@elvaelvirababe I've tried to find you an answer, but my research would tend to make me believe that she wore it because it was indeed her trademark....

But if memory serves me right, my Mother used to tell me when I was young that she wore that black dress all the time because people close to her kept dying one after another. If you read her biography on wikipedia, it seems to actually have been the case!

But for lack of a definite answer, it will remain a mystery, I'm afraid! §:c)
