It's oil that the meat is cooked in not broth.

The meat (any type) gets cooked quickly and thoroughly and tastes far better than it sounds.

As for the noodles... that's not a Canadian thing. We do not eat oil and noodles at the end. :)

I know American's don't get to learn anything in school about Canada so I will share something with you.. Most places in Canada are named after other places in the world. Banff was probably named after Banffshire which is in Scotland. There's a whole world outside of the US..lol check it out sometime!
