  • All the mistakes seem to happen during this song

  • Guys, how does he get the 'fade in' sort of effect at 1:08. Looks pretty simple, but what is the actual technique?...thanks guys...I really want to try this...

    Cheers

  • @ahadshahid While distorted as hell, turn the volume down, play the note and then, turn the volume up. You can do the same using a volume pedal.

  • The guitar needed a breather...Can't blame it when u r being played at 4 billion bps

  • 0:52 for text message received!

  • The guys watching were forced to laugh at petrucci's jokes. If they didn't, he would personally execute them.

  • John was playing too fast for it to be audible. That's all.

  • Volume pedal, Mr. Petrucci. It's your friend. ;)

  • what does john say? I can't hear him. :(

  • @kilipeti Im asking the same question :-)

  • @kilipeti

0:45 "You know, all this equipment and damn, you think myself would work."

0:55 "I use only the finest of equipment."

1:00 "I guarantee it usually works, really well."

1:03 "It got shipped from New York, I think something happened."

    1:11 "There it is."

  • yeah yeah, still anyone of yo can play like me

  • He went into world domination mode but focused all his energy on his guitar, just to see what would happen

  • What a bad feeling when musicians suddendly stop a song...

  • @TheAlphafly I think it helped that it was Liquid Tension and not like Dream Theater; just a smaller gig. Just the fact that Petrucci was able to talk casually to the crowd. And I mean what can he really do if his rig suddenly goes down. I'm sure people understand lol

  • The guitar was too tired to play because of the awesomeness of Petrucci

  • what is the title of a song the part of which was played here?

  • @rafapak Universal Mind

  • @IsraelSilvaMonje

    thanks!

  • omfg a few years later on the same track, rudess keyboard brokes.. there must be something about that nice universal mind song :D

  • how come shit always break during LTE concerts?

  • For a few moments he became mortal..talked to the crowd as an equal. Then reverted back to a God and tore the roof off.

  • PETRUCCI WAS PLAYING SO FAST HE MELTED THE STRINGS, BUT HE MADE THEM AGAIN WITH HIS MIND

  • 0:46 Mike should have done one of those punchline fills. Ba-dum tjjj.

  • oops, volume knob.

  • "There is no sound."

And God (Petrucci) said: "Let there be sound!"

  • what did really happen?

  • no world domination mode... :/

  • Petrucci before steroids...(just kidding).

They handled it well. It's good when you can laugh stuff off and keep flowing...

  • @MarkHarrellJr No. But really.

  • whole rest whole rest whole rest whole rest.......

  • What did he say at 0:45?

  • @Niekpas "You know, with all this equipment at NAMM, you'd think my stuff would work."

  • What song is it? Sounds awesome <3

  • @BlazzyAce Universal mind by Liquid Tension Experiment

  • Ibanez!! <3

  • Naa...his guitar was really broken...but...while he was talking...he give the guitar autofix system enought time to work..

    XD

  • damn namm equipment lol

  • was he in WORLD DOMINATION mode ??

  • is he fucking alternative picking the solo in the beginning XD fuck

  • "universal mind" is known to cause instrument failures

  • Its not broken... his 4 billion notes per second produces such a high frequency that we mere mortals can't hear it. He's lucky he realized he had to slow himself down otherwise the audience would have been vaporized...dead people are no good for album sales.

  • it happens. i dont know wtf it was but it happens.

  • causes: his stomp tuner or the volume pedal for his volume swells. i think he forgot to turn the pedal up

  • Obviously the guitar wasn't used to being raped/shredded upon at speeds surpassing the speed of light. Needed a bit of warming up. To 9000* celcius. Luckily the crowd had a few moments to prepare for Killzone mode, approx half of the survivors managed to crawl out to safety after the concert finish

  • @dvsdez hahahahaha

  • The good old days...when Petrucci and the rock and roll hair, played Ibanez, had a killer tone and the world was good...

  • yep, not like the mud he's using today.

  • @esa1810 yes, because we all know that MusicMan is a bad guitar brand.............. right

  • @n1ll3r ..not so much Ernie Ball as much as the rack crap he's using...I have a MM, very nice.

  • no the rudesses dirty organ kept playing oh wait this one was a clean orgna

  • it's rudess's keyboard that's broken!

  • what did he say?

  • He probably just had the tuner on haha John petrucci rocks!

  • It's something about this song, isn't it? Keyboard breaks one time, the guitar brakes another time?

  • Succede anche ai migliori :-))

  • jesus christ petrucci is fucking amazing

  • haha the mess up and then he plays the whole thing perfectly

  • no...it's Tony Levin

  • haha, I cant believe I missed the lack of hair :p

  • Just look at the speed!.. Beats most Thrash Metal guitarrists I know!..

  • that's cool, warming up the audience

  • Cool, they handled that situation really well....=]

  • its not broken, its just technical prob i think

  • No no the guitar was simply afraid of the 4 thousand notes per second beating it was about to get from John in killzone mode. The pickups failed from fright. And the amp was freaking out a little too having to voice each of those notes

  • poor guitar! it should be respected for the amazing amount of beating it takes!!

  • yeah and so are mike portnoy and jordan rudess

  • I never heard of Liquid Tension Experiment until recently. But that's probably why they're so damn good lol.

  • ahm yes. he's also in dream theater. ;D

  • are u stupid

  • No, I just never really listened to Liquid Tension Experiment until recently.

  • What the fuck. I JUST RECENTLY found out about Liquid Tension Experiment. Don't be a fucking shithead.

  • This isn't Dream Theater even though 3/4 of the band are in D.T. That's Tony Levin playing the stick, although John Myung does also play Chapman Stick

  • 0:19-0:20

what god looks like when he's flustered over human errors.. :P

  • Guitar breaks... A few jokes... And then, the gods of prog proceed to play Universal Mind... Amazing! GRANDE DREAM THEATER, GRANDE LTE!!

  • His playing is beyond awesomeness

  • their road crew was executed shortly after this song.

  • ..and do you know how they were executed? With a drum, guitar, keyboard, and bass solo all at the same time.

    Now that's deadly.

  • @OwnedRL their road crew was executed during this song!

  • @OwnedRL Hahah xD

  • @OwnedRL by 4.5 billion notes per second

  • @OwnedRL with one left alive to tell the story.

  • @rurens2 One, AKA, the camera.

  • he was Ibanez's image for a long time before using Ernie Ball Music Man... That Picasso guitar was one of his signatures guitars...

  • mm no, not strange at all

  • lol back in the 90's that is basically all he used.

  • haha thats hilarious

  • haha i love how they can just start up a song they completely messed up on and just play it like nothing happened! petrucci is jesus btw.

  • Petrucci is so awesum!!

  • i always play that lick at 1:19!

it's my favorite and i forgot where it was from until now

  • the thing is, someone stupid enough changed his special guitar forged in pure steel-gold-adamantium with diamond frets with some other human guitar, therefore the first 10 million notes he played in a sec totally smoked that poor guitar

  • lmao, that is hilarious!!!

  • a comment truly deserving to such a clip

  • @daspidrr Plus his rig wasn't right that was why the sun expanded three time its size, cuz petrucci couldn't controlled it that time.

  • @daspidrr the poor guitar cant catch up with JP's skills so the guitar gave up lol ^_^

  • @daspidrr too much RS ?

  • @daspidrr Dude! Best comment ever! LMAO

  • @daspidrr You forgot, that his guitar was forged in a dying star.

  • Universal Mind is one of the best songs ever..

  • lol this wasnt JPs day, this and the other video of him messing up at the end.

  • i can't believe that flawless playing at the end of the video

  • lol I bet its not just a Mark II C+ here, I mean he sure has more shit that process the signal. JP always had a killer tone.

btw, he playes the part flawlessly.

  • that is some extremely BAD-ASS distortion. dam! anyone know what he uses.

  • He is using a Mark II C+ here.

  • theres only one of them in the world @nd there m@de by gh@ndi

  • So anyone else notice how no one cued anybody, MP just counted off and everyone was perfectly together. That is real synergy

  • That's the way it works, you start whenever the drummer says, and play how fast he says (as a drummer I love that control)

  • Haha, yeah, as a guitar player I hate that lol. Cuz it's so instinctive that even when we are discussing something, our drummer will count off when he has that drummer ADD kick in and we don't get much business done... but lots of playing!

  • as a guitarist i would usually queue the band by doing muted picks.. but we desided our drummer should do it instead later on.

  • We never do stuff like that. When we are on stage it's just that we know what we are doing on our part and timing. It's a bunch of human metronomes... I don't think we even notice each other haha.

Then again in practice its all bouncing off everyone over and over so I guess it goes both ways.

    Did that even make sense?

  • I think it works differently for every band. Usually, my band take their cue from the songwriter of particular song we're playing, as the tempo is firmer in that person's head than the rest. That said, it always seems to come back to the drummer to make sure that the pulse is secure. Interesting stuff...

  • Truly. everyone is different and everyone still kicks ass haha!

  • well we are laying on the lead instrument, usually is the piano, and both piano and drums lead the all things, as drummer i had hard time until our guitarist get in this type of thinking.

  • Can someone plese tell me what did he said?

    xD

  • Not the guitar's fault.... They forgot turn the volume level on the amp xD :D

  • ...and then proceeds to play universal mind perfectly...

    haha

  • He forgot to switch it, the god mode humbucker

  • it was in "world domination mode", it should have been in "annhilation mode"

  • The guitar was broken by Petrucci's awesomeness level.

  • totally agree

  • hehehe nice one m8 X)

  • Fuckin' hillarious, lol.

  • ohh hhohohoho ibanez just simply couldnt handle jp's fingers melting the circuits from within. that why he had to switch to music man because ibanez simply couldnt make a guitar that withstands the temperature of the sun

  • i think Mr.Ibanez was killed that day thus why he couldn't fix it and made a switch

  • And the world has yet to make a guitar capable of handling a petrucci solo. When will they learn his guitars can only be constructed of pure bolts of lightning thrown by zeuss himself.

  • that's why mr. ibanez is dead.

  • LOLOLOLOLOL

  • lol. I love how after he fixes the problem, he switches right back into God Mode.

  • "god mode"

    lol

  • lmao

damn i need one of those switches

Marshall Harrison Mode =O gaahhhhhh *head explodes*

  • Tony Blair must have fucked up when he was hand wiring those pickups

  • HAha win.

  • Could someone write what MP and JP say?

    Thanks :D

  • Ah, the wonders of playing live and having your shit fuck up on you.

  • John Petrucci used only the finest products.

  • I liked that, that was pretty funny.

  • this was on purpose. too many fans were in denial that petrucci was actually human, so he was like "i better make a 'mistake' and they'll all be fooled". he then laughed maniacally in his head, then threw off the current in his equipment with his mind.

  • lol nice

  • LOL!

  • he was letting everyone think for a moment that they were going to get out alive

  • and there's the reason why Petrucci chwitched to Music Man...

Ibanez are great guitars...but EBMM are godlike

  • I don't think that was it but it doesnt matter since the ibanez was a great guitar but the Music Man... dang!!! an even greater guitar!!!

  • Yeah, him smiling at 50 seconds was just a diversion for the bomb he planted

  • this has absolutely nothing to do with universal mind, but has to do with acid rain why DT as theyselfs don't play it?

I mean in instrumedley they use a bit of universal mind but what happens to acid rain?

sorry if I used bad english I'm not from an english country so I hope you understand

    thanks :)

  • DT just decided not to add acid rain to instrumedley, it's as simple as that. It might be in some other medley, but they just didn't use it for Instrumedley

  • "My kill zone mode switch is broken..."

  • ever*

  • When the people left the show they were stripped of all memory of this every occuring

  • Yeah I understand...

LTE and Dream theater are the one of the best band ever, and Rationallity is right, even if they are the same writters, and still music style is different...

But thats not all, the inclusion of Levin and the ausecence of Myung and Labrie make LTE music with Levin writting style within Myung and Labrie writting style.

  • Lol pause at 50 secs. Little does the crowd know petrucci sent a virus throughout the crowd

  • i love this song

  • ke sfiga però mi dispiace povero john :'(

  • how big is this venue?

  • Holy fuckin shit that was nice when he kicked into it tho...

  • lmao why does it seem to me like a lot of things go wrong when LTE is performing?

  • its alot less rehearsed that a dream theater show

  • wait what does he say i cant here him

  • yeah you are right, thanks for that.

  • O wonder why John Myung doesnt participate in liquid tension experiment, he plays better than Tony Levin (in my opinion), can anyone tell me why doesnt Myung participate in this project?

    Thanks

  • When Portnoy was starting the project he wanted to make it as separate as possible from DT. The only reason Petrucci joined is because he couldn't get dimebag(no complaints here!), and Rudess joined the band after LTE.

With Myung in LTE it would basically be DT sans-LaBrie.

  • its because petrucci and portnoy were trying to woo jordan into joining DT.
