I dont know why 1hotguitar have thumbs down...I dont know you guys but I never felt that this great man was dead...If you go to the bar, turn on the radio, watch music on tv, listen music in your room...there is he and his wonderful music with that magnificent band...THE CLASH until the end of the days.
It is a cover of Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song' and this version can be found on the Mescaleros' album 'Streetcore'. A better version, which is a duet with Johnny Cash, is also available on the Cash album 'Unearthed'.
Joe strummer R.I.P You were the insperation that kept me going when my wife passed away .Your music will live on for ever .. Goodnight god bless Angie xxxxxx.
Great job on the video..all respect I was just listening to silver and gold on streetcore with my three yr old daughter, and she says daddy why are you upset. how do you explain? it's going on six years since the day I got in the car to go to work, and I heard the news. Very influential part of my life...and many others.
The song is called 'Redemption Song', and is on the album 'Streetcore' by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros. However, there is a much better version, where Joe does a duet with Johnny Cash. It is on the Johnny Cash 5-disc compilation 'Unearthed', and is track number 1 (I think) on disc 5 (I think).
yeah sure. he congenital heart defect, where an artery passed through his heart, rather than around his heart, which also means he could have died at any point in his 50 year life
Even though I didn't know him personally, he made a huge difference in my life and I miss him every day. RIP Joe, the world is worse place for losing you, but still a far better one for having had you. Wherever you are, stay free.
I wish to god I could have seen the Clash play, but I wasn't born until they were on the verge of splitting. I stupidly turned my nose up at the idea of seeing him with the Mescaleros, insisted it wouldn't be the same. I'd love nothing better than to see him sing the phone book now. What I wouldn't give to have met the great man, and seen him play before his death. I'll regret that for the rest of my life.
Thinking of him made me feel that maybe there was some hope left for mankind after all, that maybe things would be ok. I physically felt the world become a darker place the day he died. He's not just some guy in some band, he touched people's lives in a way so few can. He was truly special.
It's not just about music, the man was an absolute hero. He was and is an inspiration to the rest of us in his bravery, loyalty, honesty and the fact he couldn't be bought. In a world of sell-outs and bullshit, he was one thing you could always rely on, as well as an icon of good in a world full of shit.
Lovely video, very touching. The sadness of Joe's death never eases, the tragedy of losing him is never diminished. But since it turns out the heart defect that robbed us all of him could have struck him down any time, it seems the world was lucky beyond words to have him as long as it did. There will never be another like him, there's only one Joe Strummer.
i still can't believe hes dead. A fitting and beautiful tribute to a man who will live in our hearts forever. Light a candle for Joe Strummer, Rest In Peace the best man to walk the earth
i never knew the clash, did i have to ? i seen joe play at the barrowland in glasgow with a band called,"the latino rockabilly war," Mick doing "big audio dynamite," in the town and country club, london. paul simomon, supporting sigue sigue sputnik at glasgow university with a band called havana 3 a.m,
Seriously why did he have to die? There are so many pieces of shit walking the earth as we speak, and Joe is in the ground. With his messages of tolerance and peace the world needs a man like Joe Strummer.
It's weird, the day before he passed, they showed a special on him on VH1. Really caught me off guard when he died. A true Rock legend. RIP Joe Strummer.

Yeah, it's Bob Marley. But this version is by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros. Johnny Cash duet is by far the best version of this song tough.

And I'll never forget the smile on my face

And if you're in the crowd tonight
Have a drink on me,
Go easy... Step lightly... Stay free...
