The Shah had a point. When the price of oil in the worldwide market is cheap, no one has a problem. It's when it gets expensive that it becomes a problem, because wester prosperity depends on aquiring cheap energy. that is not true that the dynasty before shah destroyed the country. It was british plot to change the dynasty in order to prevent democracy in Iran. According to my readings, the Shah was very much puppet of Washington and its masters, but took a turn during the 1970s, so then Washington needed him to be "sacrificed" and didn't do anything to stop the Iranian Revolution of the late 1970s, when the Shah was finally replaced with I guess nothing better in many respects, though while it apparently is better, today, at working on Iranian sovereignty.
Shah was apparently bad for decades, but came to change for the better; I've read.

I don't know of many good websites to recommend to learn about the 1953 history of the Washington-lead coup d'état, what basically worked out to be one anyway, to; but, globalresearch . ca has recommendable articles that mention this history and of the Shah, who became a US puppet and should've never accepted to benefit from the Washington-lead overthrow of the prior leader who apparently was very good. Saddam Hussein made a similar mistake, against the prior leader in Iraq, for Washington.

I would add that if you want to grade two regime's performance overall. Shah's get -2 and Mullahs get -100. Well it speaks itself which one was better, but it is the matter of choosing between bad and worse. I would say why we don't demand for the good for our future. True democracy, where there is not a privilege group like "Royal Family" to us. Where different political views are tolerated. When there is a fair distribution of income and wealth spread put throughout the nation.

First I have to clear this out that if someone like me criticizes the Shah's regime and the Shah performance and belief system, it does not mean the approval for the current regime at all. I am completely agree that the Shah's performance in our economy section and foreign policy was way better than the current corrupted monster regime. The Shah had a point. When the price of oil in the worldwide market is cheap, no one has a problem. It's when it gets expensive that it becomes a problem, because wester prosperity depends on aquiring cheap energy. His prosperity depends on higher prices of the product that his country, and many of the countries of the Middle-East are exporting to the West.

The Shah and the Pahlavis were not perfect and as each day passes from that dark day in Feb of 1979 the world realizes more & more how vital he was to the stability of the world if not the region. The saddest part of this dark conspiracy of the 20th cent is the majority of the Persian still don't know who he really was and what he meant to them. He would've been the 2nd Cyrus given time. BTW there's no such thing as middle east that a derogatory term invented by the brits.

@payambreaker Hello. Why do you say this? I do not understand why Jimmy Carter would finance Khomeini, when the Shah was quite anti-Communist, and effectively crushed the Tudeh. Furthermore, it was the Americans that helped overthrow Mossadeq and re-install the Shah.
Anyway, I hope the great Persina people will overthrow the Islamist barbarians - and Veleyat a Faqih,become no more than a page in history. Long live and prosper, the secular Persian people!

@projectivolume But, with the prior said, Washington was extremely responsible for the Shah coming to power, the USA saw to it, secretly, including for by far most USA'ns. Washington and its masters distanced themselves when the Shah became business-unfriendly-like during the 1970s, so the Shah could be outed by Iranians, who didn't get much, if any better afterwards, but while neither regime is anywhere as bad as Washington and its masters are. Lesser evil isn't blessed, btw.
