1985 GT manual transmission car was rated at 210 hp and the auto trans car was rated at 185. In 1986, horsepower dropped to 200 while the torque increased slightly. In 1987(new design) horsepower went up again to 225.

The 85 GT was the first roller rocker motor and the last carburetor. It had 225 bhp. The LX model with the 302cid was meshed with a 3 speed automatic and the venturi carb. It put out much less. In 86 fuel injection was introduced and the bhp down to 200. Most folks opted to rip out the intakes (after warranty expiry) and put in their own Holly 4bbl carb.

With proper headders and free flowing exhaust, 225 horses was easy. In 87 the breathing was improved and the base GT put out 225 bhp.
