The minority party is always given a chance to provide televised rebuttal, in order to maintain a balanced presentation of the issues. This is only one of the problems with Obama's speech to America's schoolchildren, but it is easily the most damning.

It's a speech about staying in school and doing your best. What exactly is a Republican response going to disagree with? Are you saying Republicans don't believe in staying in school or doing your best, and therefore need an official rebuttal to clarify how they differ with the President's entirely nonpolitical address?

This was a thoughtful, reasonable response. I agree with what you said. It is reasonable to respect Pres. Obama as our President, even if I don't agree with him. This is the way my conservative republican friends feel as well.!
