  • I wonder why he uses strong forces from 0:27->0:30, while his father Morio Higaonna /watch?v=GyRyR3pd7FI at 0:29->0:34 doesn't use it ?

  • Is a nice kata but his footing isn't grounded throughout every move.

  • he is amazing

he taught one of my classes

  • Shisochin must be his favorite kata.

  • its called sisochin kata

  • ZombieKitty,

    If I may...

How can it be both four strikes to the collar bone and a takedown?

In fact, these moves could be either. Do you need to break a collarbone or take an opponent down?

When the kata becomes part of you, you won't need to ask questions like this.

The three battles of Sanchin are physical, mental and spiritual. Don't get hung up on any one of them, or you will miss the point.

  • SaySochin?

  • @AricDobres Shisochin

  • When he is doing the four strikes to the collar bone in zenkuchidachi stance, it appears that he lifts the hand rather far before the strike. In the bunkai, it's supposed to be part of a take-down, pushing the opponent backwards, so I've always utilized the move in a forward direction rather than coming from above. Is the move supposed to be performed that way?

I get to attend a class with Eric Higoanna in Fowlerville this week. Im very excited :]

  • @xxZombieKittyxx

ure so luky my sensee does the same kata and the bunkai its like hell u must feel it to learn

  • Eric hagaonna is datign my sensei

    Sensei Luara

  • @psp1c don't they live in Toronto? do you train there?

  • @jurgenbono no sensei Luara live in georgia and eric lives in or trains in California

  • notice he likes to tense up his shoulders? made him looks a bit rigid, not sure if this is a good idea. He has good speed though.

  • I know Eric, and yes, this is him. This performance was when he was a Shodan.

  • Excellent!

  • I can't see anything wrong with this at all! He does it slightly differently from me. So what? If he's Higaonna-sama's son, he's in good hands, it seems to me!

  • Is he relative to Sensei Morio Higaonna?

  • This guy is Sensei Higaonna's son Eric

  • it is not his right name he is just called eric because nearly nobody can pronaunce seiji right or can write it in the right way (i hope i did)

  • This is not Eric!

  • Yes it is, I just met him last night, and saw him do a kata today

  • So who taught him? I have pictures of him as a baby, so he's defintely improved ha ha.

  • Erick, I am really very happy to see you making Sisochin. My experience tell me that you are going on the right way.

Everyone would want to see your father in you, but you will give your own touch to your kata & it will be your kata.

The seed of your father is in you. Congratulations!!! The others, start with an self critic!. . . Mario Falcone from Mexico.

  • so he is not morio higaonna's son?

  • what he is doing, I learn this kata differently. He is really Higaonna'son?

  • he is doing goju kata Shisochin [kanji meaning 'four, faceup to, all directions']..

all elements of the kata are basically correct so if you 'learned it differently'

as in additions or omissions, look again..

  • look out of the box. it is superb. very yugen (mystic)

  • Sorry ... I meant IOGKF. None too good at typing lol

  • Of course it's IOGHF style Morio Higaonna kata ... it's his son, Seigi Eric Ivan Higaonna.

  • It's what i'm training ! Does IOGKF make kumite tournaments ? I don't know if in Goju Ryu are tournaments in kumite

  • Karatenomichi World Federation - it's organization sensei Yahara's from Shotokan. Eric San did kata at opening ceremony. Only kata.

  • Nice kata? I don't understand wy all those hips movements! It doesnt seems a IOGKF kata!

  • It's exactly IOGKF kata.

    It is tradition sensei Higaonna's.

  • Everyone performs kata according to his level, so a nidan, godan and gokyu performances of the same kata are different.

Shisoshin, among other things, teaches circular motions by rotating the body, which means, rotating the hips like a whip. So at first, that movement is very visible; on time, it will be less noticeable. So all that about correct or incorrect should distinguish between a wrong kata and a learners kata. In my opinion, Eric Higaonna has very good kata: breathing, kime, tan tien.

  • Doubting Higaonna Sensei´s Tradition? Excuse Me. Wrong comment.

  • @marcari982 the power comes from the hips and tanden, a point between the solar plexus and navel, every movement in goju ryu uses this, if it doesnt its not goju ryu.

  • Nice kata. Poor video quality.
