  • Shup up idiot !!

  • you are killin' it old man, thanks for the lesson!

  • Always been one of my favourite Neil Young songs, many thanks for your informative lesson on how to play it. I've got The Needle and the Damage done about mastered, so it will be great to add this song to my repertoire. Cheers chap 👍

  • Thanks. Best tutorial for Tell Me Why I've found. Definitely helped me get the chorus and hammering on right.

  • cheers bro thanks

  • Excellent. Thanks

  • very helpful - THANKS :-)

  • Thanks for the great lesson.

    Could you please confirm something.

At the end of the chorus on the Em to get back to the start of the next verse do you hit the open A string then second fret A string followed by 3rd

  • Pretty damned slick !!!

  • thanks for this !!!

  • Just the type of lesson i'm looking for, man. Cant get the intro out of my head. Good lesson.

  • @absoluteabsence000 - yes, NY plays many of his songs tuned half step down ... I just didn't bother to do that (although it would probably help my singing greatly).

  • I like the way you play this song. There have been so many different interpretations of it in the tablature on the 'net, and it was hard to find a good lesson on this song when I was a kid first getting into guitar. I taught myself most of Neil's songs over many years and stopped using tabs but I like YouTube videos now. Just a few things here that were helpful that I already tried out, it makes my version sound closer to the album, which is cool, thanks and kudos for posting (people are mean!).

  • @bveracka - thanks! glad it was useful for you.

  • Thanks man

I cant beleve I taught my self the old fashen way books and records and playing with muscians better than me. Ive been a NY fananic all my life; even in the 80s when it wasnt cool. Good job and thanks thiers always something knew to learn, Ill be looken and contributing. Keap up the good work Its better to burn out.......

  • very good lesson great job merci good sound what sort of guitar is it? the frensh

  • @MrClaude57 - merci! The guitar is a 1969 Gibson C&W.

  • Very helpful KB, I learned alot form your lesson. Thanks from Cork, Ireland!

  • thank you!

  • Your a very great teacher and also one hell of a singer

  • great job i've learned from this one!

  • Great Lesson Man!

  • Great posting. After years i can finally play this song. Thanks very much.

  • I believe I started playing guitar because of this song. Neil Young can make more out of 3 basic chords than any other out there. You;ve slowed it down and helped (somewhat) to make it clear - I'll need years, Thanks also, for the added angle.

  • great lesson but........... that's not travis picking; it's hybrid picking. travis picking is when you are playing simultaneously the bass (with thumb) and the melody+harmony (with fingers), so that you are actually playing two distinct parts at the same time. your usage of your signature finger is part of the rhythm of the song, which means what you are doing is technically hybrid picking. check wikipedia under travis picking if you doubt me. much love,

    the captain

  • @letebaguere thanks for that clarification.

  • i wish i woulda met you 20 yrsago

  • Thanks buddy, really helpful.

  • Hi,

Many thanks for the lesson. I have made good progress thanks to you.

The thing I find hard is the right hand. Could you give any tips on how to strum the right hand ?

    Thanls

  • play the song in whatever key you like

  • Sorry - proofread before posting! I've been starting on the wrong chord - C, but doing the G bass walk - your way seems more intuitive. Thumbs up and thanks for your lesson.

  • Yeah - think that NY actually plays this tuned down 1/2 step ... but using the "G" progression ... so that could through you off if playing by ear.

  • Thanks. Oh no, I've been starting on the chord for 35 years!

  • Thanks for the great lesson!

One question: is there a technique to properly use the signaturefinger in this song. I manage to hit the B-snare off course, but don't seem to get any rhythm out of it.... Tnx!

  • oh this guitar looks like my :D Adams guitar

  • Hey: the sixteen yearolds don't have a monopoly on cool cause you got a good portion of it yourself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I found it very useful.

  • Thanks for the lesson. Very easy to follow. I hadn't played a guitar for 10 years, but was inspired to buy one again after listening to After the Goldrush. I'm delighted to discover that I still ROCK! (With a little help from yourself).

  • very good lesson

  • thanks

  • great paddy - glad this could be of some help.

  • Can't really see, so I'm trying to listen note by note - do you have a tab so I can see ? Anyway thanks for even doing a lesson, it wil help eventually, I hope and I'll be able to play it. Thank you very much.

  • Sorry - I don't do tab. Keep workin' at it ... it's a great tune and once you get the hammer-on thing going it will get very easy to play.

  • thanks for the video, it taught me well.

  • glad it could help you!

  • I won't quit my day job (lol)... but, glad this helped you.

  • This is a great video. KB, thanks for posting, I'll echo the comment, you may not be a teacher by trade, but you have the gift to teach.

  • I don't know if it helped him but it sure helped me. Thanks for posting. You might not be a teacher by trade, but this was a great lesson. Nice and slow, showed the song with both hands at the same time, then showed just the left hand, zoomed in on the guitar work. I think these are all the things that go into a good youtube lesson.

  • Great! I'm glad this could help you ... it's a great song , and fun to play. Enjoy!

  • This is just exactly what I needed - thanks a lot!

  • Glad this helped.

  • greetings from greece-thanks for the lesson
