I adore Evanescence!! They are amazing live and Amy Lees voice is magical!! I saw them live and they sounded better than the cd. I know that a lot if times when television station are airing a live performance they do something with the music and the actual singing so it is separate so when you watch it on tv you are hearing just raw vocals with the music added and that is why it sounds somewhat off but if you were to be there and see it live it is much better with it all put together and natur

i record professionally ok and i deal with music and u have to really have an ear.. i timed when she stopped playing with the piano and it was not pre-recorded. also would like to add working with amy a FEW quote me only a FEW times a the one of three studios i work for. never have i heard of her even wanting a recorded version of this song to be played, she does her OWN piano songs such as my immortal breathe no more people are strange (the doors cover) and thoughtless (korn cover)
do you people know nothing? The "piano" was a synth pre-recorded. The orchestra being professinoals took note that the song was recorded on the synth 1/2 step down so they immediately compensated without having to play the first note. The band, being the un-educated morons they are didn't even notice and REALLY biffed the song for her. Her voice struggled there but she was doing ok, until the band showed up.
usualy when u play with an ochestra u play 1/2step down everything was fine that means the guitar tech forgot to tune the guitar 1/2 step down... when u don t know music u think it s amy s fault so sad afther that everything went downhill for the band!
The orquestra and the piano were one key below the original tone of the song, and they all managed to perform perfectly until the band started playing at the end because the guitarist played on the original tone, and ruined everything, she was ver frustrated and wanted to cry! I would've killed him jaja! but that's why she said wow! she explained it at an interview.
It was Amy's fault. they play this song 1/2 step down live b/c it's easier on her voice. the conductor told her at the beginning that the piano was in the wrong key, but she played it there anyways. orchestra did great on the fly though. i will admit, the band should have been able to figure it out. move everything 1 fret up and they would have been in the right key.
i'm a bit confused. they play it 1/2 step down compared to the studio version or 1/2 step down from the standard guitar tuning? cause i can hardly understand why would anyone want to tune the piano 1/2 step down... to me it sounds like the band somehow forgot they're supposed to play it differently this time. anyways, it sounds horrendous even though the guitars are mercifully low in the mix. must have been a nightmare to listen to in the hall.

People, the piano, vox, orchestra (and drums, haha) are in the correct (Ab) key (down a half step from the album and single). Notice how it only goes bad when the band kicks in.
The guitar tech who tuned the fretted instruments was probably fired.
So Evanescence may have done rehearsals in some way and when Amy's tune was changed, Terry and John (I can't understand if the bass was out of tune too) still played in the tune of the rehearsals... I think it's something like that.
Ooooooooo sad... I love that band and I wonder how that happened...! I know that all members have special musical skills (especially Amy and Terry) and don't understand what went wrong... Maybe they made a last minute change to Amy's piano in order to tune in to the orchestra. The guitars went out of tune, not the piano....

alarandiia = smartest person here. Amy is singing and playing piano in the key of A flat, and the orchestra is in A flat as well. The original song is in the key of A, and the guitar/bass players played in the key of A. There was some kind of communication error here, end of story. I won't make the assumptions that alarandiia has, but they are totally right about the different keys.

Evidentemente el piano no estaba afinado como deberia haberlo estado. Ella adapto su voz a la afinacion del piano...en ese caso hubiera sido mejor que la banda no entrara a tocar, sino que terminara el tema solo ella con el piano. Era obvio que cuando emepzara a tocar la iban a estar fuera de sintonia...

thats how involved personally she is with these certain songs.. and yeah ive worked with her the most an hour, but still if she starts something stage recording what ever it is she fallows through with it *unless what had happend when clearly the adapter cord that connects the guitar to the adapter came unplugged and she gets thrown off key and lost with piano* its happened to everyone who performs including i but we laugh about mistakes like that. but pre recorded please... thats NOT Amy Lee!!!

You can see the synth was pre-recorded because at some point towards the end she just stops playing and the piano continues on.

do you people know nothing? The "piano" was a synth pre-recorded. The orchestra being professinoals took note that the song was recorded on the synth 1/2 step down so they immediately compensated without having to play the first note. The band, being the un-educated morons they are didn't even notice and REALLY biffed the song for her. Her voice struggled there but she was doing ok, until the band showed up.

usualy when u play with an ochestra u play 1/2step down everything was fine that means the guitar tech forgot to tune the guitar 1/2 step down... when u don t know music u think it s amy s fault so sad afther that everything went downhill for the band!

The orquestra and the piano were one key below the original tone of the song, and they all managed to perform perfectly until the band started playing at the end because the guitarist played on the original tone, and ruined everything, she was ver frustrated and wanted to cry! I would've killed him jaja! but that's why she said wow! she explained it at an interview.

It was Amy's fault. they play this song 1/2 step down live b/c it's easier on her voice. the conductor told her at the beginning that the piano was in the wrong key, but she played it there anyways. orchestra did great on the fly though. i will admit, the band should have been able to figure it out. move everything 1 fret up and they would have been in the right key.

i'm a bit confused. they play it 1/2 step down compared to the studio version or 1/2 step down from the standard guitar tuning? cause i can hardly understand why would anyone want to tune the piano 1/2 step down... to me it sounds like the band somehow forgot they're supposed to play it differently this time. anyways, it sounds horrendous even though the guitars are mercifully low in the mix. must have been a nightmare to listen to in the hall.

I think the band usually plays it in an original higher key. And her piano & orchestra were down a step...At least they could keep playing on. I would have stopped playing if I heard my instrument way off like that!

People, the piano, vox, orchestra (and drums, haha) are in the correct (Ab) key (down a half step from the album and single). Notice how it only goes bad when the band kicks in.
The guitar tech who tuned the fretted instruments was probably fired.

So Evanescence may have done rehearsals in some way and when Amy's tune was changed, Terry and John (I can't understand if the bass was out of tune too) still played in the tune of the rehearsals... I think it's something like that.

Maybe they made a last minute change to Amy's piano in order to tune in to the orchestra. The guitars went out of tune, not the piano....

alarandiia = smartest person here. Amy is singing and playing piano in the key of A flat, and the orchestra is in A flat as well. The original song is in the key of A, and the guitar/bass players played in the key of A. There was some kind of communication error here, end of story. I won't make the assumptions that alarandiia has, but they are totally right about the different keys.
