  • if only the weekend was like this...

  • what about the cut??

  • LEAAAARNING THE PEE-ANNO?!

  • Amazing, but hate it when shows/films use incorrect British Army Ranks and names used for said ranks. He's a Colour Sergeant and they call him "Sarge" "Only 3 Sarges in the Army, Massarge, Passarge and Sausarge, and call me Sarge again and I will Massarge your Passarge with my Sausarge!"

  • NEVER call a Colour / Staff Sergeant " Sarge " they would rip off your undercarriage !! Classic MP , the camp drill sketch was even funnier , as ex British Army that made me piss!!

  • did he say meow

  • Anybody know where I can get some boot polish? I've been looking everywhere

  • @Travellinghobo2

  • LMFAO!!!!!

  • @ataturkwashomo was hilarious

  • fuck that bootpolish

  • i love how his voice gets higher every time XD

  • LEARNING THE PIANO ?!

  • I love it when he says "marching up and down the square".

  • ..always the best

  • I love Michael Palin in this sketch :D

  • silly limeys....going to war in sweaters....

  • @wilky1189 ....? Are you that retarded?

  • @LordWellington15 ....? what? it amuses me that part of the british army uniform is a sweater. also, the short shorts and big socks. it's very silly to me.

  • @wilky1189 Ugh, I dont even want to argue with you. Maybe when you read a book and figure out what uniforms the British Army wears, and why the are pictured wearing wool sweaters here, then, maybe, you will realize how much of a fool you are.

  • @wilky1189

they wear sweaters because it's cold. Are you really so dumb?

  • @HelmutVillam what's wrong with jackets?

  • Reminds me of the old Viet Nam era phrase, "What if they gave a war and nobody came?" As true today as is was then. Sorry Drill Sgt., I'd much rather be roaring around in my sports car, picking up chicks, or if it came to that, just watching the game with an ice cold beer.

  • the guy at 0:46 (a little bit to the right of Eric) is trying not to laugh xD

  • Anyone Ex-Army and loved this?

  • HAHAHA! at 0:39 i pissed myself laughing

  • He says Sergeant Major marching up and down the square but he's a Staff Sergeant o.O

  • @inamonianim

    he is a sargeant major

check out the crown above his rank

  • @LOUISVART 3 Stripes and a crown is Staff/Colour Sergeant, not Sergeant Major. A Sergeant Major AKA Warrant Officer is identified by either a lone Crown or A Coat of Arms (Warrant officer Class 2 and 1 respectively.

  • RUBISH!

  • Pretty sure the Grenadier Guards don't wear hackles. And the flaming grenade typically identifies a Fusilier regiment, like the one I belonged to.

  • @MrComatost

The "grenade fired proper" is the cap badge of the Grenadier Guards, granted the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers' is similar, but you'd expect them to wear the plume as well if they were supposed to be from that regt. Still, this is Monty Python so I doubt accuracy was any concern and neither should it have been!

  • @jimjamism Thanks. Like I said...I was pretty sure; I just wasn't positive. Never knew that guard regiments also wore the grenade.

  • @MrComatost the hand of God doesn't just appear in the sky that often either.

  • @hyperdeath84 umm...yeah...okay....if you say so...i guess

  • i like marching up and down thank you .

  • why has this been cut down? the pause moments make it so much better

  • lol, he is airborne! defo! (they are really grenader guards)

  • @imaplaystationfanboy Are you honestly saying Monty Python was trying to promote discipline within the armed forces? If so...what have you been smoking?

All I got from this, is that it was satirical...mocking the pointless activities that some armed forces use regularly.

  • LEARNING THE PIANO!? XD

  • a) You don't salute the sergeant-major, do you? b) would a sergeant-major drill a platoon? We only ever got a sergeant, tops!

  • @kevinastraw how can you fucking stand this? take yo army white ass back to iraq they need you

  • @Scania4life You can be funny and accurate. Perhaps you could engage your brain for once instead of smearing the comment page with your gross, intemperate, racist, illiterate and moronic shit. Mind you, it's a wonder you can type having to take your knuckles off the ground while you do it.

  • @kevinastraw -.- i was just fooling with ya, this vid here is just a parody of the english army. nobody cares if this are 100 % accurate, they only care if it s funny or not

  • @Scania4life Out of the 50,000 people who have watched this, about, say, 4000 who have been in the army will be wondering why the sergeant major is being saluted etc. If the men were dressed in white boiler suits on parade then the other 46,000 would be wondering why. When you tell a joke about the British army (there is no such entity as the English army) to a lot of people who are familiar with that army it is better to be accurate.

  • @kevinastraw get a life- it's comedy you buffoon

  • Did you just call me Sarge?! There's only two types of sarge's; a saus-sarge, and a mass-sarge. Are you saying I mass-sarge my saus-sarge?! Are you calling me a wanker?!

  • @ZombieMonkeyNZ Have heard another version of this from Sgt Majors: There are only 3 types of Sarge! Saus-sarge, mass-sarge and pass-sarge. If you call me Sarge again, I'll mass-sarge a saus-sarge up your pass-sarge!

  • @gmanlondon I'll have to use that one next time someone calls me sarge! lol

  • ... ah, the democracy has her good sides!

  • 10 people would rather be marching up and down the square.

  • LOL he almost lost his cover at one point. Palin is EPIC!

  • You have to be in the army to know about the humour

  • forrest gump

  • Right! looks like 10 wankers don't know good military humour with a bit of good olde Monty twist on it! Well bugger off then ya silly sods!

    USMC 83-86

  • i love the way palin yells at them. especially when he says "would you now?" and "learning the piano?"

  • DON'T STAND THERE GAWPING, LIKE YOU NEVER SEEN THE HAND OF GOD BEFORE!

  • @SidRulz100 yer fakin' spot on with that comment!

  • @anynameplease Uhh........... thanks?

  • "Well, to be quite honest, Sergeant, I'd rather get me head blown off."

Let's see how the Sarge reacts to THAT!!!

  • @Tizmaole Allright off you... wait what?

  • It's a shame the whole movie wasn't nearly as funny as this bit.

  • @pulpstress there were funnier parts than this one, but this is also very funny.

  • Hey can we trade your Palin for ours, I am sure Sarah would love it in the UK.

  • Palin's pacestick is too short I suppose? lol

  • Micheal Palin Is AMazing

  • lol i wish all the generals were as nice LOL

  • This and Pontius Pilate (The Life of Brian) are my favorite Palin characters.

  • That is unless any of you got anything betta to doOOOOO

  • I like to think that this scene was the inspiration for the General in Chibi Robo ^_^

  • /watch?v=hEXb9q2XT5M

  • Haha...we may all laugh, but my drill instructor Sgt Chester RAF sounded just like Palin...we all wanted to burst out laughing, but did not bloody dare. Never got to the flicks either!...lol

  • funny enough my name is Atkinson lol

  • Hmph, rather inept commanding officer, ay wot??

  • Back when I was in the U.S. Army we used to imitate this sketch. Loved it and we weren't even British.

  • @m2101j "when i was in the us army...we weren't even british" no kidding.

  • @wilky1189 You can be British and be in the US army you fucking moron, heard of citizenship tests

  • @abarford1 if you take a citizen test, than you're a us citizen, right? that means you're american.

  • @wilky1189 No fag it means you're an american citizen but you are still British .... dont go insulting people before you stop and think if you're being a stupid fag

  • @m2101j the us army isn't british? you don't say

  • "Well , to be quite honest...... id rather be home with the wife and kids" XD

  • morello is not polish, its paint!

  • The clip is funny, and I'd share it, but it's basically just an ad so I won't subject anyone else to a pitch for shoe polish.

  • i saw this when i was in selection it was funny then and funny now. i just with real training was like that, owell happy to fight and march for my queen and country :D

  • I think the old uniform looked much smarter than the present one.

  • I wonder if they did it all in one take, which must have been quite difficult!

  • I would march AROUND the square, carrying an Ultamian flag inside my musket. That'll show 'em!

  • WOULD YOU NOW?!?!?!

  • lol boot polish ad...

  • "LEARNING THE PIANO!!!!!" hahah

Just one of the sketches that further instills my python favourtism for mr palin. Pure genius.

  • "Democracy and humanitarianism have always been trademarks of the brittish army... Rubbish!"

  • @Sehcks : I served 12 years in the British Army and believe it or not, it is in fact a very humanitarian organisation, not only to it's serving soldiers but also to others that may ibe involved in it's sphere of operation. It has always tried to do it's best, whatever the cicumstances.

If the chips were down, I would back the British Army over any other UK organisation. Full stop. Democracy? Hardly possible in any disciplined fighting force.

  • @md0u9186 Exactly. The army is there to protect democracy. Not to practice it.

  • @md0u9186 So would I, and I'm not even British.

  • The performance of M.P. is awesome as usual, unfortunately the quality of this video isn't. I prefer another version...sorry silkster.

And now I'm going outside for a little marching up and down the square ;-)

  • I wish my cadet core sargents were like that...

  • @silkster007 was this clip just to sell some boot polish?

  • @silkster007 wtf

  • can't understand it but it looks like funny.....

  • LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THE HAND OF GOD BEFORE!

  • Exactly what I wish what my sergeant major would have done!

  • that must be the grenadier guards or?

  • @MultiRonnie1234 But that flaming grenade emblem on his cap is exactly the same one as the French soldiers and the Italian Carabinieri have...

Before that I always thought the emblem should represent ball-lightning... :)

  • @MultiRonnie1234 yes it is mate

  • @MultiRonnie1234 yeh the lapel is theirs

  • @MultiRonnie1234 yep :)

  • @MultiRonnie1234 yeah their cap badges...

  • Genius!!!
