  • amazing version man you got great rhythm

  • @maarr

Thanks very much....very nice of you.

  • By far the best cover I've ever heard of this. My baby girl is bopping along to it - guess she thinks so too!

  • @fairybaby123

I was thankful enough to read your very nice comment, Fairybaby,...but to hear that your little'un likes it as well, has simply made my day!...Thanks very much for letting me know that.

  • A pleasure to find this...well done.

  • Well I guess that's what I meant by spirit. Thanks for the reply.

  • I keep coming back to your version of Shake It and Break It. You have not only captured the song (easy) but its spirit (out of reach for most of us). Thanks

A question however (and thanks for the technical info - it is indeed played in F and not in C with capo to the fifth as I worked it out), on the second beat does your thumb play the low base note rather than the second higher bass note to give that 2/4 feeling? I'm waiting for the new version too.

  • @kjmorris123

Thank you very much, KJ, that's a great compliment.

RE: The bass line: I think in general, it's the low note on the 2nd beat. But y'know, I'm not sure there's a rigid bass note structure in the way I play this song...I really just try to let my fingers (and thumb) follow my voice rather than the other way round. It's quite hard to explain, but it seems the moment I become conscious of what my fingers are doing, or try to play it in too regular a style, it sounds stilted somehow.

  • Great!

Please upload with quality guitar and top audio equipment. Please...

  • great job. really great. you should tape closer... so we can see your fingers... or do lessons. if not i'll kinda hate you.

    great job!! keep it up

  • @explosivejohnny

Thanks for that...You too Inadapto88, and Blueguitar72. I appreciate your comments.

Regarding a closer look at the fingering: I got a new guitar recently and was thinking of uploading a little demo of it...Maybe I should use this song for that?

Not sure it'll help much though, 'cause I don't really know what I'm doing when I play it. LOL!

  • increible! buen trabajo!

  • Wow! Best version I've ever heard since Charley Patton! Well done!

  • Brilliant, Charley would be proud!

  • @FSMnoodle

That's a very nice thing to say...Thank you very much.

  • Nice one!

  • Still lovin' it!

  • @papasilvertooth

    That's nice to know. Thanks.

  • Your voice is made for this type of song. Excellent!

  • WOW. I mean just WOW! Captured the feel perfectly...

  • Thanks very much man...You just made my day!

  • Great rendition!!! Good work. Can you do another version with a closer look at your left hand. You sound just like CP!

  • Great work! I would love to see a slowed down view of your right hand as you play. Again, excellent work.

  • Great version of my favourite Charley Patton song!

  • Thanks man...Having just checked out some of your excellent vids, that's praise indeed!

  • will you marry me?

  • LOL!

    Madam,...you've made me blush!

  • Wicked !

  • Just goes to show how much is the player and not the guitar. You are, are you not, a huge fan of Lean Redbone.

  • Ha!...I've been rumbled!

Yeah, Leon's THE man...A big influence!

Thanks for the kind words Garry.

  • Love this. Best cover of the tune that I've heard.

  • Well, what can I say?...Lewy, you just made my day, man!

  • Ah thank you so much for the chords. I'm starting to pick up the grove but I got a place to start. You do a great version btw!

  • If it's any help, I think I found the trickiest part of learning this, was trying to remember the songs structure as you actually play it.

Try and fix the order of verses and choruses in your head and then it kinda all falls into place.

Good luck with it, man, and thanks for the nice comment.

  • This is great! I'm trying to play it the way you do.. What is your strum pattern? Do you mind explaining a bit about it?

  • Why, thank you...I'm very flattered!

I wish I had the musical knowledge to be able to explain the pattern in technical terms!...All I can say is use the thumb to alternate the bass, and the index and middle finger for the strum.

To add a bit of variation, on/off your first finger occasionally when playing the 'C7', and on/off the 6th on the 'F'. This is best heard during the intro. Sorry I can't explain it any better, but thanks again for your interest.

  • SOund as 4 the chords bro, and sick playinas well u know any Willie Brown tommy J?

  • Cheers man,...I appreciate your time.

Although I know Willie Brown's stuff, I don't play any.

I like to have a go at Tommy Johnson's 'Canned Heat Blues' or 'Cool Drink of Water' now 'n again though, but only when no one's around...Every song he did was a masterpiece!

  • no comment... amazing!!!

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for that...Glad you like it.

  • I love this song! What key are you playing in and what are the chords? It looks pretty simple. I'm a huge Charlie Patton fan, but I can rarely understand what the hell he's saying! Do you know Spoonful? Great stuff!

  • Got it! Easy tune! Great singing!

  • Thanks for the compliment!

You're right, there's nothing difficult about the chords: F & C7, with a sort of Bb6 thrown in. In the vid, I've got it capoed at the 2nd fret, but I usually play it capoed at the 1st.

Yeah, I love all Charley's stuff too. He had such amazing subtlety. The more you listen, the more you hear.

    Thanks again for your time.

  • 'kin A!
