Gyros also made by chichen or veal! It more has to do with the way of making it rather than the meat we use! We Greeks say it Gyros because it is constandly on spining! "Gyros" in Greek literaly means "around" or "surounding" for example "kano to gyro"("going around")! It is used for everthing that incloudes spining or circuit route!

Gyros is the Greek word for Rotating, as is Doner in Turkish. Because of a massive Greek community in the US and its backwoods views on Turks these guys have decided to take claim of a Turkish Dish produced by the Iskender Family in Bursa in the 1700's, because they use Pork in some does not give them the right to change its name.
@mcy9123 - I want one for home also! it would be spinning full of lamb like a lawn sprinkler with lamb juice hitting everywheres and I give pita bread to clean the mess up! :)

I pronounce Gyro and Euro, similar in sound and afflection.Have also heard it as "yuro" with the g sound taking a soft stance.Delicious either ways!
