Hello, My Dad saw you play at Disneyland in 2001 and taped you playing the 'William tell overture' and ever since my father has always wanted me to learn to play it, but ive never attempted it. But now that ive being playing for a few years I want to learn to play it for his birthday (not this years, and only when im good enough) and was wondering if you would ever do a tutorial or a slow up close taping of it, I would appreciate it very much, thanks.
I just can't listen to this music without thinking it's just lowering my guard so Don Vito's can have me whacked behind my back while I'm least expecting it, right there in the Italian restaurant.
Got this for Tbledit thought I knew the mandolin. coulda swore there was 3 mandolins cause I coud hear em. When I saw this video I just couldn' t believe my eyes and ears. Aint gonna bust mine over a fence post tho. Just gonna sit back and enjoy Evan. PS his William Tell also magnificent!!!
No, it's all done "real time" on one mandolin. The technique is called "Solo Mandolin in Duo-Style," employing a tremolo melody and harp-style accompaniment at the same time. The secret, so to speak, is using one out of every four (or one out of every six) pick-strokes to play an accompaniment note instead of the tremolo note. The greatest phrasing difficulty in this technique is to make the tremolo sound smooth and uninterrupted despite the omitted pick strokes.
Absolutely amazing! Mr. Mrshall has a wonderful instruction book available through Elderly Instruments in Lansing MI. Check out thier site. I wonder if Evan J. Marshall would ever film Recuerdos de la Alhambra for Youtube.
what is you tuning is it just standard

I love your work :D
I have been trying but haven't gotten tremolo down yet :(
I see how you play your mandolin with your forearm in line with the strings. I'm going to try that.
