Great how-tos on your web site. Extremely well done and very accessible for a layman. Do you have any advice on bias tuning for the r8? I switched tape formulas and think it may need to be calibrated. What type of tape do you use? Thanks again for the info on belt replacement.
Sorry, I have no "advice" on biasing R8, as I never had to tweak mine.
I used only Quantegy 457 with R8, have not even tried any other tape yet, maybe someday when I feel like experimenting.
I'd imagine you can get good result with some other tapes, maybe 407 or scotch 207, or maybe even try quantegy/ampex 632 or maxell UD35-90 ??, just try to avoid using thiker tape like 406, 456, GP9, and such on R8.

R8 s were (well still are here and ther :) ) great recorders, it's just too bad that they were not buit like older TEAC machines :)
