  • Bad ass steri pen thing!

  • @TheHossUSMC thats an old video lol

  • Can you use regular non-rechargable batteries in it too? Or does it have to be the rechargable ones? Also, how long does the solar unit take to recharge the battery?

    Thanks much

  • nice instructive video, without any loud distracting music.

  • I don't use Nalgene bottles, I always use a Klean Kanteen. I have both 27 and 40 oz bottles but everything I read only talks about 16 and 32 oz bottles. It also sounds like theres a timer thats calibrated for the 16 and 32 oz bottles. I know you need a wide mouth bottle so the sensors are in the water but will it work with a stainless steel bottle in an odd size?

  • @DrunknShooter the 32oz mode would cover the 27oz kleen, but you may have to repeat to process for the 40oz to be safe. check the FAQ on there website

  • Use the prefilter in silty water then take it off of the bottle and then use the steripen.

  • @hunt458 really?

  • @hunt458 you're suppose to turn the bottle upside down thats why they came up with the most recent one that has a green rubberized insert so the water thats on the bottom can can have accest to the the UV light.

  • Very helpful introduction to UV purification. Thanks for a clear and understandable presentation.

  • Thanks for the very helpful video, which I found by accident. What would you recommend for water treatment while traveling in India? There is plenty of clear water, but heavy metals might be an issue, so I would probably prefilter. I just don't know what's best. Thanks.

  • @tulasipriya definityly the sawyer 4 way bottle

  • Great overview.

One minor thing: the Aqua Mira drops are awesome,

but, if I recall, the "5 minutes" is just the mixing time

in the cap...you're supposed to wait an ADDITIONAL

15 minutes (after adding the mixture of A + B to your water)

or so before consuming...even longer if the

water's very cold. This is about the only drawback to

the system: On a hot summer day, if you run across a

icy cold waterfall, that water will warm considerably over

    20+ minutes.

  • hey beast, how many gallons will the steripen purify, how often are you changing batteries, how much water at one time will it clean and is this the best water cleaning system there is...

  • @ayres390 steripen website, it all depends on which model you get

  • Hello, thank you for the videos. Unfortunately, I have become fixated on how often you say "um" and "uh", versus the actual content. Do you have a solution for me on how to get rid of this fixation?

  • it was my first vid

  • Hey, Do you think that:

Filtering into a Nalgene Oasis Canteen with a Katadyn Hiker Pro and then Sterilizing with a SteriPen and then transferring that to either a Hydration Bladder for direct water, or a Platypus Water Container:

is a good idea for a Water Treatment System. It will produce pure, clean water.

I'd get the SteriPen Classic to keep the batteries consistent as I intent to get a Fenix LD20 also.

    Thanks

  • I would work great, however it may be overkill, The hiker pro would do bacteria and protazoa, just not virus. But chances of viruses are typically very low in the US. So just use the hiker pro straight to your bladder, unless you suspect viruses you could use the steripen, if the water is clear you could just use the steripen. oh Choices :)

  • I live in Ireland and I'm not sure about the rarity (or there lack of) of viruses.

  • Thanks for your input and the great info. I ordered the steripen. Felt I would get more use out of it. Be a nice break from boiling my water. I must admit though, I am still a bit nervous about trying it the first time. LOL

  • Great info! I am looking to buy either a Katadyne Hiker Pro or a Steripen Classic. Which would you recommend? I am leaning towards the Steripen for ease of use. Always great info!

  • I would have to say the steripen, check out my video"water talk" totally happy with it.

  • Thanks))

  • Dude, very good!

  • In a muddy , mirky situation, would a coffee filter work for filtering water?

  • sure . although maybe a bit slow, I think a bandana, or even a t-shirt would do the job enought to use the steripen, There are products like chlorafloc that will bind particulates together, that make it easier to filter water.

  • Very good.

  • Thanks for taking the time. Good job, especially for your first video. Heading to Gualemata in April, worried about h20. Your video was very helpful.

  • The tube is not glass. Glass doesn't pass UV, it's quartz. Also, you say 6 hours for a solar charge, but the company says 2-5 days.

  • true, I found out later about the quartz, but I was able to get usable power after a day hike around 6 hours long, maybe its 2-5 days for full charge. Just speaking from experience.

  • Excellent review! Very clear and understandable. One question; Is the UV bulb on the SteriPEN replaceable?

  • the bulb is good for 10,000 uses, which is 4 times a day for 7 years, but send it back and they'll replace it for 20 bucks.

  • did you remember leap years in that?

    lol

  • Nice review, great vid..You have an awesome narration voice.

  • very good review and demo!
