  • If anyone recalls Via Alegre, there was some film about making chairs and the music in this film was used for it.

  • whats this song called

    is there longer version

    who it by

  • I never even noticed races when I watched this. To me it was two kids trying to get that darn kite in the air.

  • @dementedfurbie Me too. To young to have thought such a thing but certainly not a bad point.

I don't think SS was ahead of its time because throughout most of the 60's many were trying to do that but still an interesting thought.

  • where is the boy on the bike? I want him to come to the zoo with me. Jake from tow and a half men where is he? I want him to come too.

  • WOW! I've just been transported back in time. I haven't seen this in about 35 years.

  • It is really wonderful that this clip has given a positive message and great memories to so many people. The day we filmed this clip will always be a very special day in my life. I never saw the little boy and older man again. The clip was filmed and directed by just one man, on a very beautiful day in Malibu. I do not know the name of the music but it was perfect for the clip.

  • I haven't seen this in 35 years or more, but the music was my primary inspiration for taking up guitar (recently!). This was and is the one piece I really wanted to play. Incredible now to discover how accurately I remembered it.

  • this tune and the images as well as the messages are some of the few things that i never forget. thanks..... am reminded of my childhood when i spent my afternoons watching "sesame street".

  • Now folks, tell me something. Why isnt this the sesame street being shown to our kids instead of that ADHD addled nonsense that they call sesame street now?

  • @Amithrius

Two reasons as I see it. One is the over-reliance on parental "focus teams" which neutered the revolutionary nature of the original SS vision. SS originally relied on child-experts (who knew that children are not naturally stupid or fragile) for help. Now the focus seems to be on keeping things from being too stimulating or complicated (which naturally makes them boring).

Second is SS Workshops excessive reliance on marketable characters (like, ugh, Elmo).

  • @4a8p9x How do you know it's parental focus groups? Especially since many of them probably grew up on SS and saw films like this?

  • you know its amzing how Seseme Street can use a film by just having music in the background with no dialoug, words or music, kids can learn the subtle messages without being talked down to. It is something that Mr. Rodgers and Captain Kangaroo can not do if they were still on. It is one of the things that makes the old school Seseme Street special and very unique.

  • I love this so much, I was a small child when I first saw this in the early 80s the boy of the bike reminds me so much of my neighbour Sean.....thanks for posting this

  • Reginald- just wanted to let you know that this is one of my earliest memories as a kid- watching this clip in the 70s. I have never forgotten it even though I hadn't seen it for at least 25 years. Thanks for the memory!

  • it used to make me so happy the boy on the bike was able to join in on the kite fun lol

  • This was always one of my favorites. I loved how Sesame Street always put different races together.

  • My name is Reginald and I'm the boy on the bike. We filmed this in 1971, when I was 11 years old, in Malibu, CA. The man and the little boy were fun to work with. This was my one and only acting job. I have not seen this film since the early 70's and found it here today on You Tube.

  • Hello Reginald! This clip is one of my favorites. Have you seen the man and little boy since the film? You all did a great job.

  • I have not seen the man and little boy, since this was filmed. I'm glad that you enjoyed the clip. I have been looking for this clip for many years and was very happy to find it here on youtube.

  • I'm glad Reginald. In one short clip that lasts no longer than two minutes, the three of you deliver a positive, important message to children that people can help each other and have a great time. You're all part of a mission in educational television that flourishes to this day. Thanks ever so much.

  • i must say, you had an awesome bike there- was it the murray or huffy one made to look like a krate? and i always wanted a kite like that after i saw this...i love to show my 2 year old these as well- much better than most programming nowadays....they should release a dvd or such of all these neat clips...who did the music? its stuck in my mind all these years...great clip....

  • @risktaker1960 Hello Reginald. Thank you for posting this message and letting us all know who you are. That clip gave me a lot of pleasure as a little boy and watching it after so many years gives me a wonderful nostalgic feeling. It made me happy then and still makes me happy now. It's just a very smart and emotional video. Can you tell us who the other little boy and the elderly man were? Do you remember that day? Looks like you had fun!

  • @risktaker1960

I find it very interesting to read your posts and learn about your background Reginald! Now before signing off, I would like to offer you one little piece of food for thought. Your one and only acting job took place the same year that "All in the Family" made its debut!

  • @risktaker1960 Can I ask how did they find you to do that sketch? Were you a young actor?

  • @risktaker1960 Can I ask too....do you know where this is shot? Is this someone's field or pasture?

  • @jfpinell ...My father had connections in the entertainment industry and arranged for me to be in this clip. I was not a child actor. The clip was shot in a large field overlooking some ocean front homes in Malibu California. I do not know who owned the field.

  • @risktaker1960 I'm a little late but thanks for letting us know.

I would of figured this was filmed somewhere in the NTC ares since that's were SS has been produced all these years.

  • Great memory! I would put this with the sand letter clips and 'Film is Magic' as great classic Sesame clips accompanied by instrumental guitar music.

  • i recorded music i wish i knew name of song or guitarist

  • I still can't find the name of this guitar player or the song does anyone out there know if this is Joe Raposo?

  • Wow. At this moment, I'm seeing it for the first time in almost thirty years. I can't believe I remember the beautiful music so well.

  • yeah,i remember the music too-i saw it around 1975 or so when i was five-really wanted a kite like that for years afterward....

  • I know that this sounds like a strange question but, from 0:23-0:27, what was the reason doing a close up on the boy who was on the bike? I'm sure the audience was able to see him coming on screen and standing in the back behind the man. If I were to take a guess why they did a close up on him, maybe it was because they wanted the audience to see his smiling face to show that he's a person who is going to be very helpful to the boy with the kite.

  • You have to make things really obvious for young kids. I know I didn't always grasp the subtleties in these films when I was small.

  • Thats funny you say that b/c i saw it totally differently as a kid: I thought they closed in on the boy b/c he was wishing he could fly the kite too, but he didn't know the little boy. I thought he was sad and felt left out. But he smiled b/c he was content to watch. Until he noticed the boy needed help.

  • This is such a sweet one. :) I hope this is still shown on Sesame Street, it would make a nice break from all the "ELMO!!!"

  • This is such a beautiful clip and it is one of my personal favorites. It always brings tears to my eyes.

  • Ah! Before I couldn't remember which segment had that wonderful guitar music in it, now it's all coming back to me!

  • Hey where's that other Sesame Street clip about a boy flying his kite? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • this clip looks like its from the early 1970's

  • for whatever reason, this always made me cry when i was little!

  • nah man, i feel ya. i use to sob too. maybe cos i was real happy for the black kid who could play with the white kid and his kite.... i'll never know lol

  • Great background music! I also heard it on Chicago's WGN old "Garfield Goose" early morning show for children. Frazier Thomas; the shows host, used this same song as background music for his railroad documentary.

  • So nice to hear the song again after all these years. Thanks for posting this!

  • Gotta love an African American kid coming to the rescue of a distressed Euro-American kid who needs help to fly his kite! Love it! 5 stars!

  • I think the other kid was Asian, his kite was a Chinese design, and the old man painting pictures, probably his granddad, was Asian as well. So it's more international than you think!

  • OK, fine it was international. It's a great vid, none the less, with a great message.

  • That's true. That kid was very helpful in helping the other kid trying to help him fly his kite. At first, I thought he was not very polite just to be looking at the kid and the man non stop but probably, if it wasn't for him, the other kid with the kite would have a lot of trouble trying to get his kite to fly.

  • The music is just a great as the video. I'm not sure but I think that song was also played on an old "Odd Couple" episode. When some old European musican came to visit Felix and Oscar. He played it so well on his guitar you could see his finger play well.

  • I remember this one from when I was little! I wanted a kite like that so badly!!!!

  • Better without dialouge!!

  • ya what is name this song who did it

  • ah the nostalgia this brings back, love the music and the message

  • i got the music on a cd i created using a mixer t o extend the music idk the song

  • This clip had many messages.

    1. Different backgrounds playing together (main point)

    2. Age difference

    3. Teamwork

    4. How to get the kite flying

    very educational!

  • I agree with you....absolutely! Very Educational!

  • I totally agree!

  • Also that kid on the bike seemed to be much older than the other one.

  • I remember this. Who did the music? Thanks for posting.

  • I don't know. I wish I did. If someone knows, let us know.

  • I was hoping this would come back one! Thanks Michael!

  • You're welcome! Check out my "Touch, Hold, Feel" post!

  • One of the boys looks kinda like a young Eddie Griffin ... (see 0:26)
