lucky..im currently on part 3...i had to move back to my house...i go between states each year to see family..but yea im trying to see if they got the mortal instrument series here where i live...but so far i love the book..i like your thoughts on the book...ill subscribe... and yea im a guy...lol weird huh
@ErikJReyes9 Actually no, my brother is reading Mortal Instruments. He's 25 and really enjoying the books too. I hope you get to finish the books, despite all of the moving. Clockwork Angel comes out at the end of the month and I can't wait for that! I'm gunna have to reread books 1-3 before book 4 comes out in April.
@lindsaylou04 yea but the thing is that im addicted to gaming..im 15 and do nothing else but play and go to skool and hang out with my friends..so yea its wierd
@ErikJReyes9 My brother games a lot too. He's big into WoW. Well, he's more into his girlfriend right now, but that will fade soon and he'll be back into his gaming again.
Again-it's like ur in my head. The only diff is that my speculation about Jace&Clary not being siblings happened when the queen of the Seelie Court asked Jace to ask Valentine:what blood runs in his veins. My theory is that when Jocelyn wakes up she'll reveal that Jace isn't her son, which really sucks for Jace, but at the same time rocks,b/c now he & Clary can be together.Jace didn't drink Simon's blood,so I'm assuming he'll be fine.I'm off to read COG.I'll checkout your COG vid once I'm finished.
@wickedlyunique I can't wait to hear your thoughts on COG! I can't really say much about your opinions in this comment because I don't want to give anything away. What did you think of the Seelie court? If you liked it then you should read Tithe by Holly Black. She inspired a lot in the Mortal Instruments series. When my new channel is ready, then I plan to review Tithe and these books there too :)
@lindsaylou04 I'm currently on page 251 - so i shall be hitting up your COG vid soon. The Modern Faerie Tales is actually the next read on my 'books I need to read' list. Every Cassandra interview I watch seems to feature Holly - they're so hilarious. What will your new channel be called?
@wickedlyunique TheBestLibraryEver is my new channel. I link to it from this channel. The new channel will be all book stuff and this will just be for personal use. Holly and Clare actually do their book tours together and the Seelie Court originally comes from Holly's books. Also Jace is featured in two of Holly's newest books. I have some great news about TMI series that I've put in a video that I will be posting very so, so watch for that. I'm almost finished rereading Tithe and I love it!!
I just suscribed to both of your channels. I look forward to hearing your thoughts in your book reviews. I knew about Cassandra borrowing a few of Holly's characters, but I didn't know that Jace would be featured in Holly's books. Now I HAVE to read them. heh. I'm such a Jace fangirl. I also heart Simon&Magnus (seperately. Not as a shipping. Magnus belongs with Alec). I'm currently on pg. 335 in COG - Ididn't get much time these pass few days to read. I hope today is kind to me.
@wickedlyunique Well thank you for subscribing to my channels! Yeah, I only recently found out about Jace being in Holly's books. I had seen her newest book and wasn't sure that I would read it, but now that I know Jace is in it; I have to read it lol! I really like Jace and hate him at other times, depending on his attitude lol. Simon is not a character that I care much for. I love magnus-- there is just something about him. Alec and his sister haven't really made an impression on me.
I just finished City of Ashes today, and this is my theory on why sunlight doesn't affect Simon anymore. Towards the end of the book when they were in the back of Luke's pickup, and it was going across the water, Simon mentioned that vampires didn't like running water because it was holy and the vampires aren't. I think since Jace is a shadowhunter, and shadowhunters are descendants of angels and humans...(I think!), the blood he gave Simon must have made him holy since Jace has angel blood.
@xmissbookobsessed I think you've more or less got the right idea. I had assumed that Simon was ok in sunlight cuz of Jace's blood.
I just love this series. The countdown to Clockwork Angel has begun, so I'll probably be rereading the Mortal Instruments soon. I made a teaser trailer for the upcoming book. It's nothing fancy, but it shows the book's cover. Check it out. I think the book looks badass.
Why didn't Jace become a vampire after Simon bit him?
City of Ashes, p. 192:
"You might remember that when [Simon] was in the form of a rat, and you came to fetch him from us, he bit me," said Raphael. "In any case, he took some of my blood into his mouth when he did it. You know that is how we pass our powers to each other. Through [VAMPIRE] blood."
Jace isn't becoming a vampire because he didn't ingest vampire blood. Simon became a vampire because he did.
@boookloverrrr Yeah, I kinda figured it was something like that. I assumed that in reality that some sort of fluid would have been exchanged, which would have been an exchange in DNA. I didn't really think Jace would become a vamp, but I was wondering if he would experience something. I guess I was just hoping for another plot twist lol. Just trying to anticipate what could happen next.
@lindsaylou04 Sorry about that, i read it off of FAQ's off the main fan website or something and i couldnt help but tell you that. But i actually just finished reading the second one that i recently got and plan to get the third one tomorrow! Hopefully it is as good as i plan it is. I really love watching your book discussions though, there not boring at all unlike others! Keeep up the good work. (:
@boookloverrrr Well, if it's on the FAQs page at least I'm not the only one who came up with that theory lol. I can't wait to discuss the third book with you. I really liked it. Wow, that is a major compliment! Thank you! I really enjoy making discussion videos, so I've started a new channel just for them. /TheBestLibraryEver It's going to be completely devoted to books and I'm going to post regularly. It's not fully up though, maybe two more months and I'll be ready. Thanks again!
ooooh wow. maybe i just missed it but i had no idea why simon wasnt burning in the sun at the end but now it all makes sense! lol many times espically on the ship with all the demons i was seriously like "ahhh! omg!" Cassandra claire did a great job with keeping the readers on edge like that. at first i didnt like mangus too much but now i just love him! i think its b.c at first i pictured that one guy off harry potter but now i picture a really cute guy ;) lol AMAZING BOOK! i recommend it!
It was sooo sweet when Jace saved Simon, mostly I think for Clary. My favorite scene was Alec allowing Magnus to use his energy, oh sooooo sweet! I loved Magnus in this book! I met C.Clare and she said that Magnus will be in her pre-quel to this series which is coming out this year. Magnus is the only one that was already born in the pre-quel time period.
U can go on Cassandra Clare's website and read an excerpt from the pre-quel and she tells u what the plot is about.
She actually said that the fourth book to city of bones coming out March of 2011 will refer to some of the characters we will read about in the prequel. Thats why she is releasing book one in the prequel before book 4 in the mortal instrument series. Check out her site! :)
Hey check out yafictionfreaks channel if u love young adult fiction! :)
Man, if Jace is affected by all that then that would just be crazy. He's already bad ass as it is, but now give him Vampire strength and speed....Wooh! He'd be the best Shadowhunter and he's not even 18yrs old!
You definitely never really know what to expect in the coming book. Cassandra has done a wonderful job at throwing twists in their that she doesnt hint too. I love that things in her books catch me off guard!
He's already badass and then multiply that by 10. Whoa!
I started reading the series without expecting that kind of twists. Twists that makes me wanna pull my hair out and scream...espacially at the end of City of Ashes at Taki's. Uh--mazing... and I had to wait for almost a year to get my hands on City of Glass. Equally satisfying as well.
I have to say that it's rare for me to be caught off guard by something that happens in a book. Generally the outcome is obvious or the author hint's to the truth far too much, but Cassandra didnt seem to do that. I did guess at a few of her plans, but for the most part I was left in the dark until the correct pivotal moment--- and I loved that! COG really had some twists, but I cant say much about that till I post the discussion at the end of the month. I really hope you'll join us then :D
I as almost sure that they are not related but CC just makes you believe that they are related that I was in the point to almost accepting that they will never be together. Weee....
OMG! I was soooo not expecting that! HAHAHA you crack me up! Get down girl woo! Good job discussing the book. You make it very interesting and informative.
Gee I hope you didnt watch the whole video cuz that would have ruined the book for you! I'm glad you found me entertaining-- it is what I was going for. What do you think, good mini tribute to MJ?
Yeah thats true. i really hope it isnt the last book but i went onto their website and there was nothing mentioned about there being a fourth installment, but they did post something about their being a prequel!!! that would be pretty amazing lol
I do think this is the last book (City of Glass), but I'm not positive. A prequel, really? I'd read that! I think it might be a little bit disturbing considering it might take place when Clary's mom is still married to Valentine. It will probably shed some more light on what when on during those time. Especially with his experiments. Perhaps that will have to be a book for our book club :D
There was something else I was thinking about--did I misunderstand something, but did the inquisitor give something away before she bit it? I kinda think that Jace is her son. Am I off base? Did anybody else pick up on that small little scene?
I just went back to the spot just before she died, she didnt give him anything, but she did ask him how he got a spidery vain. When he said he got it as a child, she said "you couldnt be?" "you really thought you were Wayland's son?" So you're not off base. It's definitely a possibility and it could hint that he's not Valentine's son. OOOO Cassandra is good! Even I cant completely guess at her game lol
that he has the ability to not only devy gravity or anything but i think it means that like all his abilities are enhanced. Im hoping that he can like jump high, run faster, you never know like the possibilities are endless for both of them. I think that luke definately is handsom and hot haha he just has that whole manliness thing about him. Also, im pretty sure i don lik maryse either, it seems like she was trying to send jace away that time to protect him, but theres something else there lol
I agree, Maryse definitely has this un-trustable quality about her. I like what you said about Jace, the angle, and his abilities being enhanced. I never thought about it that way and it's a very interesting perspective. Clary becoming a weapon could be an issue, but if the third book is the last book, then I dont they can fit it in, but I'm not really sure if it is the last book. The third book only came out this year and I think I just assumed it was the last.
Yeah i really liked how Clary and Jace were given original abilities! I think that Clary's power over manipulateing runes is going to be amazing, but im thinking its gunna get her into trouble. i mean the clave know that something spectacular happened and i think maybe they would try to use her as a weapon or something! And yeah i havent had a chance to start reading the third yet lol so busy!. But yeah haha, then about jace, well he is like the angel ( like the faery queen said) so i think...
No, I completely agree. The covers have thrown me off a bit too. I picture Jace with blonde hair-- like a deep colored blonde. That's also why the cover of COG has me a bit thrown. Cuz he has straight black hair, but he also has wings. I guess the wings can be put on anyone cuz they all have angle DNA, but I would think the wings would go on Jace since he's the one that seems to have to ability to defy gravity.
COA was awesome! C.Clare doesn't disappoint. I was so glad that we didn't lose Simon, the were a couple times I thought we were going too. Is it just me or is Luke kinda hot? I don't know, I like that manly, wolfy thing he has going on. =)
Oh I completely agree! I've always pictured Luke being this hot, smart, manly man. I also thought Simon was a goner a few times. He's a great character, but he's completely dispensable. He could have died, brought some awesome emotion and unpredictability to the story, and it wouldnt have screwed up the end result. So yeah, I thought Cassandra would kill him off. I'm so glad that she didnt though :D
I enjoyed this book more than the first for several reasons. I love the fact that she gives some insight into her characters with more references to the past and some very interesting flashbacks. She did, however, introduce several new characters that I could do without. Maryse seems too boring to be anything but a "killable complication" and I hate the inquisitor. That's okay because I'm pretty sure your supposed to hate her. I guess she reminds me too much of other characters from other books
I love Simon so what happened to him was perfect.(Raphael is the name you couldn't remeber) At this point, I kinda hope Simon ends up with Maia. Jace and Clary have to end up together. Anything else would be financial suicide for Cassandra Claire. As love interests go, I really want Alec and Magnus to be together. Magnus is one of my favorite characters and I want him to be happy. Loved the fearless rune. Alec standing up to his parents was priceless. Overall it was a great book. GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank you! I just couldnt put my finger on his name. I'm hoping that Simon will end up with Maia too. I think they'll be better for each other. I adore Magnus! He's such an interesting character. He's wise, confident, somewhat of an elitist, and other times he's as sweet as can be. I just love him being in the story. I love Clary's power with runes and I'm excited to see what she does with it. She could do some really bad ass things, if the opportunity arrives. Thank you, glad you liked it :D
I didnt really care for Maryse either. She's just an un-trustable. The second she gets her chance she'll join Valentine. I think Cassandra wants us to trust and like her, but I just dont. I hated the inquisitor too, but she won me over just before she died. Speaking of death, I thought the death of the Silent brothers was particularly awful. Jeremiah lying there with his mouth ripper open in a silent scream, just killed me. No pun intended.
I was very disappointed with the death of The Silent Brothers. To me, they seemed like a group of men that the best fighters would cower away from. I thought that when things went from bad to worse that they would set it right. I was way off base with that idea.
Yup! The Silent Brother's were made out to be this amazing group that basically couldnt be f*cked with cuz they could mess with your mind, but in one simple sweep Valentine removes them from existence. I cant help wondering though, what is it that the Silent Brother's would be afraid of? We'll never find out and maybe that's a good thing. It does show you how tough Valentine is.
I agree with your comments! This is the best book by far.....I really was shocked about what happened to Simon (I cried, too!) but the more I read, the more I am kinda in to him being a vampire. Not only is he a cool musician, but has become something more.
I also agree that Cassandra Clare is doing a great job keeping her readers on the edge of their seats! I was almost mad at the end because I wanted to know what happens....to leave Jace and Clary not admitting their love for each other is
Book 3 arrived today!!!! I was so excited when I got home and saw the package sitting in front of my door. I'll probably start reading it tonight, but I do have the next two days off and you know that's what I'll be doing lol. Ya know, the cover looks like it has Alec on it, but he has wings and I would think that only Jace would be depicted with wings.
Btw, what were you going to say? "...love for each other is..." you didnt finish it.
Yeah i kinda noticed that too. I think its cause Simon thinks that now hes a vampire him and clary dont have a chance together and hes probably just doesnt want to be hurt anymore knowing that Clary cant love him like she loves Jace. Yeah i definately think tat him and Maia will get together, plus theyre supposed to be swor enemies which will maKE things interesting lol. I just bought the third one yesterday and im gunn start reading it tonight!! :)
Oh I'm soooo jealous that you already have the 3rd book! It's gunna be good, I can feel it :D I see your point about Simon and Clary. I think he is starting to except that she'll never love him the way she does Jace. What do you think about Jace's and Clary's untapped power? Jace seems to have some kind of flying ability and Clary has the power of runes. I think her power could be really bad ass! So many possibilities!
I dont know we'll have to see. And I SO agree with how you said Cassandra really makes you feel whats going on in the book. I cried when Simon "Died" and when i thought he was going to burn in the son. I wouldn't mind if Clary went out with Simon again and fell inlove with him but it just seems too easy lol. Like her and Jace have so much tension and love behind them but with simon its like simple and nothing to fight for. Plus Jace sounds hott :P Great book i cant wait to read city of Glass!!!!
Did you notice that once Simon became a vampire that him and Clary really took a step back from each other? Cassandra never explained why and I thought it was really strange that they suddenly cooled off. Then, at the end they basically called it quits. Plus, I think Maia and Simon are showing sparks. Interesting pair huh? I'm currently waiting for the 3rd book to arrive in the mail and I wish I'd ordered it sooner cuz I'm just dieing to read it!
This book was definately my favourtie by far! I think that Clary and Jace are not brother and sister. Like first of all they dont look anything alike lol. second of all, i agree with what you read about valentine cutting off his sentence. You could so tell he was going to say ... Jace lol and then when Jace was talking to the inquisitor on the boat she makes that comment about him not being valentines son after all and something about being the son of Michael Wayland.
I agree! This is my fave in the series so far too. I forgot about the part with Jace and the inquisitor! If the series ends and they are actually siblings, I will be soooo disappointed! But I'm positive they're not. Cassandra is definitely doing her best to keep us guessing :D

paulakrontz 2 years ago

Also, im pretty sure i don lik maryse either, it seems like she was trying to send jace away that time to protect him, but theres something else there lol
xoxsweetheartsxox 2 years ago

OOO thanks! I'll start looking for that :D

GraceAlone71 2 years ago
Oh I completely agree! I've always pictured Luke being this hot, smart, manly man. I also thought Simon was a goner a few times. He's a great character, but he's completely dispensable. He could have died, brought some awesome emotion and unpredictability to the story, and it wouldnt have screwed up the end result. So yeah, I thought Cassandra would kill him off. I'm so glad that she didnt though :D

Luke is definitely hot!

I just don't like a character that serves no other purpose than to be annoying and nasty to the good characters.

No pun intended.
lindsaylou04 2 years ago
I was very disappointed with the death of The Silent Brothers. To me, they seemed like a group of men that the best fighters would cower away from. I thought that when things went from bad to worse that they would set it right. I was way off base with that idea.
rain2298 2 years ago

"...love for each other is..." you didnt finish it.
lindsaylou04 2 years ago
I can't remember what I was going to say...maybe that it was aggravating that they can't be together NOW!!!!
paulakrontz 2 years ago
Yup, that's the same feeling that I'm sharing.
lindsaylou04 2 years ago

So many possibilities!
lindsaylou04 2 years ago
I dont know we'll have to see. And I SO agree with how you said Cassandra really makes you feel whats going on in the book. I cried when Simon "Died" and when i thought he was going to burn in the son. I wouldn't mind if Clary went out with Simon again and fell inlove with him but it just seems too easy lol. Like her and Jace have so much tension and love behind them but with simon its like simple and nothing to fight for. Plus Jace sounds hott :P Great book i cant wait to read city of Glass!!!!
xoxsweetheartsxox 2 years ago

Jace lol and then when Jace was talking to the inquisitor on the boat she makes that comment about him not being valentines son after all and something about being the son of Michael Wayland.
xoxsweetheartsxox 2 years ago
I agree! This is my fave in the series so far too. I forgot about the part with Jace and the inquisitor! If the series ends and they are actually siblings, I will be soooo disappointed! But I'm positive they're not. Cassandra is definitely doing her best to keep us guessing :D
