  • STUPID ASSHOLE

  • @elizabeth112k7

Such an eloquent refutation of the ideas presented.

  • I just glanced at the title at one point, and seriously, thought it said "The Unicorns are to Blame"!!! :)

  • As a European, we have very limited views of Americans. When I find one like this, I know there is hope, and thanks to the internet, I'm finding more and more. Keep it up Roy.

  • Only a comedian could speak so eloquently about such serious matters.

  • yeah its all there fault 8hr day 5day work week livable wage GOD BLESS THEM ONE AND ALL

  • Great job Roy! You hit it right out of the park - again!

  • One from the real wold Part 7

Who should tell people about solidarity today - if there's only envy towards the richer and ignorance towards the poorer (and I'm not talking about the extremely rich and extremely poor). It's the "poorer" that point at some "richer" , allege shamelessness - and let this assumption be the justification for their own anti-social attitude. I have seen this with people that earn 20K, 50K , 150K , left, right, - just everywhere - what's the cure for that?

  • One from the real wold Part 6

We've got a pretty good system here with some safety - but "not to contribute" is a kind of sport. In my case these workers just don't get the idea of being responsible themselves for contributing to the welfare-systems that they will potentially benefit from or have others benefit from.

They really love their job - in the meantime they asked to work for 8 per hour, 50 hours a month to "get their work done" as long as they don't have to pay taxes and insurances.

  • One from the real wold Part 5

I really like the Idea of taxes and insurances "nanny-statin' socialist" approach that brings financial security and healthcare to familys with little income rather than letting the families, the children, the poor and the old on their own. Should I tell my workers "hey - now your have reached the paying side of the our welfare state - welcome on board" and make the employee pay 50% of taxes and insurances as I am supposed to?

  • One from the real wold Part 4

What do I do now: offer them 20 per hour and take all costs of their insurances and pay their income taxes (apart from the 30 days of paid vacation and 9 days of bank-holidays) - so they remain "insured tax payers" They know that they can'task it from me as I'm high above above the average for the job they do already. Or should i simply accept their request to earn and work less as the other three do that always stay below 400 per month?

  • One from the real wold Part 3

Now just an hour ago one of my workers came in and said " it hurts me so see all these deductions for healthcare, unemployment insurance (granting them 1 year of 60% of their last income in case of unemployment) and all these taxes. I feel better being exempted from taxes and all these insurances. I want to work less and have less money per hour, can you arrange that?.

  • One from the real wold Part 2

Now come the taxes and social security, unemployment insurance, at 800 per month they get paid 501 net payment, while I have costs of 966 per month. So the Worker at 53 hours per month gets 9,45 - that's less than before an I pay 18,22 per hour in total. so that's increases my cost per hour by one third. I'm fine with that.

  • One from the real wold Part I

I have workers in my small company earning like 10 per hour - by the local law they have no deduction for nothing as long as they stay below 400 per month. I as Employer have the cost of 500 p.m. Now they want to earn more - that means they work less hours than 40 - but they want to earn more than 400. Now taxes and social security come in - also the employees have to pay their part. I raise the hourly payment from 10 to 15 and they earn 800 for 53 hours - but...

  • Now if only unions could help people understand the concept of satire.

  • Love, love, LOVE it! It amazes me that there are so many people who don't understand that the very concept of "weekend" exists because of unions. There is a reason that even in French, it's "le weekend" -- because the concept is one born in the USA, delivered by unions.

  • One may only hope that "Powerlifter83" has consumed so many steroids his nutz are the size of pop-corn kernels, and his sperm is dead.

  • Are you O.K. ? you wanna blame the ONLY institution that really HELPS the poor bastard who is workin' and bustin' his butt for the Bankers? I like your songs but this one SUX

  • @ClintL63 You realise that the song is ironic satire?

  • For some reason, I read the title as "The Unicorns Are to Blame"

  • I'd give this more than 2 thumbs up if I had more thumbs... nice work, great message, thanks for sharing what you do Roy!

  • I got nuthin'. Roy keeps saying it before I can think of it! Thanks, Roy.

  • I will soon purchase a plastics-forming shop.

I will soon hire many "small workers", even though I will have to pay their adoptive parents under the table.

    Why?

It's simple: children have small hands and can get into all kinds of nooks and crannies to clean or adjust machines---- while the machines are running. Shutting the equipment down costs a lot of pennies. And I will need the pennies to pay for those kids, see?

And I hope my yacht is built with attention to detail... by "small people".

  • I thought those deadbeat unemployed bums were to blame, along with too much regulation on Wall Street and the banks.

  • Screw Victor, you should be playing at the pepsi center

  • I feel bad that I live in Wisconsin, even though I didn't vote for Scott Walker. This might as well be his theme song.

  • I hope you all are enjoying your union-provided weekends to watch your sporting events, after your union-provided 40-hr work week. Oh ... I forgot ... It was only a 32-hr week, since you probably had a union-provided paid holiday. And perhaps you can watch your games with your kids at your side, since there are union-provided child-labor laws. Yeah, those unions sure suck!

  • Genius

  • @Powerlifter83 Cool story bro. Hope you're enjoying your weekend.

  • @Powerlifter83 Yes, because the US would be much better off with more minimum wage earners and higher profits for CEOs. Your wealth isn't distributed enough to the rich yet!

  • @Powerlifter83 The reason that weekends, minimum wage, sick days, overtime pay, safety rules, and lunch breaks are the LAW, is because unions demanded them. Without them, you'd be working 16-hour shifts, 7 days a week, in crowded factories with people who are missing fingers, for pennies a day, and you wouldn't be allowed to eat a single bite from the time you got to work until you dragged your weary bones home in the evening. And you'd be doing it from the age of 12. Just like 100 years ago!

  • @Ongarukat I would never sacrifice liberty for security and those that are willing to do so, deserve neither.

  • @Powerlifter83 China doesn't have unions and they are kicking our butts. American pay needs to be capped at Chinese pay. Americans are lazy and make too much money. We need longer hours, less pay and food cut with plastic so we don't eat too much. our water is too clean. We can use more pollutants and heavy metals in it.

It's time for America to adopts China's lifestyle, so we can all be prosperous like they are.

  • @Weaseldog2001 why are the very best, highest paying jobs in america non-union....while some of the absolute worst jobs are? Do police officers make enough money? They put their lives on the line for us and most make less than 40k a year. You people who don't understand basic economics or the free market make me fucking sick. Get educated buddy.

  • @Powerlifter83 You're right, people who make more than union wages are destroying our economy and destroying jobs. They are making us less competitive with other countries.

You're right to argue that high wages are destroying our nation.

  • @Powerlifter83

I don't know what else to say, except you are truly an *******************!

Ask walmart employes how they like being underpaid, overworked and tossed aside. The Waltons and their shareholders get rich while you subsidize their workers' healthcare with your precious tax dollars.

Your ignorance is unbelievable. Wait, no, it is perfectly believable! You have no idea where workers' rights in this country came from. Certainly not from generous employers.

  • freedoms are the oppisite of freedom. Get them out of america

  • @Powerlifter83 Oh, you're a troll. Damn.

  • @Xerxes4242 no I just believe in personal responsibility and freedom.

  • @Powerlifter83 What these people don't understand is that we're enslaved by our rights and our wealth. All Americans should be paid low wages and be required to work long hours. Our taxes need to be high, so that the wealthy don't have to pay taxes. That way they can create more low wage jobs. Our children have it too soft too. Chinese children have good jobs working barefoot, melting down circuit boards with acid. Our children could be doing that too, instead of wasting time in school.

  • Another funny song from our man Roy Z......

  • Will the new CD have the song osama bingotten or what ever that was called?, that song was great but yeah gone.

    Nice song as always Zimmerman.

  • "Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."

    John Steinbeck

  • when i think of a "real american" i think of roy.

  • @lainnorcal That's funny, when the rest of the world thinks of Americans we automatically go to the Newt Gingrich type...No offense, just saying...

  • I was simply adding vids to my "Watch Later" playlist, when I saw this vid and couldn't resist the urge of seeing it NOW!

  • "my front porch / ... fame and forch / une" Whether that was Roy or Melanie, you made my day.

My Sister the VIP Banker hates unions (though mine protected me from a sex discrimination firing). I asked once why the tellers and branch employees don't unionize. She said, "Because we treat them right." I thought, "until the day you fire them after a merger, and then foreclose on them because they can't pay their mortgage." (Actual case.)

  • @LemonaCA - I just minutes ago, looking at job postings, that MY bank pays its tellers $10/hour & hires many only part time! Kinda has me worried about disgruntled employees' access to what little money I still have there... Yeah, yeah, I know they're bonded & my little account is a tiny fraction of the FDIC amount, but I'm just sayin.. . That's a pretty responsible, fiduciary-type job to be paying just above food service counter help-- and w/o even the tips

  • @Lupinssupins ... I made the rough equivalent of $8 doing *volunteer* work for social services here in Sweden. And that was *lousy* pay - I got more babysitting for a single mom with a lousy schedule. So...

    ... What the hell?!

  • @Lupinssupins: "and w/o even the tips" (smile) Yes, and unlike food service help, tellers don't get issued a uniform or apron; on that measly pay, they need to look professional. (Barbara Ehrenreich nailed that injustice in "Bait and Switch".) Did you notice that right after we posted, B of A announced 40,000 layoffs?

  • @LemonaCA -Indeed. And while I agree that "looking professional" on low pay is challenging, I assure you that food service workers have to pay employers for uniforms & aprons. My son was dunned $60 for the required, employer-issued black leather shoes for his part-time kitchen job! It was deducted from his paychecks. They claimed some alleged OSHA requirement [yeah, always blame that dang ole "gubmint regulation" canard] about protection from hot spatters, dropped knives, slips on spills...

  • @Lupinssupins: Sigh. $60 was a big chunk of your son's paychecks, I bet. Thanks for getting me up to date; my last food service job was in 1985.

  • Epic.

  • "I don't like the unions brother, all they do is bitch.

And I'm thinking, 'Why would I join one when someday I'll be rich?'"

    ^Solid Oak Philosophy

  • If we scrap minimum wage, minimum age, OSHA the EPA and get soldiers to fire on slav- um workers that strike we'd all be back to work in a year.

  • Love it - and great playing!

  • @karlboman Yes, smokin' hot!

  • Masterfully executed, Roy. Much love.

  • Binary thinking rules!

  • excellent tongue in cheek nail to head tune, thanks

  • Genius. Pure genius.

  • You nailed it again Roy. BRAVO! yeah, I'm shouting.

  • Oh Roy, you and Anne Lamott in the LA Times this past Labor day. You got it goin' on. And man, can you play guitar.

  • Roy and/or fans: I cannot find the "You're Getting Sleepy" cd. Help, please?

  • @brenbess Thanks for asking! My new CD "You're Getting Sleepy" will be released on Tuesday, Oct 4. I'll be mixing it this very weekend. Stay tuned!

  • @RoyZimmerman Releasing your new album on my birthday? You picked that date on purpose, didn't you, Roy?

  • @RoyZimmerman -But, but, but... Roy-- You don't get YOUR weekends off? Nor an 8 hour day, judging from your travel schedule...

  • I'm not certain of the ins and outs of US unions ....unions in the UK got pushy ....the PM (thatcher) slapped them down. Unions are important ....but they don't have to stand forever, they just don't want to downsize ....no one does. Rock vs Hard Place.

  • Tag worker pay to productivity.

  • Awesome song! My dad was part of a machinist's union when he was working.

  • Am I the only one who read "The Unicorns are to Blame" ?

  • Ooh the irony. It hurts so good!

  • "greek end" LOL

  • Irony is my favorite form of musical comedy. If someone like Ron Paul wins in 2012, we're all screwed!

  • @Briarboyfl Paul's like a comedic version of Pat Paulsen.

  • Brilliant, as usual.

  • Wicked satire and smokin' guitar playing/singing, keep em coming.

    3 cheers!

  • Still got it Roy! Keep the faith- your messages are loud and clear.

  • Cool! Listing all the benefits that unions have brought for workers, whether union or not. Go Roy!

  • A real hero, a brilliant wit, a classy guy, and a great musician-- what's not to love with Roy?

  • Haha this is all so "true"...

  • Oh, and I'm cocked locked and ready to rock! Those Union members needed a paramilitary professional like myself. Let's do it again and this time, LETS DO IT RIGHT. No retreat, no surrender.

  • Thank you for bringing back hope to my soul.

  • This scratches a mental itch I haven't been able to touch.

    It's catchy and rhymes, too!

  • If we bring back child-employing sweatshops, maybe the CEO will be able to keep his helicopter.

  • @RadicalWhig

Was just thinking about a new line of Nike ads: For us, by us (new children's shoe). Designed by a committee of the world's top experts for a cost of several million dollars, handcrafted by a child for 70c. Just do it: Yes, it may be your tenth hour without a break, but you wont be able to feed your four siblings otherwise. Not one drop: we do not employ any child that is even 1/16th white, so your consciences can be clear. Wage slavery: Milton knows what you're worth.

  • Dammit I have been in that town lol. Dear Roy: are you still in colorado? that would be awesome

  • You spelled "onions" wrong

  • man this guy is so talented

  • Roy Zimmerman? Boner achieved.

  • So awesome.

  • Do you all think of your CEO and his wife, kids, servants, mistress and other mistress when you get hit in the head by a wrench and go see the doctor?

  • Seeing a Roy Zimmerman video pop up in my sub box automatically makes this an awesome day. Absolutely loved this song. Once again, the writing is absurdly perfect. I applaud thee.

  • Yay new zimmerman song, missed you guy. :D
