A world-class artist with a brilliant mind and beautiful soul. Since Youtube is all I've got I'll take it...but sure would love to hear him perform this live and uninterrupted!!
Simply superb. Played with a lot of feeling. I wish that he would come to San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall to perform. Would love to hear him live.
Simply superb. No question about it. I wish that he would come to San Francisco and perform at Davies Symphony Hall. He truly deserves more worldwide recognition.
i completely agree, i think yo yo ma is overrated. i saw jian wang playing the bach cello suites in 2005, elgar concerto last year, and chopin, shostakovich and schubert sonatas earlier this year. he's also an inspiring teacher, ive had 2 masterclasses with him.
my first time listening to jian wang. wish i had heard sooner. this guy has so many amazing things in his playing. so talented and great depth in his p;aying. god. this is pretty ridiculous haha. i want to hear other recordings of him
The reality sometimes, may all the time, that it is not how good you are. It is how good your promoter is. I think he is comparable to Yo Yo Ma, Both are good but different. I liked Ma but after I heard Wang, I think I prefer Wang's playing. His emotion is deep and direct without pretending. Yo-Yo Ma is from different era. Wang is from mainland China (or Red China.
@RedWasabii This stuff is priceless. They'll be playing this cello concerto 400 years from now, and Lady Gaga won't even be in the most comprehensive history books.
I know it really can't be helpep for any interpretation of Elgar will automatically be compared with Du Pre's. But let's not compare! Say, his musical depth and technique is in fact greater than many other "well known" and "famous" cellists. I enjoy him every single concert. You guys gotta see him live. It's very different.

Was I the only one who thought it was neat as all get out that he turned to the cellos at ~4:30 when they got the melody with the soloist?

Seriously only 700 views? This just shows how twisted the world is. Compare the overrated Ma to this highly underrated cellist.

Yea I know what you mean. This is such a top world class performance and it deserves so much more recognition. Ma's Elgar really isn't my thing...

@RedWasabii care to explain why you think Ma is overrated?

@RedWasabii I totally agree with you. I bought every single CD there is for Jian Wang.

Could I like Wang's Fourth Movement more than Jackie's. It so wonderful... If it is not better than Jackie's it is close.
