A useless video from a useless union. All they're good at is rewarding mediocrity, protecting their own hides and ensuring that they still have jobs. They're in bed with management, spreading their legs wider and wider and it's the employees who are getting screwed. I hope to God I never get a job represented by such a worthless sack-of-crap union as the CWA ever again.
All i can say is my bf works in a Call Centre, he's 20 , nobody makes you work there, granted the conditions may be bad, but what does anyone expcet when working for call centres and such like? the job is answering phones for customers, if you work in a factory you cant just leave the conveyor belt and go to the toilet. Ive had some bad jobs, whilst in university, but i just think no job is perfect, and nobody forces you to work there.
Getting the word out to potential workers to represent such as through this video, or as you charge "waste my money," happens to part of "union organizing." This is the only way that unions have the ability to be able to continue to represent members. Without growing and growing, a union will soon lose its ability to provide adequate representation. Get involved in your union. You might learn a thing.
I worked for a place that we were allowed a phone, put on a team, given email, but was told not to use or talk to anyone. Overtime was mandatory. Monitoring bathroom time and work time was expected. They had an open door policy, but never accepted suggestions. This video shows that same lack of respect. Notice the click box that says "No thinking"? When I was a union member, you were never treated this poorly. You could suggest things, be more productive, and have a say. Thank you.
VG, more power to CWA in tackling this. I've luckily never worked anywhere as bad as some of you, tho I have heard some pretty demeaning stories around loo break monitoring in the UK call centre industry too.
I think the dog gets the point across well - more of a sympathetic everyman than any human figure would be. Those who don't like it presumably won't like these either, heh heh
Humor is good to get a point across. However, I think this particular video is really in poor taste. Bathroom humor won't do a good job for anybody. Workers--and dogs--have dignity. Hey, I don't feel I need to be vulgar to voice my labor protests!
Well, how about showing a person squirming because they have to go to the bathroom instead of a dog? It's like saying workers = dogs IMHO. I know they are treated like dogs, but it is also insulting to appeal to them depicted that way.
My job is now in India being done for much less than Union scale and that poor individual is probably treated worse than we were. A dog is treated better!
Uh, yeah. We've resorted to a dog peeing on the floor to get our point across. Kinda of like dirty jokes, the lowest form of humor takes the least amount of brain power to come up with. We have a good case but have loss any chance of being taken seriously.
Apparently, some viewers have thought that the creator's use of a dog peeing to get the video's point across is poor taste or a sign of the "least amount of brain power." Get a life people! Peeing is the very point. Everyday, workers at call centers in the U.S. and overseas are being forced to sit and squirm rather than getting a restroom breaks when they need them. For heaven's sake that is the obscenity...not an animation of a dog peeing, an act people see every day. Get real
It sure makes a good point. Dogs receive much better treatment than the way this company treats its employees. Employees need to be treated decently, not worse than dogs.
This makes a good point because this company treats empolyees worse than dogs. Dogs receive much better treatment and don't ask permission to use the bathroom!
A Manager in the Call Center I work in told her Reps they would have to start "raising hands" to go to restroom - abruptly turned in resignation and left within a few minutes after about a week of this "policy".
I don't think the peeing dog will appeal to too many women on the job. Please work with the creative possiblities here and come up with something funnier.
I am a CWA member and have experienced this first hand. I actually watched a new hire puke in her waste basket, after being told she could not leave due to high volume of call coming in. INHUMANE!
I believe it! I was called on my day off and told to come pick up my wife who was puking into the waste basket. Having been a former APWU steward I started discussing grievance with the manager. It was finally resolved with my picking up an OTC medication from a nearby store. Since we were satisfied with that, I forgot to ask for call in pay for myself.
Great video. I'd like every manager to see what it feels like being "chained" to your desk, being monitored constantly, being denied reasonable breaks, etc., etc.

nice to know my union has time to make this video and waste my money when good jobs are already being cut

Would it be better if the dog were crouching instead of raising one leg?

I knew someone who had a call center job, they said it was hell and I guess it still is. One up for CWA!

Good thing for that company that the illegal aliens cleaning the place don't get any breaks either.

I can't believe that in this day and age, some people have to ask permission to go pee. That's just appalling!
