Roller derby started out as a legit sport, and I believe it was co-ed at the time. sometime during the 60s or 70's, it turned into a  scripted thing similar to WWE wrestling with soap opera story lines and such. in the past several years it's reverted back to legitimate but only women.

@blackandblue10 Actually, from my studies of the sport it was a mans sport first. Then the ladies took it over. I don't believe they ever played together. My team is months away from being in the League.  We are just apprentice right now, but OMG....what a rush! An amazing sport
