was well thought out and the humor sprinkled throughout the movie was much appreciated. It is a must see even if you have no idea who Tintin is!

  • Thank God they haven't made a movie outta Rin Tin Tin. Knowing hollywood they would have had him talking. Like we need another talking dog movie.

  • Just curious how long have you two known each other.

  • @LionHeart99999 Like Wolverine and Sabretooth...we've been around since the 50 states were 13 tiny colonies. Or maybe it just feels that way?

  • I'm pretty sure I just played this on my ps3(uncharted 3)...the settings are mostly the same and the story is pretty close

  • @volcomstone1998 One difference: This story was written in the '30s and '40s. ;)

  • I loved the cartoons :D

  • How did this and New Year's Anus both get 4/5 Schmoes?

  • @DarkSpartan92 Whoa, whoa...just because we let a guest star live with giving NYE 4/5 doesn't mean WE agree. I gave NYE 2/5 and Kristian never made it to the theater. Lucky guy. -Ellis

  • @schmoesknow That explains not to bring her back lol at least get someone who can back it up

  • erhm... "motion capture" movies barely use motion capture at all, what you see is mostly keyframe animated, they use motion capture for reference

  • I remember TinTin as a cartoon. They uses to show it on HBO back in the 90's and I would watch! Can't wait when I finally get to see this film!

  • verry much looking forward to this movie! was the 3d good? id think so becousr of the sand, water and other?

  • @hunter12555 3D was good (of course, we also got to see it in IMAX 3D). Should be a good time regardless of how dimensions you get.

  • schmoes, how was the 3D? im very much on the fence about it and like to know if i should spend the extra couple bucks for it. be nice for a response. thanks guys!!! congrats kristian once again!!

  • @OneForTwoFilms We saw it in IMAX 3D, so it was pretty incredible. I'd say it's one of the better 3D flicks to check out if you like that technology (I'm usually cool with 2D). I think you'll definitely enjoy it either way! -Ellis

  • Tintin's hair I just kept thinking of There's Something about Mary styling gel

  • @cinesuerte1 And his dog does kinda look like Mary's neighbor's dog...hmmm...

  • @cinesuerte1 Tin Tin doesn't use gel because in one of the first books the wind pulls up hair and it stays like that forever.

  • I really want to see this.

  • I'm pretty excited for the film, still don't know what its about..and to be honest I'd like it like that because that's what movies are about.

  • Ha, good to know this movie is good. Lately I've become more and more interested in this movie and I am now sure to go see it. Also, glad to see Harloff back, the reviews weren't quite the same without him.

  • @schmoesknow. My sister is expecting a boy in just a few months. I'm very excited to be an uncle.

  • Looks to be an awesome movie! Can't wait!!

  • Hey good to you the two of you together. Great review guys and my review will be up for this today too

  • YESS I CARE ABOUT TINTIN! AFTER TINTIN FINALLY CHANGES MY CHILHOOD, THIS TIME IT WILL BE FUCKING AWESOME!

  • Guys ... it's Captain Haddock! Have to say, good Scottish accent from Andy Serkis!

  • 1 person doesn't know movies like the Schmoes do!!

  • My dad gave me the comic books to read cause he loved but I didn't like them that much :/ But the movie looks pretty good

  • It's nice to see a positive review from non-Tintin fans, for me, Tintin is part of my being and this movie completely lived up to my expectations, hopefully it will catch on in the U.S.A! You guys could've provided a bit more background into the source material, but the review is positive, so it works for me. Good job, I'm glad you liked the movie!

  • Hi guys, I really like your show and everything but there is something that bothers me every time I watch a review. I really don't like 5 point scales, I find them hard to understand. I end up having to multiply your score by 2 to make it into a 10 point scale for me to understand the score. Why don't you use a 10 point scale? The decimal points are even more confusing too.

Other than that I really like the show

  • I'm really excited to see this. You know, Herge, the author of the comic said he really liked Radiers of the Lost Ark!

  • Mark...what is that shit all around your mouth?

  • @89cadi It came free when I saw Alvin and the Chipmunks by myself.

  • @schmoesknow Ahhhhh....did you make the beast with 2 backs with a chipmunk?

  • It has been out in europe for a while and I loved the movie. I read all of the comics as a kid and they are classic over here! The movie did the comic more than enough justice and I am very happy that this film was a huge succes!

Schmoes, please do yourself a favour and go find the comics! They are fantastic!

  • TINTINTINTINTINTINTINTINTINTINTINTINTIN!!!!!!!!!!! YES! super excited! I've read almost all the comics this summer through fall. I brought them to school and was like "TINTIN!" I have become a big fan of Tintin as you can clearly see and so glad you both liked it. Oh and btw funny you mentioned Peter J. As Haddock because he actually live acted as Haddock during a mo cap scene with cgi snowy. It was great. Search for it on YouTube. It's awesome! TINTINTINTINTINTINTIN!!

  • @DjHamHam411 I'm going out on a limb and guessing that you're a bit excited for this one? Haha, thanks for knowledge! -Ellis

  • @DjHamHam411 Oh yeah! :P I still want to see the full footage of Jackson dressed as Haddock. The fanboy. ;)

  • Nice shirt Ellis, as always.

  • @Braly5 Streetlights...people...oooooooohhhhh!

  • WhAts with the "EVH" thing in the background all the time? It's been bothering me

  • @justWatchin97 Huge Van Halen fan...that's the box my magic Eddie Van Halen kicks came in. -Ellis

  • Great review I'm pretty excited for this.

  • the baby daddy is back!!! i personally like the jazz hands. cant wait to watch this.

  • @slashermoviereviews Everyone happy that Harloff is back...3 people happy about the jazz hands. And we're two of them, Slash. -Ellis

  • Tbh I'd rather watch the TV Series of TinTin which I thought was much better compared to this movie which is really just episodes of the TV series put together for a movie with a bit of editing.

  • welcome back Kristian!!

  • Indiana Jones was inspired by the adventures of Tintin

  • @xLDH1109x Yes, Tintin and the Scrooge McDuck comics by Carl Barks.

  • I read every single Tintin comic book as a kid. The problem I found with this movie is that because the comic is quite wordy and contains certain aspects which take time to develop, the story seemed a bit chunky at times and I also found the pacing a bit off. What I did enjoy about the movie was just about everything else. The MC was insane. The attention to the details was definitely something I as a fan can appreciate so all in all, I'm very happy with it and I'm glad they're making sequels :)

  • wanna see it

  • I can't wait to see this. Loved every trailer, love the cast, love the motion capture technology.

  • @schmoesknow. I'm so excited for this movie. It kinda reminds me of the Uncharted games.

    Two questions for you guys:

1.) Have you played Uncharted 3 yet?

2.) Since Tintin is another motion-capture movie (not made by Zemeckis) what is your favorite mo-cap movie by Zemickis and which is your least favorite?

  • I remember reading Tintin comics and watching the cartoons since I was a kid and I loved this movie. I think Spielberg and Jackson did an excellent job. Also the nods to Hot Fuzz, Jaws and Indiana Jones were great. The characters where as they should be and the 3D, which I usually avoid, was very well done.

  • care? yes. want to see it? yea. i read several of the comics growing up.

  • Seen it, loved it. Captain Haddock stole the show. One of my favorite animated movies ever.

  • Can't wait to see it!!! Thanks for the great review!

  • I grew up on the comics (I'm Swiss). They are awesome!!! Funny, beautifully ilustrated and with alot of heart. I can strongly recommend them for children (Kristian...) ) maby more for boys though.

Another great comic series I don't think americans know well is Asterix...

  • Welcome back Christian, and congrats on the baby girl

  • It's based on a Belgian comic from the '40s. Tintin's very famous over here. :-)

  • Great review.

    Diggin' the coat, Kristian! ha

  • Haha, i have that exact same coat Ellis :)

  • @MartinDe123 Ha, Harloff has the coat on

  • I really liked it this movie

  • I really enjoyed this film when it came out in October in the UK. I grew up with Tintin. Great time seeing this film. Great review once again! Oh and tell Mark its Archibald Haddock ;)

  • I loved the comics as a kid. When I saw the trailer and who was behind it I felt so excited. I'm so glad this franchise made it's way into competent hands. Watching this the day it comes out!

  • Hey... There's a movie that we actually got to watch before you!!! Wow... I'm still shocked that you weren't familiar with Tintin literature or animation before the movie came out... Maybe because for me and my peers Tintin was a huge part of our childhood (pretty much like Asterix and Lucky Luke...). Haddock,Dupond et Dupont and even Milou are some of the most thoughtfully and beautifully made characters ever.

  • I've been waiting for this movie for four years!!! Of course I'm excited. And when are the Herge books are going to be out in the open in bookstores in the US? Its hard press to find them in the stores.

  • Saw it in october cos i'm in iceland

  • Dying to see this now. Thanks.

  • Nice picture of Riggins pounding the rock.

  • @dunskie Formative moment in the history of civilization...or at least the Redskins, anyway.

  • Aha! I knew seeing it would bring you guys around! :D So glad to hear you liked it. I've been looking forward to it...pretty much since I first heard about it. I have all the comics. I'm definitely not surprised you guys hadn't heard of it. Most Americans haven't. Which is a shame because it's a great series.

Also, HADDOCK! Don't turn into Castafiore on us, gentlemen. :P

All in all, this was a great, relieving American review of this movie. I'm really hoping it does well in America.

  • I apologize to all you Europeans that most American's are totally clueless about such a great contribution to literature that is Tintin. I've been a fan ever since I was a little boy and found the books in my local library. Now I own the whole set. I don't know why people are clueless about them. They are in every Barnes & Noble and every library in america.

  • Jazz Hands. Nice.

  • That character is the closest Andy Serkis will ever get to looking like a normal human being.

  • welcome back Kristian! Congrats

  • P.S.: I'm a fan of Spielberg, I'm a fan of Jackson, and I've been a fan of Tintin since God knows when! Of course I'm gonna see it!!!

  • Good to see you back, Kristian. I used to watch the Tintin cartoon series as a kid. This is a really good family film. I saw an interview with Spielberg and Jackson where they were saying that sequels are a definite possiblility if the film does well, so go and see it, people!

  • First off, welcome back Kristian! Congrats on your little bundle of joy.

    Now, a little trivia:

1:34-1:42= After "Raiders of the Lost Ark" came out, the critics kept saying they felt like they were watching a long lost Tintin adventure. It was right then and there that Spielberg began to look into Tintin comics and met Herge, the creator. He's been a fan ever since.

  • This movie was awesome, I loved every second of it.

  • @Aguacater87 The only people who saw it were from Europe. Are you from Europe? If so, is it still playing? I'm about to go to London in a week and I wanna know.

  • @OYE87 Well it was still playing a week ago in some places in Barcelona where I live. Look it up maybee you ar elucky. it's wroth watching it in the cinema.

  • @Aguacater87 Eii! Jo tmb sóc de barna!

  • Tintin is a comic from Belgium(my country ;d). I even played him in an elementary school play! He's a memory of my childhoord,so I really hope I'll enjoy the film. it actually came out 21st of October but I was too lazy to go and see it ;s. anyway, great review. Harloff really looks like haddock!

  • I was going to do the Indiana joke but I knew if I did I'd get stick because of my feelings of Spielberg. Tintin must be bigger in UK than America for you guys not to know it?

  • @Brighteyeslonglashes I guess so; with all the cartoons and comics of my youth I guess some slip through the cracks. May have to do some research now after liking the film so much :)

  • Cool review. Tintin has been around since 1929 so he predates Indy.

  • I used to watch the cartoon every saturday when i was younger. The movie was great! Not as good as the series but the best movie it could've been.

  • I felt there were very little stakes in Tintin, and Serkis stole the show as Haddock. I'll see it again, but mostly for the opportunity to see the Hobbit teaser in 3D.

  • Schmoes, you don't know about Tintin?! I nostalgia'd hard. The movie _looks_ awesome, Haddock is hilarious! Definitely gonna watch it!

  • i really liked this movie it was fun and worth a watch

  • i like your jacket kristen.

  • I own all the comics, so yea I did know that it wasnt Rintintin. It also was a cartoon as well. There is a cartoon version of this very movie in fact.

  • No, don't care about it, not going to see it. It's a series of well known and popular comic books in Europe. Is like soccer that way. There's a reason the books never became popular in America.

  • @rofyle I don't understand what do you mean but i own all the comic books and the movie was incredibly good. if you liked the comics you should watch it.

  • Tintin is a Belgium comic. It's really popular in europe. You should look it up (:

  • So why did TinTin follow that guy all over the world? to write a news story? Meh. I didn't care about this movie at all...

  • They used all the same technology that was used on Gollum, and you can tell. The realism of it all makes me very excited to see how Jackson uses it on the Hobbit. It's going to look so freakin' real.

  • Sorry but its spelt "Tintin".

  • Great Review, guys. Glad you are back, Kristian!

  • First (yes I know this is a gay comment but i dont care)

  • 1 view? No comments? Damn, came it at a rare time. But yeah nice review guys
