Sterling silver WILL ball properly, but you'll need to use a flux, otherwise you risk getting pitted and wrinkly balls, and noone likes those. ;)

It would be even better to hold your piece of wire vertically! Just let the silver ball 'crawl' up and it will allways be perfectly round. Give it a try!
