1) Then you should stay off the Internet because there's going to be lots of things on the Internet that would apparently enrage you that is meant for entertainment.
2) Or you could just not click on it. It's titled "Whores of Dublin - Celtic Woman Parody". That pretty much spells out not only what the song will be, but that it is a parody? So why click on it in the first place? It's like being allergic to seafood, going into a seafood restaurant, ordering the lobster, and then getting mad at the staff that you got sick. It's no one else's fault you're angry but your own.

We, would have been the servants, "peasants," serfs, farmers.
This is hilarious! I've been watching Celtic Woman on PBS tonight and just came across this. I'm sending it to a friend of mine who will appreciate the humor as well as the voice ;)
You have to have a bit of dark Irish humor to appreciate it!
Oh my hahahah this is priceless... Poor Whores of Dublin XD and you have a great voice by the way! and Miguel, you're an asshole you should criticize something you don't understand, listen to folk music first!
This is absolutely hilarious! I am a trad music fan and find this parody to be spot-on. Your lyrics are hysterical - "So If you like it here we will do it in the Marsh." Love your voice, and your headband. :)
Yes, many trad songs can have a catchy tune and be fun to sing along with, if you just sort of ignore the subject matter. Check out Old Blind Dogs' "The Pills of White Mercury" here on YouTube - the lyrics are posted with the video - it has a similar theme.
You mentioned the story about the girl who gets killed by her sister and turned into a fiddle. One of the members of Celtic Woman (Meav) actually has a song about that on one cd.
See most of you guys get the joke! You have to actually know folk music to understand it. And then there are those who think I am personally attacking the performers, which I am NOT! Sheesh!
you actually have a nice singing voice. sing about beautiful things. calling oneself a whore and enjoying it is not beautiful. I hope Celtic Woman will never sing anything like this.
What can I say? I have a dark sense of humor. An as I keep pointing out, authentic folk songs are pretty vicious many of them are about murder, betrayal and death. My favorite morbid one involves a woman drowning her sister, then then making a fiddle from her bones, and finally when the fiddle is played it cries out for revenge and the the woman and her lover are killed! No kidding.
Where can I find this "dark folk songs" ? Can you give us same names of bands, songs etc., please. The most of us (who are not from ireland) don't know this music.
@JosefRaddy I learned about them in college, you could probably find some in a google search. You have to find AUTHENTIC folk songs. I had books full of them, and they are not satire, but the real deal. There is a real one about how the lovers not only kill another woman, but turn her hip bones into a lute and then when they play it her ghost comes back and haunts them. Lots of revenge and death!
I am glad, I never meant to insult the performers, I would just love for them to sing something like this! Or there is an actual folk song about a murder and one of the lines is 'As he watched her float down the stream" that is after he murdered her of course. I don't remember the name of the song, but he was a rich noble and she was poor and he killed her, many of them have that theme.
well there is 'Oh the wind and rain/two sisters' but he doesn't kill her. one sister kills the other out of Jealousy, "She pushed her sister in the river to drown
And watched her as she floated down
She floated 'til she came to the miller's pond Crying, Father, oh father, there swims a swan" and then there is the cruel mother ... " A carvin' knife was in 'er 'and She ran it through the baiby's 'art" Portsmouth town "She grabbed him and she stabbed him she tore him in three" all v.Happy :-)
Was that about Celtic woman? I love Celtic woman they can't be whores their music is too spiritual for that , plus the youngest just finished high school!
I think you are entirely missing the satire. This is not a comment on any of the specific performers, not even close. You should look up some really old Irish and American folk songs, some are extremely dark and violent. The women in the show are very talented, and I don't think they are "whores". I just wish they would sing one of the old songs about murder and betrayal, that would be hysterical.
Wow, that was ridiculously hilarious! You win . . . at life . . . seriously lol. I swear I will be sitting at work tomorrow and 'the whooooooooooooOOOOoooores of dublin' will pop into my head and I will break down laughing. Thanks for this, it's awesome :D
Don't fret about the nasty comments, that just means more people are watching, which is a good thing. I think I've watched it 5 times since last night, and I still crack up everytime.
I am still up if you can believe it, I have horrible insomnia and well it is sort of a holiday week. Thanks so much. I have gotten some nasty comments lately. I guess they don't have a sense of humor. I love Irish music, but the old traditional songs are fairly HARSH! I am working on another one, not sure when I will shoot it. And due to multiple requests the lyrics will be posted soon! Thanks!
ok, not 100% but this is what i've got so far... I shall wait for the sailor who is down by the sea And i hope that many of them might fancy me For i am so poor that i am nearly starved So if you like it here We shall do it in the mores Chorus Cried the whores of Dublin Cried the whores of Dublin My dear lads, im a whore I will polish your knob I will scuttle your clackers You can come right in front or in the backers I will cobble your lad
Ahahahaha!! Oh my gawd, I love this. Every time I hear "Cry the Whores of Dublin" I double over laughing. My friends aren't really listening to the lyrics (they never pay any attention), and have no idea why I'm laughing to hard. Gawd, if only they would pay attention to these lyrics.
Seriously a wonderful job! I look forward should you ever do a sequel.
I am not Irish, German decent actually and 5th generation so I am really AMERICAN, not Irish or German. 1/8 Irish in blood, but I don't really count it. So my parents could care less. But I will let them know that I should be ashamed, I guess for daring to make a parody. The vast majority of Celtic women fans have loved this, I have even gotten requests for lyrics and a follow up. See unedited comments below! To each his own I guess!
I am absolutely loving how people who are really into this music are getting the joke! I will post the lyrics soon. I am currently swamped making political videos but I do have a sequel to this song in the works. The synthetic sounds are just my voice humming through compressors for voice on garage band. So it is an actual real sound made to sound fake!
Thanks! I'll try and get it round on the folk circuit, most folkies tend to love parodies - Look how well the kipper family did! Can't wait to hear the sequel, with even more real sounds made fake!
My first negative comment in over 4,500 views and six months of being on youtube. I think it is a record at least for me. Apparently according your profile you don't speak English as a first language. All of the jokes in this are IRISH (English) slang terms, so you wouldn't get any of the references. Not one. So I guess I will go polish someone's knob, or scuttle their clackers, or have a bit of their barse, and they can nibble me gibblets.
Ok! Hahaha... Good investigation... English is not my first language, kkkk.
I didn't wanto to do a negative comment, i just sad what I feel when I see your video... hahahaha... it is funny, but I feel some chills, hehehehe... good job!
Funny that you say that, everyone wants a sequel. I am currently thinking of doing a song bitching about how Celtic Woman does songs like Somewhere over the Rainbow. Like she is mad that they aren't doing traditional Irish songs. We'll see. Thanks! So far I haven't gotten any negative comments which is a little shocking!
Thanks I found all of the terms on Irish Slang websites. My personal favorite is giblets. A word that means bits of turkey to us in the states, but a WHOLE other meaning in the Emerald Isle.
Thanks, I like Celtic music too, I just find the Celtic Woman thing to be so over the top, that I had to make fun of it. And hey if you love Celtic Woman, it's cool. I just know that a lot of old Irish folk songs are quite dark, and well, Celtic Woman doesn't really do that kind of material.
My friend and I were walking through the cloisters yesterday and WALKED RIGHT BY YOU while u were filming this! I didn't even recognize you! Holy shite.
That is hysterical! People kept doing that, we even had a car stop, but like hell I had to ignore it. Our battery was running out, it was cold, we just had to get it done. We only shot about 12 minutes of video, but Lynn did such a good job. Lynn and I kept cracking up. I kept thinking of the real goth types who probably make serious videos up there. The place is amazing I can't believe it is in New York.
Nice, now do a parody of the 18th, 19th and twentieth century Irish rebellions against England.

where are the lyrics? I want to learn it! This is so funny, and true especially with the echo and the fog and the synthetic back up.

I am really afraid!
I don't think it is funny! I'm afraid, and I'm serious!

OMG thats sooo funny! but i love Celtic music!

Hilarious! So close to the mark! Just watch, THE WHORES OF DUBLIN is going to be on the next Celtic Women CD.
