there was a show on nat geo about multi tasking ,if it was possible by a human. and they showed a business man the whole time when, the ultimate multi tasker is a drummer with independance in his limbs , good job dude!!!!
@erkutacar Thank you, but no relation. I spell my name with an "H", BecHer. Jason was/is a great musician/composer. What a tragic story, though. Our prayers are with him, as I'm sure yours are too.
Hi Dave, have you ever checked out Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez. He does a lot of mind blowing cowbell stuff. I'm saw him perform and went out and bought a cowbell kick pedal bracket right after, but I haven't practiced it enough to be any good at it. This video has inspired me to crack it out again and give it another shot...so thanks again!
@Davesgrooves Thank you back! I love El Negro. He's great. I had been dying to do something with more of my feet, (other than usual machine-gun double bass), and originally planned to do a 3/2 clave type thing along the lines of Hernandez. But when I checked YouTube, there were a ton of videos up already doing that. I like to do videos that are different than what's been done, (or covers that very few or none have done). So I started messing around with multiple pedals and came up with this.
the one thing thats stood out about your drum work on the side of something to consider for improvement is stick height. I think youd gain a lot out of the drum sounds and your overall ability which already rocks big time! Again NICE work, my friend!
Thanks Keir! Stick height criticism noted and absorbed. In partial defense though, it's tougher to get great stick height and still play fast SINGLES. Try it. The higher you get, the slower you get. Doubles are much easier for height because you have two stokes buying you that additional time. Plus it becomes especially harder with singles when using Quantum 3000's, (think 3-S), as I do in most of my videos. Thanks for watching, and I will make a greater effort at stick height!
No, my attempts at it are pathetic. I just meant my failed attempts in general, during practice time. I've gotten the unconscious foot pattern down, but playing stuff over it is what gets to me.
Really great! I love all that back and forth with your right foot. Very nice. Plus I love that little thing you did at the very ending. I can never quite figure out how to do that. When ever I hear that at the end of a song I always think it sounds so cool.
Thanks! Good ear! Actually, Hernandez and Akira Jimbo were my original influences to do this, (even though I ended up with something quite different from their 3/2 clave stuff.)
Thanks again. No, I'm not sponsored as I don't play out anywhere yet. Once I retire, I plan to start a musical career. Then hopefully someone will take notice and sponsor me.
I'm suprised no one has sponsored you yet! As soon as you DO retire, I wouldn't be suprised if you sent a few videos to Zildjian, Vic Farth, Evans, Pearl, Sabian, Pastie, etc. and got immidiatly! If this DOES happen for any of these...... remember me bro! I can always use a few more cymbals ;)
Thanks, guys! Yeah, I originally had 2 bass drums but had to remove the left one to make room for the extra woodblock pedal. So I hooked up a double bass pedal. I wanted to get 3 pedals on each side, but there wasn't enough room on the left for more than 2 because of the floor toms. So I ended up with 2 on the left and 4 on the right.
Talk about a wild drum solo! - That was just so cool. Thinking out of the box as usual... great stuff here - many patterns to learn from in this two minute lesson.. Rock on!
Dave, I've never seen anyone play cowbells and temple blocks with foot pedals before--I've only heard recordings of it being done. I love this drum solo!!!
Dave, i don't know what to say. you're a mad genious! i love your cymbal work! your feet! i can't think like that. i truly loved this solo, i had to watch it twice. i will watch again. (beautiful pedal too)
