This guy such a hypocrite. He blames Rush for the world trade center bombing even theirs no proof that Timothy Mcveigh listened to him. But now wants to pretend Al Gore didn’t inspire this guy. Can’t have it both ways.
As much as this guy was insane...he was right. The main problem in this ENTIRE planet is over population. Don't buy it? Look at all the problems we have to face: inflation, imbalance of the distribution of wealth, pollution, destruction of natural resources: e.g. the cutting down of millions of acres of forest to build more houses and to exploit the land..for humans...Maybe i'm insane too. I don't think we should prevent people from having children. This just made me think a little...
@pw3db4lunch Every 20 or so years we get inundated with these fears of overpopulation and every time they set a date when the big famines are supposed to hit the date turns out wrong. When things get to bad then several balancing factors kick in - namely lack of food/water, spread of deadly disease, and of course the ever favorite self imposed war and genocide. There is still plenty of space. Overpopulation is getting to be a tired myth. I feel Lee was misguided and wasted his life.
@jOkErNdEgRaDeR Who gives a shit about the planet? I mean, outside of what it can do to support us, of course? It is a lump of billion year old rock and the only remarkable thing it managed to produce was life. The greatest example of that life has been us. So long as we, the pinnacle of evolution at this point, survive I could really care less about the planet. In fact, the sooner we can get off of it and begin manifest destiny across the entire cosmos the better.
@Cajaquarius "The sooner we get off it and begin manifest destiny across the entire cosmos the better"....WOW. And I thought Mr. James Lee was insane.....
@pw3db4lunch Really? How is what I said insane or out of line at all with how humans have behaved throughout history? Do you think that is not the ultimate end that we are moving to with the Mars rover, the space station, etcetera and so on? Since we originated in Africa we have spread out across the world and propagated so why not into space. I would love to hear a serious rebuttal to my point of view and predictions if you have one.
@Cajaquarius ARE you listening to yourself? THE HUMAN CONDITION IS INESCAPABLE. EVEN if it were possible to migrate to other planets what do you think will happen? There will be VIOLENCE. There will be GREED. There will be CRIME. HOW COULD YOU NOT SEE THIS? WE SHOULD BE TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM(S) THAT WE AS HUMANKIND HAVE TO FACE ON THIS PLANET INSTEAD OF COMING UP WITH RIDICULOUS SUGGESTIONS LIKE YOURS.
@pw3db4lunch Yes but having humanity on a cramped planet with extremely very finite resources only exasperates the problem. Look at the majority of wars, what was there true motivation? Usually land / resources.
@Cajaquarius I'm not an environmentalist, but we are no where near being able to get of this "rock". So far, it's not even been verified that life can exist anywhere else in this solar system, let alone the rest of the cosmos. The only place where we can grow food to sustain us is this planet. It's not just a rock, it's alive and we are part of that life. Don't be an ungrateful son, be nice to mother earth. When you can get a proper job, and move out on your own, call home once in a while.
Eh, well my friend agrees with him (basically that there should be a worldwide 1 child policy because there are too many people on Earth). That may be true that we are overpopulated, but trying to enforce that would create chaos. Even China I think is in the process of repealing their 1 child policy. Plus it would probably be called anti-third world because a lot of the wealthy countries already have just 1 or 2 children.
@albermarle19 you are so stupid. he was making fun of it. he was RIDICULING it. do you understand humour at all? you don't ridicule something that you agree with.
this guy Lee was fucking retarded and insane. and so are you apparently.
I believe the man,Mr Lee,said to stop the breeding of parasitic LIBERALS.
He was also a big fan of Al Gore's book and movie. As was that liberal icon,Mr Unabomber Ted Kacinski.
I don't doubt that some other infamous crazies weren't loony lefties.but the ones you are probably thinking about e.g. Tim Mcveigh, weren't exactly loved by what you call "right-wing guys".
Another example of liberal terrorism is the show Whale Wars...criminals for a cause.
The book is just "Ishmael" not "My Ishmael" and it's about a talking gorilla so I don't know how rational that is for a philosophy. It certainly seems that the planet is grossly overpopulated and irresponsible but according to my mother, people thought this when she was little too. The fact is that if you have to control nature by breeding animals and roiding them up just so there's more food, something's wrong. Refuse medical service for child birth after 2 and watch it work itself out.
I love how you hear on people who gets nuts are usually watching propaganda or something that can be used against it......but this makes no sense at all it is the discovery channel! The only way they can give propaganda is saying "EARTH RULES!!! SO DOES SCIENCE!" this was funny but sad
Well lets see humans exhale CO2 and if you believe Al Gore CO2 is a magic deadly super gas that causes the day after tomorrow. I saw the "Inconvienent Truth" check the seen where Al Gore claims Greenland will melt and sea levels will rise 22 Ft. and then a few months ago Al Gore began construction on a Beach Villa in California. Ladies and gentlemen The Beach is at sea level Al Gore is a Liar please dont kill yourself or other people for Al Gore
If the guy was reading right wing books and watching FOX news TYT would blame what he was reading and watching on TV but because the guy was a fan of Al Gore and left leaning other reasons come into play. Limjaw and Fox news are no more hypocritical than TYT and Al Gore.Yeah the TYT crowd make a point about the nut agreeing with Limpjaw and right wing nuts on immigration and the peace movement. How many people know that the columbine killers agreed with the TYT types on equality and democracy.
he is not 'crazy'. he was stupid, overwhelmed, and irrational. i hear the same level of idiocy coming from both political parties, though the irony is generally underplayed.
i'd appreciate if you leave insanity as a term to describe someone unable to be understood... rather than a perturbed yet tragic figure; ridiculous in extravagance. cause i mourn his inability to see his thoughts being cast this way, or ironic antipathy in his humorous validation. character limits :/
So this guy is not left-wing, just nuts, but anyone who launches some kind of attack or attempt at an attack on a government building is definitely a right-winger? The truth is his views are similar to many environmentalist views. It's not a looney fringe environmental view, it's very mainstream. Even Ted Turner has expressed similar views. People need to wake up to how dangerous the environmental hysteria movement is.
Now you know this guy isn't any less mental than countries and people who think nuclear weapons and war is great. And your crazy sadism, and delusional social peer cults which lead to the afore mentioned family fun...so probably you're all gonna dig this to give you ding bats a slight bit of contrast.
C'mon, don't be hypocrites. When that guy went into the holocaust museum and shot a guard, you blamed the entire right wing. When that guy flew his plane into the IRS building, you tried to blame the right wing (even though he was a leftist.)
So..why don't we cut the bullshit and CONSISTENTLY call violent nut jobs exactly what they are-Criminally insane.
Stop playing partisan bullshit. We're all in this together, and it's a fucking mess.
Thumbs down for saying conservatives are all stupid.
Is this guy a card-carrying Democrat? Probably not. Did he get wound up by the environmentalist hyperbole that tries to claim the Earth will "die" if the temperature goes up a couple of degrees or if some bugs or poison frogs in the Amazonian rainforest go extinct? Absolutely.
If we could get everyone to watch Shark Week we would all understand our problems with each other are meaningless and stupid, turning to real problems, and eventually saving the world
I went to bed - but a thought kept passing over and over across my mind, to the point that I had to get back up ... I kept hearing your words, "...he was neutralized..." Neutralized?... Neutralized??.... What kind of inhuman, term is that to use? The more I watch you, the more frightening you become, Cenk. He was a human being. He needed medication, or something. Do you have any sensitivity?? I'm not blaming the police for what they had to do - but " ... NEUTRALIZED..."??? Unbelievable
I guess I don't get the point of this 'skit' ... making (such sad) fun of a man's psychosis ...? or how the GOP will respond?... pitiful... not to mention, disappointing.
@MistuhCoolio WRONG! he has NO point. He wants to show more programs on global warming, endangered species, etc? MAKE YOUR OWN CHANNEL, YOUR OWN WEB SHOW. Hostage situation is the wrong answer
I wouldn't be so opposed to calling this guy crazy if there weren't advisors in Obama's White House who share similar views, most notably John Holdren and Cass Sunstein.
I can get behind the spirit of his Ideology, but not his methods or specific ideas.
The Earth will fix itself if we stop hurting it. Us Humans will end up kicking our own asses before we obliterate life on earth. The Earth can take care of itself :)
@Saaduk92 I wasnt going to say anything to you but your a moron the planet is not over populated and if you really believe it is stop talking out of your ass and stand of for what you believe in try putting a bullet in your head. Im also curious about your "rational solutions" to overpopulation you find me one that doesn't involve mass murder or forced sterilization and i will give you a million dollars. Dont get all pissy when you read this either i just think about what your calling for
Two, of course the planet is populated. India has a child every second. The way resources are being used right now we'll be out of them within the next 50 years. Actually, they would have run out in the 70s had it not been for one man.
Three, stop watching so many movies. Mass murder or forced sterilisation? What kind of hollywood-esque life do you think everyone lives? Simply cap how many children each family can have(adjusted per country) and enforce it. Durr?
@Saaduk92 your a moron watch?v=vZVOU5bfHrM Cap how many children people can have seriously? Who gets to make that desicion if i have more than one child then what they get killed overpopulation is a myth and a pretty old one where the crisis has been rescheduled time and time again. Enforce it how? You need to just do the math and you'll figure out we are far from overpopulated and again i dont see you giving up your life so odviously your full of shit
One, the government will pick the number, and the cap could range from something like one to five depending on country and their situation. Of course, this will need analysis.
Two, who said anything about killing people who have more than one child? Get your head out of Hollywood.
Three, overpopulation isn't a myth. Like I mentioned before, the likes of Norman Bourlag saved over a billion people from starvation due to new discoveries.
@Saaduk92 How can the Govt. make a law controling the ammount of children in a free society i will have as many or as few children as i want and thier is plenty of food to go around in this world
watch?v=OXrN9HhnCcM&feature=channel all your doing is spitting out rediculous myths that you yourself dont believe because once again i will point to the fact that YOU are still ALIVE while at the same time saying population disaster maybe if you were a little more dedicated i would believe you
How are you not getting this? The Chinese already have this implemented, due to their colossal population they have it capped at one child to eventually bring it down. They don't enforce it very well, but that's another issue.
Two, this is *not* about the present. This is about the future. Putting your fingers in your ear and yelling "la la la!" won't fix this. Did I mention the world population is set to triple between 1950 and 2050?
@Saaduk92 The chinese are a free society? No and take a look at the social and economic problems that China is facing for thier one child policy. Thier male to female ratio will with in 30 years become a disaster secondly the great Mao Se Tung who implemented the one child policy just so happened to kill 60-70 million of his own people but that is too hollywood for you i guess. Thirdly most westernized nations already are below the replacement rate required to sustain population
No, no, no, you're misunderstanding the situation.
What do Chinese politics have to do with their population? Them not having a lot of freedoms and disproportionate male-female ratio isn't related to this. Who said anything about implementing Maoism?
I never said that western nations would require a cap. Right now there's only around a dozen countries that actually need it; in most parts of the world population density is fairly low. This is a concern for the future.
@Saaduk92 Only in a fascist state a govt. can control something as natural and as human as reproduction aka China. India's population which you brought up earlier will shrink as they become more westernized like almost every other western nation. I hate to assume you favor programs like medicare/SS but your plan to curb the next generations numbers will programs like that consider that
actually am more afraid of a Japan like senario (1.28 replacement rate) then your overpopulation theory
What does Fascism have to do with anything? That's simply a political system. Just because it's been misused in the past doesn't mean it only exists to limit freedom and bound you in chains.
Also, like I said, you're misunderstanding this. No one said the whole world requires one, most countries are still pretty sparsely populated. Right now only a few require it to make sure it doesn't conflict with the future.
Also, people are living longer, so the other eventuality WILL happen.
@Saaduk92 Believe what ever you want. If you dont think people have the right to have as many or as few kids as they want i dont really care If you really believe this isn't a freedom issue then thats up to you. When the time comes for this debate in terms of policy i will make sure my voice is heard and i think my side will win
@iamsean90 Suree there is food cause animals are bred just to be killed for food. What other animal does that? I read a story about Amazonian tribes who get killed off so the land can get developed the urban population overtaking the rural. Refuse medical service and tell these people to either learn to deliver babies themselves or stop having so many. You don't have to kill people now just have the population wane for the sake of longevity.
@eliosh the entire World Population could fit in just the state of Texas with .5 acres of land each that means that every family of 4 could live comfortablely on 2 acres of land in what is a big state but only a small portion of land compared to the rest of the world. The World is NOT overpopulated just do the math
@iamsean90 It's not land space as much as resources when people say it's overpopulated. A family of four could under no circumstances live off just what's in that 2 acres. Agricultural innovations are the only things that almost balance it excluding all the other harm. I mean there are big chunks of people who are starving now and it's also tough to find meaningful work with 100,000 others doing the same thing. It's not an immediate crisis but a concern for the future.
@eliosh Thier are plenty of resources on the planet there is enough food water and cheap energy for all i was meerly stating that people could fit in a small segmint of the world and use the rest to grow food and mine in thoery. And with advances in Tech we are growing food in less space and places though impossible before. I know you might say in your counter arguement we are running out of fossil fuels so i will premtively tell you coal/oil can power the planet for at least 200 more years
@iamsean90 No, fossil fuels don't seem like a true necessity to me although with commutes its becoming that way. All of earth isn't inhabitable anyway so land space doesn't matter. There's bound to be a cutoff for how much food farmers can provide but I don't know. I'm not too excited about the issue but if you have to count on others to control nature to subside then it's not a good sign.

turns out this guy was inspired by Al Gore, and another prime asshole Maurice Strong, the idiot who started the climate change craze
Strong believes in population control for the world. To that end he believes national governments are each to weak on their own to make the "right decisions" so we must be pushed for world government by UN.
There are many super progressives out there very dangerous to the world. Geo Soros of moveon.org is one.
Soros is trying to tell Canadians what TV to watch
@tarkus588 To your first question, no it hasn't cooled over last 20 years.
second, yes we are actually just in a natural fluctuation. Hopefully they will shut up when it gets cold again, but honestly i think the'll just say the cold came from it getting warmer, and then we'll have to listen to them complain even longer.
@GhostInTheShell29 I thought I remember one of the leading global warming "scientists" admitting that there was no evidence of warming over the last 20 years. I could be wrong...not a big deal.
But yes, no matter what happens, they will attribute it to climate change (convenient change of name!). Anyone else remember El Nino and La Nina?
To be specific its been argued that the rise in global temperature still falls at or below the amount it needs to rise to be statistically significant. So the rise in the last 20 years is within the bounds of reasonable errors in calculations, measurements and so on.
However its at the very top of these bounds, and there has been trends, so i feel its likely theres been some warming, but to be accurate there has been no significant warming on a global scale.
@GhostInTheShell29 before anyone jumps and attacks me for no "significant warming" I mean in the terms of math and statistics, not that it has no effects. Just that its not measurable beyond a level of any kind of certainty.
@GhostInTheShell29 You are incorrect on global warming not reaching levels of significance. I suspect that you're getting your information from Phil Jone's interview where he said that a certain 15 year period was not long enough to establish statistical significance because the time length was insufficient. He explained such in his BBC interview. If one looks at a wider timescale then significance is clearly established by the data.
@Asylumer heard of him, but no, i grr wish i could remember the name, i believe it was a female scientist who got kicked out of the field, when she pointed out on all their graphs that the temperature anomaly, was below .6 celcius. Which is also the margin of error on their own graphs.
Haven't looked at numbers recently not sure if its gone above that then.
@Asylumer But if you start with the time frame of when we first started recording temperatures accurately. Was also just have a mini ice age. So i always wondered why these figures that represent what the earth was when it wasn't that good for human life, are factored into what we consider normal? I think we'll be better off if we return to temperatures like we had during the medieval warm period.
Or for example a company that used bucket trucks (trucks with the extend able bucket on the back to work on power lines and ect.) In order to go green, they replaced their bucket trucks with newer more fuel efficient bucket vans. Now the vans didn't have space for all the gear and equipment so they attached trailers to the back. Well a trailer came off and killed 2 people. After investigation found van couldn't carry weight, so now two vans needed to be used for every job, to carry gear.
I love how people always think that FUTURE population is bad, while their existence is fine. "Hey, we should sterilize people...you know, over there...not me or my family...you know...someone I don't know."
@aarondavid826 fuck off you dumbass. euthanasia isn't the way. birth rate population control is. you're a pussy ass bitch. i bet you love riding atvs and cars and sports. you're a tumor to the planet
I find it hilarious how after two years of the liberals crying and screaming "Glenn Beck and the Tea Party encourage violence by protecting the constitution and defending liberty" yet there has not been A SINGLE incident of violence involving the Tea Party or anyone associated with the right. While on the other hand the liberals say humans are viruses, and that we must be exterminated, and then this guy comes along. How many more Democrats in Washington think like this guy? probably most.
@tehant1liberal Guy who flew plane into building in texas? the other week the taxi cab driver. I'd say hutaree militia, but then again the charges against them were pretty much bogus... But you could find a couple examples real quick on google. try a search.
@celestialsalamander Generally believe in global warming is accepted as a democratic view point. Though it is true that a minority of republicans, do also believe in global warming its not a majority like it is in democrats.
@tehant1liberal The Oklahoma city bombings, the Holocaust museum shooter, the multiple cop killers, Dr. Tiller's killer, Eric Rudolf, the guy who shoot up a liberal church, etc. Not a single incidence of violence? Why don't you check your facts?
Come on Cenk... you always blame the right wing for some of the stories you talk about, but now that there is someone who leans more with the left about the environment, you don't take it. I'm just saying, just trying to be fair.
@lfish34 Kind of a weird question but I'll give it a shot. Life is a DNA molecule that has gathered proteins around it to help it reproduce. Life consumes matter around it and energy from the sun to gain the capability to copy itself. Some life forms have evolved to take energy directly from the sun, while others have evolved to cannibalize other life forms for the matter and energy that they need to reproduce.
@metsfanal, That's a definition of life that comes from categorizing objects with certain attributes in life, dead or inanimate. I can see how this is a logical way to understand our surroundings, since we relate to this universe largely on an object level.
Objects are matter and according to string theory would be energy. In this way life would become a matter of energy wouldn't it? Could you explain life in terms of energy?
@lfish34 Wouldn't explaining life in energy simply be. Plants absorb solar energy, this solar energy is passed on to animals that eat the plants, and their energy is passed on to the animals that eat them. Really the matter we are made up of all just comes from the earth, but the sugars and energy we get is coming from a giant solar collector known as plant life.
@GhostInTheShell29, I don't think it simply would do so. To start, life doesn't need to consume or absorb energy from the sun (nor is it actually ever consumed or absorbed and the energy actually comes from particles interacting with matter), it just needs energy and as far as sciences currently understands, water. But this is beyond the point. What you're doing isn't explaining life in terms of energy, but defining it by certain characteristics, i.e. of how it interacts with energy.
@GhostInTheShell29, (2) I feel that in your rush and desire to answer the question you tried to oversimplify it. The matter we're made up of comes from the earth, yes, but where does it come from? It's an interesting train of thought, though my question didn't revolve around where matter or life for that matter, came from. It's about what matter itself is made up of on it's most basic level and what imlications it migth have. The nature of the question may have eluded you.
@GhostInTheShell29, (3) Also, a theoretical answer would probably be more applicable on a question derived from a theory. But the question about energy was just a lead in to my main and original question. What is life? Can you explain life in relation to reality and not the objects we encounter in it?
In this (four) dimensional reality we have found objects we can categorize as life. But what is it? In other words how does life relate to (this) reality? (not the objects in it).

HAHA!
Al Gore, young turk and the rest of the looney liberal climate fraud FEARMONGERS are fully responsible for this act of leftwing terrorism and the death of that man
This guy just spent too much time focusing on the negative. However, the fact of the matter is that we really are overpopulated. No one is going to become concerned until we're over 10 billion people or so. Just stupid people breeding like roaches.
@CrocodilleBile... Actually the problem is aging, people are refusing to die off. the number of children being born in the world, has been slowing down more and more, and in most the world less children are being born now then a generation ago. The problem is older people aren't dying fast enough, so the population continues to grow even in countries where there aren't a sustainable number of children for population growth.
@GhostInTheShell29 I disagree. In poor countries life expectancy is low- not just due to disease but due to war, famine. Sadly those are the countries that breed the most. Poor people should not breed.
@CrocodilleBile It is true that where the life expectancy rate is low, more children are born. However the humanist approach would be to help their economy, and increase life expectancy, and lower infant mortality rates. Where as the environmentalist approach is to kill them. Or increase the infant mortality rate, and poverty to try and offset the growth.
@GhostInTheShell29 You're leaving out Darwinism. Survival of the fittest applies to all species, humans included. So what if we waste billions of dollars at our expense to help third world countries- their beliefs, lifestyles, religions, culture will not always adapt. Let them invent their own vaccines- wait they do a drop of fly urine and three squirts of cobra venom should cure your pox. The bottom line is that less people mean better life quality for all the rest.
@CrocodilleBile Ok historical question what happened last time we tried social darwinism? if you don't know the answer ends with olocaust.
Why waste money? thats usually what we do in third world countries thats true, but really you could just invest it, and get a return. While also doing a better job lowering future populations, and improving their economies, increasing our foriegn markets to export too.. raising our quality of life as well.
@GhostInTheShell29 Holocaust was not natural. It was a forced genocide. That's different. Some people don't even acknowledge it because of their religious or political views. I don't see how pouring our billions that could better serve our country's infrastructure, quality of life and health is better off in a third world country. No immediate return in our lifetimes at least not to mention no guarantee on return. Enslaving a poor 3rd world nation with radical capitalism is not the answer.
But He's right, you people make fun of him openly, its a shame,.. maybe he could have worded it a bit better, but who would you want making these kinds of choices?

Dont get all pissy when you read this either i just think about what your calling for
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90
One, you're a moron.
Durr?
Saaduk92 1 year ago
@Saaduk92 your a moron watch?v=vZVOU5bfHrM Cap how many children people can have seriously? Who gets to make that desicion if i have more than one child then what they get killed overpopulation is a myth and a pretty old one where the crisis has been rescheduled time and time again. Enforce it how? You need to just do the math and you'll figure out we are far from overpopulated and again i dont see you giving up your life so odviously your full of shit
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90
Again you fail to comprehend my comment.
Saaduk92 1 year ago
@Saaduk92 How can the Govt. make a law controling the ammount of children in a free society i will have as many or as few children as i want and thier is plenty of food to go around in this world

iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90
*Sigh*
How are you not getting this? The Chinese already have this implemented, due to their colossal population they have it capped at one child to eventually bring it down. They don't enforce it very well, but that's another issue.
Two, this is *not* about the present. This is about the future. Putting your fingers in your ear and yelling "la la la!" won't fix this. Did I mention the world population is set to triple between 1950 and 2050?
Saaduk92 1 year ago
@Saaduk92 The chinese are a free society? No and take a look at the social and economic problems that China is facing for thier one child policy. Thier male to female ratio will with in 30 years become a disaster secondly the great Mao Se Tung who implemented the one child policy just so happened to kill 60-70 million of his own people but that is too hollywood for you i guess. Thirdly most westernized nations already are below the replacement rate required to sustain population
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90
Saaduk92 1 year ago
@Saaduk92 Only in a fascist state a govt. can control something as natural and as human as reproduction aka China. India's population which you brought up earlier will shrink as they become more westernized like almost every other western nation. I hate to assume you favor programs like medicare/SS but your plan to curb the next generations numbers will programs like that consider that
actually am more afraid of a Japan like senario (1.28 replacement rate) then your overpopulation theory
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90
Saaduk92 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@Saaduk92 Believe what ever you want. If you dont think people have the right to have as many or as few kids as they want i dont really care If you really believe this isn't a freedom issue then thats up to you. When the time comes for this debate in terms of policy i will make sure my voice is heard and i think my side will win
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90 Suree there is food cause animals are bred just to be killed for food. What other animal does that? I read a story about Amazonian tribes who get killed off so the land can get developed the urban population overtaking the rural. Refuse medical service and tell these people to either learn to deliver babies themselves or stop having so many. You don't have to kill people now just have the population wane for the sake of longevity.
eliosh 1 year ago
@eliosh the entire World Population could fit in just the state of Texas with .5 acres of land each that means that every family of 4 could live comfortablely on 2 acres of land in what is a big state but only a small portion of land compared to the rest of the world. The World is NOT overpopulated just do the math
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90 It's not land space as much as resources when people say it's overpopulated. A family of four could under no circumstances live off just what's in that 2 acres. Agricultural innovations are the only things that almost balance it excluding all the other harm. I mean there are big chunks of people who are starving now and it's also tough to find meaningful work with 100,000 others doing the same thing. It's not an immediate crisis but a concern for the future.
eliosh 1 year ago
@eliosh Thier are plenty of resources on the planet there is enough food water and cheap energy for all i was meerly stating that people could fit in a small segmint of the world and use the rest to grow food and mine in thoery. And with advances in Tech we are growing food in less space and places though impossible before. I know you might say in your counter arguement we are running out of fossil fuels so i will premtively tell you coal/oil can power the planet for at least 200 more years
iamsean90 1 year ago
@iamsean90 No, fossil fuels don't seem like a true necessity to me although with commutes its becoming that way. All of earth isn't inhabitable anyway so land space doesn't matter. There's bound to be a cutoff for how much food farmers can provide but I don't know. I'm not too excited about the issue but if you have to count on others to control nature to subside then it's not a good sign.

tarkus588 1 year ago
@tarkus588 To your first question, no it hasn't cooled over last 20 years.
second, yes we are actually just in a natural fluctuation. Hopefully they will shut up when it gets cold again, but honestly i think the'll just say the cold came from it getting warmer, and then we'll have to listen to them complain even longer.
GhostInTheShell29 1 year ago
@GhostInTheShell29 I thought I remember one of the leading global warming "scientists" admitting that there was no evidence of warming over the last 20 years. I could be wrong...not a big deal.
But yes, no matter what happens, they will attribute it to climate change (convenient change of name!). Anyone else remember El Nino and La Nina?
tarkus588 1 year ago
To be specific its been argued that the rise in global temperature still falls at or below the amount it needs to rise to be statistically significant. So the rise in the last 20 years is within the bounds of reasonable errors in calculations, measurements and so on.
However its at the very top of these bounds, and there has been trends, so i feel its likely theres been some warming, but to be accurate there has been no significant warming on a global scale.
GhostInTheShell29 1 year ago
@GhostInTheShell29 before anyone jumps and attacks me for no "significant warming" I mean in the terms of math and statistics, not that it has no effects. Just that its not measurable beyond a level of any kind of certainty.
GhostInTheShell29 1 year ago
@GhostInTheShell29 You are incorrect on global warming not reaching levels of significance. I suspect that you're getting your information from Phil Jone's interview where he said that a certain 15 year period was not long enough to establish statistical significance because the time length was insufficient. He explained such in his BBC interview. If one looks at a wider timescale then significance is clearly established by the data.
Asylumer 1 year ago
@Asylumer heard of him, but no, i grr wish i could remember the name, i believe it was a female scientist who got kicked out of the field, when she pointed out on all their graphs that the temperature anomaly, was below .6 celcius. Which is also the margin of error on their own graphs.
Haven't looked at numbers recently not sure if its gone above that then.
GhostInTheShell29 1 year ago
@Asylumer But if you start with the time frame of when we first started recording temperatures accurately. Was also just have a mini ice age. So i always wondered why these figures that represent what the earth was when it wasn't that good for human life, are factored into what we consider normal? I think we'll be better off if we return to temperatures like we had during the medieval warm period.
GhostInTheShell29 1 year ago
@GhostInTheShell29 Oh, that is right. Shame on me for forgetting that. Some people need a lesson in measurement and significant figures haha.

@metsfanal,
What is life?
lfish34 1 year ago
@lfish34 Kind of a weird question but I'll give it a shot. Life is a DNA molecule that has gathered proteins around it to help it reproduce. Life consumes matter around it and energy from the sun to gain the capability to copy itself. Some life forms have evolved to take energy directly from the sun, while others have evolved to cannibalize other life forms for the matter and energy that they need to reproduce.
metsfanal 1 year ago
@metsfanal, That's a definition of life that comes from categorizing objects with certain attributes in life, dead or inanimate. I can see how this is a logical way to understand our surroundings, since we relate to this universe largely on an object level.
Objects are matter and according to string theory would be energy. In this way life would become a matter of energy wouldn't it? Could you explain life in terms of energy?
lfish34 1 year ago
@lfish34 Wouldn't explaining life in energy simply be. Plants absorb solar energy, this solar energy is passed on to animals that eat the plants, and their energy is passed on to the animals that eat them. Really the matter we are made up of all just comes from the earth, but the sugars and energy we get is coming from a giant solar collector known as plant life.
GhostInTheShell29 1 year ago

@metsfanal,
In this (four) dimensional reality we have found objects we can categorize as life. But what is it? In other words how does life relate to (this) reality? (not the objects in it).
