thanks for the treat! The modern day music industry has KILLED good talent and cranked out junk food no talent naked women and dopey male artists for the public today. They should be boycotted.
@overner2001 yes a white English bloke called Rod Temperton, he was in Heatwave and wrote many of their hits also worked with Quincy Jones and wrote lots of Michael Jacksons hits
Last week I asked a DJ just before closing time if he had this tune in his tiny record collection and he said "I'm trying to get people out of here, not set things off!". Then he did, and it got smooth and sexy
@kemiseba2011 .Yes.You are so right.I thought good music was starting to die slowly in the late 90's.Now it is definitely dead. But thank God for the 70's,80's and early 90's.
I'm from this generation, 17 yrs. old, Mexican, and I absolutely LOOOOVVVVEE Black Music. Michael Jackson, the KING of MUSIC, is my idol! BTW George Benson is awesome too.
It is the memories of good time i had in seattle while i was attending college that comes back when i listen to this and other songs from that period or era(from 79 to 85).
Excellent - the version with the background singing..."we can reach the stars if we try(?)" is very rare. I have a recording from the radio with this version but not the long version like you have here, it repeated that four times and faded. Thanks so much for posting, rare and excellent!
OMG....This is one of the wonders of the world George Benson at his finest. He just didnt give you the night he gave you a lifetime of love...CAN YOU FEEL IT???DETROIT STAND UP!!!!!ALRITE TONIGHT!!!
Oh man...This reminds me of when I was working at Time Inc. in New York City and would get to meet all the movie stars and sports stars coming in do do interviews for People, Money, Life Magazine, Sports Illustrated and Time Magazine. Shout-out to Ghita Walker, Juanita Gibson-Salas, Gregory R. Graves, Lawton Latimer, Silvia Hunter, Big Dave, Big Dudley and the party crew from back then. Time was famous for their private movie party screenings, where you got to meet the stars of the movies.
I have a lot of favorites from 1980, but this song really makes me want to have a good time and still to this day it reminds of all the fun and good times I have with friends! It is indeed a great song!
i remember sitting in a jazz club in Durham North Carolina listening to his perfect voice and regina belle was there too...what a treat! Nobody writes misic like them anymore :(
......I love to creep around on youtube late at night...feeling good from a few whiskey and cokes....and stumble upon gems like this. It's so satisfying ;)
Great song, great groove, just the song for a night out on the town with someone you love, this IS the perfect song!! you can definetly give me the night!!! Love this song!! A true classic!!
I generally stay away from comments about the 'good old days' and how music died after 1993 but the thing I find increasingly is that the best stuff is from these old school guys who worked their craft, performed their hearts out, respected the fans and had musical integrity. Roll on 'good old days'

"When ever time is calling"! I'm just dancing right now! Brings back memories on my mom and aunt playing this song while we are in the park grilling and we are running around playing hide and seek..just having fun! This is REAL MUSIC and not the crap you are currently hearing on the radio...this type of music made you feel good! The crap today makes you wanna slap somebody!
Thank God for Quincy Jones...... this period of time in music owes so much to him! I used to spin (back in the day) and I miss the quality of the music from then. The music talked of love and fun and good will.......not like the crap being produced today where you need to break a cap off of this and every other word needs to be bleeped.
I remember this song. I remember it playing on the radio in the car on our way to daycare. We had just moved to the suburbs (Aldine/Greenspoint) from the inner city of Houston. It was all new back then. My mom and dad were still married. Happy days. My dad has since passed away this past year and it breaks my heart because I miss him and those simple days so much.
This is just a perfect song. It's got a great groove, great feel and there's not one note out of place or unnecessary. I remember being in the back seat of the family's Cordoba and my parents listening to this on the radio while I just absorbed the tune. I can literally still see and hear that memory and it makes me smile!
funny you should mention a Cordoba....my best friend's mom had one and we were going somewhere in that Cordoba one time and we were listening to this song....
@PimpDragon108 Man those were the days this song just takes you back in time, riding around in pops Continential Mark V with the white Pierre Cardin leather interior and a big ole Craig 8 track, makes me laugh if only life were so simple today.....Bless
