They probably asked her to sing because she's a young singer who has managed to make a name for herself without selling herself as a sex vixen. Virtually ANY young Julliard student or any voice major would've done a better job. So young people would've been introduced to classical singing and a new artist, would it be so bad? I've listened to this many times in the past couple years. Her voice is so beautiful here. I'm not the biggest fan of some of her music, itself, but that voice! Just search on Barbara Bonney Ave Maria, you'll find it. if you want other songs, Schubert wrote some 700 songs, many of them are very beautiful. Among my favorites are "Auf dem wasser zu singen", "Standchen", "Die Forelle", "Gretchen am Spinnrade". There are others as well.

Im doing choir singing myself [soprano], nd i always struggle with notes such as a nd g [the high ones] she takes the g nicely, nd smoothly [well, i think it's a G, I don't know which version she's doing, but to me it seems like it's the Bb version for soprano]

Anyone on here that has negative comments about this video is hating for the sake of hating. Here are some facts: 1.you looked for this video and choose to watch it, 2. odds are that you liked it, 3. you became jealous that someone has talent and you dont. Enjoy the music, or if not then move along to something that interests you. This is coming from someone that has zero interest in Clarkson but am simply amazed by attention seeking haters.

@nina052696 Maybe she did well for a pop singer, but the point is - why did they feel they had to invite a pop singer to sing Schubert when there are so many classical singers out there. Why didn't they invite, for example, Renee Fleming? To me it's a sad commentary on media today who doesn't understand classical music and ignores so many wonderful artists.

They probably asked her to sing because she's a young singer who has managed to make a name for herself without selling herself as a sex vixen. She's remained a role model for a lot of young people and speaks/writes about her faith frequently. I can't think of a better artist to ask for that audience.

Virtually ANY young Julliard student or any voice major would've done a better job. So young people would've been introduced to classical singing and a new artist, would it be so bad? Kelly may be a good artist for this audience but not singing a piece that requires a classical musician. She could've sung some pop song, maybe written one on religious subject.

If we are jealous of Kelly, how come we aren't jealous of Barbara Bonney, Elly Ameling, Kathleen Battle, Leontyne Price, Jessye Norman, Renee Fleming and other singers who actually know how to sing classical music. I have no problem with Kelly personally, but I do have problems with the organizers who didn't choose a classical singer to sing a classical song.

I've listened to this many times in the past couple years. Her voice is so beautiful here. I'm not the biggest fan of some of her music, itself, but that voice! It's just exceptional, even without taking into consideration the little time she had to prepare, her unfamiliarity with the language, and the sheer pressure of the situation. I'm glad I got to see this.

I did some counselling work at a Catholic seminary back in the 1990s- I wasn’t very experienced but I don’t think they cared that much.
I often smuggled in porn mags (some gay, some straight) and condoms for the students until the Head found out & fired me for ‘incompetence’. However, they had to pay for my silence with 2 years’ salary and a fantastic reference as they didn’t want the bad PR to get out.

Just search on Barbara Bonney Ave Maria, you'll find it. if you want other songs, Schubert wrote some 700 songs, many of them are very beautiful. Among my favorites are "Auf dem wasser zu singen", "Standchen", "Die Forelle", "Gretchen am Spinnrade". There are others as well.

Kelly is a great pop singer, but much like opera singers aren't good at singing pop, pop singers aren't good at singing classical music.

She is putting herself out there by doing that. She may not have sang the song perfectly, or as well as Barbara Bonney, but that girl has guts and for a pop princess, I think she did pretty darn good.
